RECIPES GREEN BEANS WITH CHERRY TOMATOES

INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces 1 1/2 cups water 1/4 cup butter 1 tablespoon sugar 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh basil 2 cups cherry tomato halves DIRECTIONS: Place beans and water in a large saucepan. Cover, and bring to a boil. Set heat to low, and simmer until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain off water and set aside. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in sugar, garlic salt, pepper and basil. Add tomatoes and cook stirring gently just until soft. EASY LEMON BERRY TIRAMISU

INGREDIENTS: 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup water 2 to 3 teaspoons grated lemon peel (1 medium) 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 2 containers (8 oz each) mascarpone cheese, room temperature 1 cup whipping cream 3 tablespoons powdered sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 1/2 packages (7.1 oz each) ladyfingers 3 cups mixed fresh berries, rinsed DIRECTIONS: In 2-quart saucepan, heat, granulated sugar, water, lemon peel and lemon juice to boiling. Boil until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; cool lemon syrup completely. In large bowl, beat mascarpone, cream, powdered sugar and vanilla with electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Line bottom of ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish with half of the ladyfingers. Generously brush about one-fourth of lemon syrup over ladyfingers. Spread half of mascarpone mixture evenly over ladyfinger layer. Top with half of the berries; brush with lemon syrup. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight before serving. Cut into 4 rows by 2 rows. www.bettycrocker.com

• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent.
