WESTGATE’S PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION AND BBQ

We figure a lot of people will be out of town for the 4th this year, with it being on a Saturday, so the celebration will be the Saturday BEFORE July 4th: Saturday, June 27th, starting at 10 AM. Be sure to keep up to date by joining the Westgate Subdivision Facebook group and/ or keeping an eye on our website, www.westgatetx.net. We’re planning a carnival and BBQ, we’ll have food and drinks to enjoy while the kids enjoy the rides and games. Also, resident Josh Averitt has begun to organize a BBQ Contest, so get your BBQ fired up and let us know you’d like to be a contestant! Email social@ Westgatetx.net. We’ll have prizes too. We’ll have fun rides, like the trackless train and we’re looking at getting games, like a dunking booth! We’ll also have bounce houses and games for the kids. We always look forward to the men and women of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department, Station 8 to join us as well. We’d like to have a small parade with costume contests, but we need volunteers to come forward in advance so that we can guarantee the safety of the kids; contact social@westgatetx. net to help or to contribute ideas for this and other events. If we don’t have enough volunteers to guarantee safety, we won’t be able to have the parade! And the more volunteers we have, the better the event. Be sure to keep up to date on any changes or additional information by joining the Westgate Subdivision Facebook group and/or keeping an eye on our website, www.westgatetx.net. Don’t miss out!

HOW TO GET POOL TAGS

If you were unable to attend the pool tag registrations, tags will be distributed with a fee through PCMI. Call 281-870-0585. Your assessments must be paid in full in order to receive your pool tags and pool tags will be distributed only to ADULTS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Property ID must be presented to pick up your pool tags. Two tags will be given out per family with a resident and two guests allowed per tag; that’s three people total per tag. UPCOMING SWIM SEASON AND A JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR WESTGATE TEENS

Many in our community have a need to store lawn equipment, pool supplies, outdoor games for the kids and many other things. It makes sense to have a place to put that stuff in a storage shed or outbuilding placed in the backyard. Before you make such plans, you can make it a great experience by following four simple, but necessary requirements and one suggestion that the Board would like to pass on to you. Adhering to these could save you a lot of time and money in the end. For more details regarding your building, please refer to the Building Guidelines p. 18 for a more in-depth description. We would be happy to fax or email you a copy on request. Requirements: 1. Before you build, you must provide the Board with a plan to approve the outbuilding or shed that you intend to place in your yard. The Board will examine the plan and approve it or make suggestions that will help you put up a building that is in compliance. Many have not done this and the result is the removal of the building because the Board did not approve the plan.

you’d ever like details of how your dues are spent, you can always ask our management company. Also, go to our annual meeting and you will receive a copy of the budget and actual expense list as well as a list of assets.

3. The structure must have a peaked roof with a minimum 4/12 pitched roof not to exceed the pitch of the roof of the house. (Flat roofs would not be in compliance.)

PROCEDURE WHEN FILING A REPORT WITH THE SHERIFF’S DEPT.

4. The location of the building must be in the rear of the home, screened from public view to the maximum extent possible and be built. Suggestion: Before you construct a storage building in your yard, think of your neighbor who will have to look at it. Ask yourself this question, “Would I have a problem seeing the same shed in my neighbor’s yard?” If the answer is “Yes,” you might consider adjusting your plans so it won’t be a pain for your neighbor. We think this is as important as the requirements. When we are thinking of our neighbor, whether it is parking across the sidewalk, failing to mow our lawns or building a storage shed we can be more inclined to do what is right and build our community in positive ways. COPIES OF ALL WESTGATE FOUNDING DOCUMENTS (including the ARC form) can be downloaded from the Westgate website www. westgatetx.net. They are located under the HOA tab.

DIFFICULTY PAYING YOUR ANNUAL DUES?

If you haven’t yet paid your Westgate fees for 2015 and anticipate not being able to pay on time, be sure to call PCMI (281-870-0585), our new management company, to discuss getting on a payment plan before more fees are tacked on from the attorney, etc. $550 can turn into $1,000 very quickly. Even if you don’t think you can pay all at once, you need to call PCMI to make payment arrangements; DON’T WAIT and cost yourself MORE money. These dues help pay for landscaping, electricity, water, refurbishing and adding amenities and pool management, among other things. It helps Westgate continue to be a great community with stable or increasing property values. If

If you ever have to file a report with the Sheriff’s Department, whether after calling 911 or the nonemergency number (713-221-6000), be sure to let the deputy know that Westgate has a contract with the Sheriff’s Dept. through our MUD district (Harris County MUD #70). That way, the incident will be reported to our contract deputies, giving them information on what to look for in our community. Also, be sure to report the issue to our Crime Watch committee at crimewatch@ westgatetx.net. They discuss the problems with our deputies as well.

RECOMMENDED TRADESPEOPLE LIST ON THE WESTGATE FACEBOOK PAGE

Have you ever needed to call someone for repairs or to have work done, but you didn’t want to just pick someone out of the yellow pages? Well, we’ve begun a document that is our neighborhood’s personal “Angie’s List:” “Recommended Tradespeople And Businesses.” All people and businesses listed on it are recommended by people in Westgate who have had personal experiences with them. We also have a list for businesses actually owned by Westgate residents called “Westgate Residents who provide Services.” If you are a resident who owns a business, provide a description of your services, price range, history of your business, etc. Support your neighbors by checking it out; you might find what you need very close to home! To access the documents, go to www.facebook.com and search for “Westgate Subdivision.” Look at the top of the page under “Files” and you’ll see them there! Add yours to the list!

June 4th - Last Day of School

Fireworks light up the sky over the Berry Center Stadium scoreboard for the culminating event of the 75th Anniversary school year, the 75th Anniversary Festival.

75TH FESTIVAL CLOSES OUT ANNIVERSARY SCHOOL YEAR IN CELEBRATORY STYLE

Hollie Davies, regional director of Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10)’s office, presents Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent, with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to commemorate Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s 75th Anniversary school year.

6

Thousands of community members helped bring Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s 75th Anniversary school year celebration to a close at the 75th Anniversary Festival at the Berry Center on April 25th. Sponsored by Northwest Dodge and Bridgeland, the year-end celebration capped a school year that has paid tribute to 75 years of excellence dating back to the union of the Cypress and Fairbanks school systems in 1939. The free event kicked off in the front parking lot of the Berry Center with carnival amusements, games, bounce houses, a climbing wall, a juggler, unicyclist, stilt walker and a horse-and-buggy ride. More than 60 vendor booths lined the center of the carnival. Local country-western band Sawdust Road provided musical entertainment and guests dined from various food trucks. A stilt walker greets a child in the carnival section of the 75th Anniversary Festival celebration. The evening concluded inside Berry Center Stadium, where spectators were treated to performances by Martial Arts USA, the Cypress Lakes and Cypress Ranch high school drill teams and the Cy-Fair High School marching band. Student representatives from each district campus paraded into the stadium while holding a banner bearing their school’s name, then performed “We’ve Schools Everywhere,” a spin-off of the song “I’ve Been Everywhere” that listed each district school and support facility. After briefly addressing the crowd, Dr. Henry cued a seven-minute fireworks display, which lit up the sky over the Berry Center scoreboard.

EAGLE PROJECT FOR MIGUEL CASANOVA

On March 28, 2015, Eagle scout candidate Miguel Casanova carried out his Eagle project with the assistance of 26 scouts and adults from Boy Scout Troop 1296. A long paved walkway was constructued at

Mcfee Elementary, running from the school portable buildings to the nearby street. The walkway will help improve the pathway from the local neighborhood to Mcfee Elementary school for both students and the public. Miguel and Troop 1296 built the pathway with weed block, pavers and sand, where there was previously a grassy area with poor drainage which was becoming muddy due to a combination of foot traffic and recent rain. The resulting pathway is the result of many scouts participating (almost 200 hours combined) in the hard digging in preparation for laying the final pavers and sand. Congratulations on a job well done!

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards.

Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.

Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. The Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) announces its 10th mainstage season, which explores life, love and laughter through timeless musicals, zany comedies, a classic murder mystery and a Shakespearean comedy. • Shakespeare - comes to life, June 12th - July 5th with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The canon’s most enchanted comedy pursues love with calculated abandon! This story of mortal and immortal paramours set in a mythical forest is one that will cast a spell on lovers of all ages. • 1776 - Closing this exciting season, July 24th - August 16th, is the American musical, 1776. With revolutionary immediacy, our lofty founding fathers are found to be genuine people who debate, bargain and fray one another’s nerves as they struggle on the tortuous road to independence. This musical witness to the creation of one of the most eloquent documents in history will stir the soul of every American.

All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

PATRIOTIC WORSHIP & FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATION

On Sunday, June 28th, Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be hosting a special “Patriotic Worship Event.” In celebration of our nation’s birthday on July 4th, Steve Hoyle, the Cornerstone Music Director, has put together a festive musical extravaganza entitled, “Let Freedom Ring.” The program will include patriot songs and readings, a time of prayer for our nation, a salute to our Armed Forces and a “message in song” focusing on “Old-time Southern Gospel” music. On this Sunday only, rather than the usual three services at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:45 AM (there will also be Christian Education at 9:30 AM), Cornerstone will have just one “churchwide” service at 10:45 AM. The “Patriotic Celebration” will be presented at this churchwide 10:45 AM service. An orchestra will accompany the Cornerstone chancel choir. After the service, there will be a hot dog luncheon and a time of games and fellowship. Don’t miss this wonderful event. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring everyone you can and come celebrated with us the birthday of our nation on Sunday, June 28th.

will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.
