These events include, “Egg”stravaganza, Cookies with Santa and more! LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE The primary role is to support a social club for landscaping ideas, also known as the Garden Club. They are responsible for inviting horticulture guest speakers for community events and sharing a general interest in landscaping. They also assist with the Holiday Decoration Yard Contest.

RULES OF THE ROAD FOR WESTHEIMER LAKES AND WESTHEIMER LAKES NORTH This is a reminder…. The operation of motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt bikes, golf carts, etc.) other than mowing equipment on pathways or trails maintained by the Association or any other Common Area within the community is not allowed. According to the Texas department of public safety: • ATV’s are not allowed on a street and an operator crossing a street must have a valid driver’s license. • Golf carts are allowed on roads, but must obey all traffic laws including speed limits. If operated on a road the golf cart must have a license plate and the driver must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. • Mopeds and motor assisted scooters are treated as regular bicycles. All vehicles used on roads must obey traffic laws

Take responsibility for yourself and be a good neighbor! Keep our streets and neighborhood trash and litter free! Make it a habit, be a good neighbor and do your part! If each person did their own part (around the outside of their home including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood makes people feel good about themselves. They will keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It takes time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood clean is a habit that takes conscious effort.

Basketball is a fun sport that many like to play. As a reminder, please make sure that all basketball goals are kept in an upright position in your driveway. Basketball goals should not be left in the street at anytime or left on the side of your home when not in use. Leaving Basketball goals in the street can be a nuisance to drivers in the community and a hazard should there be a need for an emergency vehicle to gain access to your street. The Canyon Springs and Canyon Falls Gates EZ Tag Entry lanes are for registered resident entry only via electronic EZ Tags (Harris County EZ TAG or Community fast pass tags for community use only). Electronic entry tags, including credit card size Access Cards and telephone home number registration services are available to all Canyon Springs and Canyon Falls residents at the SplashPad office Tuesday through Saturday. Call 832-222-2355 for more details. The entry will remain open during the day while sales and construction of new homes are in operation and gates will close at night. The Lamar CISD school received a check for $5,000 to the Robotics Club, an investment in the future of our students. Fostering support for our community’s children through local programs and activities is the goal of the Adopt-A-School Fund. The Fund is established through contributions from homeowners, the developer and builders in the Westheimer Lakes Community at the time of closing and continues to be fed through subsequent home sales and purchases in the community. KATY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WWW.KATYISD.ORG KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES 2016-2017 ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY MODIFICATION The Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve an attendance boundary modification (ABM) designed to address the opening of three new campuses and alleviate overcrowding at campuses landlocked with 125 percent capacity. This ABM will provide much-needed relief to Rylander and West Memorial elementary schools, as well as, balance enrollment as the District prepares to open two elementary schools and one junior high next school year. During this entire process, the District welcomed feedback from the community through an online survey. Nearly 9,000 parents, staff and community members completed the survey and dozens shared their feedback during the open forum at various Board meetings. These comments helped shape the ABM and addressed major needs and concerns cited by parents and community. The District presented to the Board a preliminary ABM proposal on November 16th and then an updated option on December 7th to better address the overcrowding at West Memorial Elementary. The Board approved the updated ABM option on December 14th. The District estimates that approximately 3,600 students will be impacted by the approved attendance boundary modifications. Katy ISD will be notifying all impacted families in January/February 2016. COMMUNITY INVITED TO SUPPORT TEACHER GRANTS The Katy ISD Education Foundation is inviting parents, businesses and community members to contribute to its teacher grant initiative by becoming a Foundation Investor or making a one-time donation. The Foundation’s annual Inspiring Imagination teacher grant program awards funds to teachers to implement classroom projects that engage and excite Katy ISD students. Formed in 2013 to support creative classroom programs in Katy ISD schools, the Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to teachers throughout the district, enriching the learning experience for more than 65,000 Katy ISD students. Each spring, teachers are invited to apply for a grant through a competitive, three-step evaluation process. Submissions are judged by community volunteers. This year’s grant application process launched in November with teacher grant applications due March 30, 2016. Grants will be awarded in May 2016 for the 2016-2017 school year. Foundation Investors pledge annual gifts that range from $1,000 to $50,000 per year. One-time contributions of any amount are also welcome. 281-788-2047 KATY HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH SELECTED FOR TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME Katy High School’s Head Football Coach Gary Joseph, was recently selected as a 2016 inductee into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. Coach Joseph, along with eight other inductees, were announced on Saturday, December 19th at NRG Stadium. Coach Joseph began his coaching career at Luling High School 37 years ago. After advancing in jobs at Brazosport and Austin Westlake, he then moved to Katy High School, where he has served for 33 years. He was the KHS defensive coordinator and then assistant head coach for 22 years before becoming the KHS head coach in 2004. During his tenure as head coach, he has led the Katy Tigers to eight state final games with three of those appearances resulting in 6A State Championships. His current coaching record stands at 167-14. While individual and team accolades are greatly appreciated and honored, Coach Joseph also strives to build a strong group of student athletes who recognize, through the actions of their head coach, the necessity for integrity, loyalty and the value of leading oneself and others through life’s victories with humility and hardships with grace. The induction banquet will be held on May 7, 2016 in Waco, Texas.

FBA STUDENT MAKES FIRST CHAIR TROMBONE AT ALL-STATE First Baptist Academy’s Kevin Beck-Perez was selected as the first chair trombone student at this year’s 2015 All-State middle school band competition hosted by the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB). Auditions were held on November 7, 2015 at Sealy High School. Students selected to be in the honor band attended an all-day clinic followed by a concert the following Saturday in Bellville, Texas. Seventh grader Beck-Perez, as well as alto saxophone players Matthew Bradberry, 8th grade and Pierce Donalson, 7th grade, chose to participate in the audition which required hours of practice despite their rigorous class and homework schedules in the two weeks prior to the audition. The competition began with blind auditions. Students individually played prepared music that consisted of several scales and excerpts from two music selections for three to four judges in a closed room. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography.
