HOLIDAY SHOPPING AND CRIME PREVENTION SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON: With the holidays approaching quickly here are some friendly reminders. • If possible, arrange for a companion preferably an adult to go with you. Please remember there is safety in numbers. • Stay alert and be aware of what’s going on around you. • Do not leave you purse, wallet or cellular telephone in plain view. • When parking your vehicle to go shopping, remember where you parked it!! • Always park in a well-lit area. Do not park in a remote dark area. • Lock your vehicle and put up your windows even while you are driving. • Do not buy more than you can carry. Ask for assistance, if needed, to help you carry your purchases out to our car. • If you feel unsafe, always ask the store security to assist you to your car. • Have your keys in your hand when approaching your vehicle. Check to see if you are being followed. • When you return to your vehicle, scan the interior of your car to be sure no one is hiding inside and around your vehicle before getting in. • When storing items purchased at the stores, place them out of sight. The best place is a locked trunk. Or if possible, take them home. • Frequently check your rear view mirror to see if you are being

followed. If you feel like you are being followed, DO NOT go home. Drive to the nearest police station, fire station or other place of safety. HARRIS COUNTY CURFEW TO BE STRICTLY ENFORECED The Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be strictly enforcing curfew, zero tolerance. Most parents are unaware that Harris County has a curfew. Children under the age of 17 must be in at midnight (12 AM). Parent’s need to make sure that their children are at home the entire night. If children are caught wandering around at late hours after midnight, the Harris County Sheriff’s will give them a citation. This is a class C misdemeanor; both the child and the parent must appear in front of court and pay a fine. Usually it will take all day to take care of this and the fine may exceed $150. COMMUNITY CENTER/CLUBHOUSE, PAVILION They are available for usage by our resident’s and their guests. A $50 deposit for each one is required and refundable upon passing the exit inspection; contact Anita Ratliff at 832-814-7634, she is the only Board of Director authorized to take the deposit.
OUR COMMUNITY SECURITY SUPPLEMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
Westlake Place HOA-Board of Directors have hired off-duty deputies employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, for our community. Having security does not mean you should not secure your own property or not be responsible for your own security. Take time to make sure your vehicles are locked, parked in the garage if you can. That is the safest place for your vehicle. Get to know your neighbors. Call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office if you see any suspicious vehicles/persons in the neighborhood. PATROL SERVICE REPORT The Association receives many reports of speeding drivers and drivers running stop signs in the community. Monitoring of stop signs has resulted in some citations issued and other citations for different traffic violations. For the safety of the community and residents walking, children playing, please follow the speed limit and make a full stop at each stop sign to ensure everyone’s safety. The deputies has been notified of the complaints/concerns voiced by the residents and will continue to monitor this activity with zero tolerance. So remember to abide by all traffic laws while driving through the subdivision. CRIME IN THE SUBDIVISION Here are the reports given: • There was only one report of a breaking and entering. When leaving your home make sure to lock all doors, secure the windows and lock the garage doors. Also, when leaving at night one deterrent is a welllit area, so keep the lights on outside your home. Always make sure to secure your belongings and lock your vehicle and if at all possible park your vehicle in the garage. The Board’s number one priority is trying to keep the entire subdivision safer and informed. REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES AND CRIMES When you see suspicious activity and would like to file a report etc, call the non-emergency number. When a crime is in progress and or a human life is at risk call the 9-1-1. If at anytime someone observes a suspicious person or vehicle they should not hesitate reporting it to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. There are three ways to do this. Do not leave your trashcans out for an extended period of time. Remove your cans from the street as soon as possible. The stickers and the trashcans might be stolen.

POSTING OF GARAGE SALE SIGNS
The correct way in our subdivision is using a staked sign place your address, time and date and remove later on that day or as soon as the event is over. This is the only acceptable way to post such signs. If posting a sign on a resident’s property, please ask for prior permission as a courtesy. If a resident places a garage sale sign in median of the front or back entrance and if this results in any type of damage to the sprinkler system, you will be charged for any needed repairs. We are requesting that all residents limit your garage sales to no more than once a quarter - meaning four times a year only.
VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a treat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbored or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow them to become a stray.” Restraints are defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of

controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

GARDENING TIPS FOR DECEMBER
EGGNOG EXTREME
INGREDIENTS: 12 egg yolks 2 cups white sugar 1 (750 milliliter) bottle white rum 1 quart half-and-half cream 1 quart heavy cream 12 egg whites 1 cup white sugar 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• If a long flowering period is desired, pansies should be placed in their permanent beds not later than this month. Fertilize monthly with manure, super-phosphate or a liquid high-phosphate product. Keep flowers picked for more bloom.
DIRECTIONS: In a large bowl, combine egg yolks, 2 cups sugar and rum. Mix well, cover and refrigerate for 24 hours.
• Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month.
Stir half-and-half into cooled yolk mixture. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form; set aside.
• Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-1313; Louisiana iris with cotton seed meal and manure. • Azaleas and camellias may be moved now. Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again.
In a separate clean bowl, with a clean whisk, whip egg whites until thick, then gradually add sugar and whip until peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the egg whites, then fold into the yolks mixture. Sprinkle top with nutmeg. Source: http://allrecipes.com/ Submitted by: HENRYVG

MAYDE CREEK GIRLS VARSITY AND JV CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS BRING HOME GOLD!
The Mayde Creek Girls competed at the Caldwell Cross-Country Invitational at Davidson Creek Park. The Varsity Girls and JV Girls both won their divisions, bringing home two Team Championship Plaques and 12 medals! The girls competed hard and had a great showing against 12 schools in the Austin and Bryan/College Station area. We were very fortunate the rain and storms cleared out so we would be able to race. The Varsity team and JV team both raced a 2-mile loop over some very muddy terrain. The Varsity squad was led by Senior Shenaya Thomas, who placed 3rd, earning her a bronze medal. She recorded a time of 12:57 over the 2-mile course. Junior Olivia Johnston was the second Ram to finish, running a time of 12:59 and placing 4th. Senior Lesly Garza was the next Ram to cross the finish line with a time of 13:11, placing her 8th. Earning the final medal for the Lady Ram Cross Country Team was Senior Emily Lee, who placed 11th with a time of 13:30. Finishing behind her in 16th place, barely missing a medal, was Sophomore Ysatis Gonzalez. She recorded a 2-mile time of 13:41. The final Rams to finish, in a neck and neck battle, were Sophomore Valerie Durgin and Senior Ruby Uribe. They had times of 13:59.2 and 13:59.4 and placed 17th and 18th, respectively. The Varsity girls had a team total of 42 points earning them 1st place! Freshman Lexi Torbit led her team to the championship title by finishing the JV race in 1st place, earning her a gold medal. She had an awesome performance over the hilly and muddy course, running a time of 13:56. Close behind her in 2nd place was Freshman Andrea Vo. She recorded a time of 14:00, good for a silver medal. Also medaling was Senior Angy Rojas, who placed 4th with a time of 14:12. Rounding out the top 5 for the Lady Rams in a tight finish for 6th and 7th place was Sophomore Marissa McKay and Freshman Shelby Sears. They recorded times of 14:46 and 14:47, respectively. Also finishing in a close race was Senior Tatiana Sanchez and foreign exchange student, Junior Alicia Van Bodungen Thelin, running in her first cross-country race ever. They had finishing times of 15:25.3 and 15:25.7, placing them 12th and 13th. Junior Jayla Blanke earned the final medal, placing 15th with a time of 15:30. Sophomore Emily Cruz barely missed a medal, coming in 16th place and recording a time of 15:35. Freshman Mairany Barbosa placed 19th with a time of 15:52. Freshman Leslie Garza was the next Ram to finish in 27th place, running a time of 17:03. Sophomores Frances Martinez, Daisy Guerrero and Rossy Reyna finished next in 31st, 32nd and 33rd place, with finishing times of 18:03, 18:39 and 18:46. The final Ram to finish was Junior Chloe Oyerly, who placed 35th with a time of 20:46. The JV team had a total of 20 points, giving them the 1st place team title! All of the Mayde Creek Cross-Country girls competed extremely hard and showed much confidence and improvement. There were many personal records! We are very proud of the way they competed, as well as their desire to win! It is an awesome feeling bringing back 2 team championship plaques! The girls were back in action Saturday, September 28th, when we traveled to Cy-Woods High School for the CyWoods Invitational. We would like to thank everyone for your continued support!
