FROM THE WLP BOARD

NEW MESSAGE CENTER Also, a friendly reminder that the agenda/meeting notice will be posted on the new message center board located at the community center. POOL NEWS Thank you all for a wonderful pool season to our members, Board of Directors and Aquatic Pool Management. Aside from a few weather closures and some staffing issues, things ran very smoothly. We hope you all enjoyed your summer at the pool. Please, remember to put those pool ID cards in a safe place, as renewal for next year will be less expensive than having to do a new card. SCHOOL IS IN School is in full swing and we are hoping that youngsters and parents are back on a comfortable schedule. Again, parents, please make your children aware of safety issues and to be careful when walking through the neighborhood. Watch for

traffic, cross the streets safely, don’t play near the streets. Drivers, please drive slowly and watch for children. With so many vehicles that are parked on the streets, children may dart out from behind these parked vehicles, PLEASE BE ALERT. A reminder to parents, please do NOT park at the Fry Road and/or Greenhouse entrances for drop off/pick up of children. This causes congestion at the entrances and a safety issue for drivers and pedestrians alike. From time to time, we may have the patrol officers monitoring traffic to ensure that drivers are obeying the traffic laws. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT Please come out and meet your neighbors, Board of Directors and law enforcement representatives on Tuesday evening, October 6th to recognize National Night Out in Texas. As we have done in past years, there will be food, music, fun activities and important information and tips on how to keep your property, yourself and your community safe. More information will be forthcoming next month. Also visit the website and check the community message board at the front entrance to the pool.

GHOULS, GOBLINS AND GHOSTS Watch out for the GGG’s that will be wandering through the neighborhood come Halloween Night! Surely there will be some Disney Princesses, pirates, super heroes and other costumed youngsters strolling through the streets as well. Parents, children and drivers, please be alert and extra cautious during this fun evening. COMMUNITY CENTER/CLUBHOUSE, PAVILION, POOL The community center, clubhouse and pavilion are available for parties and special events for all residents. We encourage residents to use the amenities for their functions throughout the year. They are available for usage only by our resident’s and their guests. A $50 deposit for each one is required and refundable upon passing the exit inspection; contact Caroline Aragon at 281 974-0056, to set up scheduling and deposit. Caroline is the only one authorized to take the deposit. TEXAS PARKING LAWS The Board was notified about a couple of vehicles that were parked on the street without a valid inspection sticker or current registration. So, just as a friendly reminder here are some of the parking laws. • Park no closer than 30 feet from a stop sign. • Park no closer than 20 feet from a cross walk • Park no closer than 15 feet from a fire hydrant • Park no farther from the curb than 18 inches • Park with the flow of traffic • Vehicles parked on the street must have a valid, current registration and inspection sticker and be in operable condition • Parking for more than 48 hours on the street is a violation and will result in towing • Do not obstruct the driveway of others with your vehicle • Double parking will result in a immediate citation and possible towing Do not forget the streets must be open and clear for any type of emergencies or emergency vehicle to be able to pass. Try to keep your area open so those needing to use the streets will have a clear passage. A friendly reminder the street is not a safe place where children should be playing. Our subdivision has had too much traffic and people using this as a short cut to get to where they are traveling to. Most travelers neglect to notice children, drive slow be cautious. HARRIS COUNTY CURFEW TO BE STRICTLY ENFORCED The Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be strictly enforcing curfew, zero tolerance. Most parents are unaware that Harris County

has a curfew. Children under the age of 17 must be in at midnight (12 AM). Parent’s need to make sure that their children are at home the entire night. If children are caught wandering around at late hours after midnight, the Harris County Sheriff’s will give them a citation. This is a class C misdemeanor; both the child and the parent must appear in front of court and pay a fine. Usually it will take all day to take care of this and the fine may exceed $150.

OUR COMMUNITY SECURITY SUPPLEMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT

Westlake Place HOA-Board of Directors have hired off-duty deputies employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for our community. A friendly reminder from Westlake Place HOA-Board of Directors, having security does not mean you should not secure your own property or not be responsible for your own security. Take time to make sure your vehicles are locked, parked in the garage if you can. That is the safest place for your vehicle. When leaving your home make sure to lock all doors, secure the windows and lock the garage doors. Also, when leaving at night one deterrent is a well-lit area, so keep the lights on outside your home. Get to know your neighbors and be vigilant of your surroundings. The Board’s number one priority is trying to keep the entire subdivision safer and informed.

REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES AND CRIMES

There are four ways to report crime tips: • Online at iWatchHarrisCounty.com • Text a tip to 1-855-HCSO-iWatch (1-855-427-6492) • Use the downloadable app found on iWatchHarrisCounty.com • Call 1-855-HCSO-iWatch (1-855-427-6492) iWatchHarrisCounty is for submitting crime tips only, not emergencies. Emergency calls should be made to 9-1-1.

ARCHITECTURAL FORM/ HOME IMPROVEMENT FORM

All residents must complete a home improvement form for all improvements, including but not limited to: repainting (even the same color), re-roofing, new siding, sheds or outbuildings, new garage doors and basketball goals. The ACC approval must be given in advance prior to the work being started. We have specific guidelines for sheds and outbuildings. Call ACMP 281-855-9867 to request a form. Please mail to the ACMP address at the top of the form.

TRASH CANS SHOULD BE USED FOR TRASH PICK UP, TRASH PICK-UP STICKERS BELONG ON TRASH CANS

When you see suspicious activity and would like to file a report etc, call the non-emergency. When a crime is in progress and or a human life is at risk call 9-1-1. If at any time someone observes a suspicious person or vehicle in the subdivision they should not hesitate in reporting it to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The first thing a resident should do is contacting the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to file report. There are three ways to do this. If your incident is an emergency, call 9-1-1, if non-emergency call 713-221-6000 or use the Harris County Sheriff’s online reporting system: www.hcso. hctx.net/LeadinHtml_TxHarrisCountySo/start-report.html

The trash pickup sticker you receive each quarter shows you have paid your invoice and are a valid customer. It contains your address and the expiration date. The sticker is designed to be placed on the trashcan please do not place these stickers on your mailbox. These stickers occasionally won’t stick even to a garbage can; use a heavyduty tape when this occurs. Trash will not be picked up if the sticker is not on the trashcan and they will not pick up the trash at your residence if you have not paid. Do not place these stickers on your mailbox. Do not leave your trashcans out for an extended period of time. Remove your cans from the street as soon as possible. The stickers and the trashcans might be stolen.

Some resident may feel a sighting such as this may be “nothing:” yet it is better to be safe than sorry. Again, let’s be the eyes and ears for the law enforcement. On-going activity can be reported to Gail Mayfield our Security Supplement Liaison at 281-467-0548.

Some of our residents are unclear on the concept of putting trashcans at the curb for collection days (Tuesday and Friday). Trash can be put out after 5 PM the night prior to the scheduled collection day.

POSTING OF GARAGE SALE SIGNS

Please be aware that taping a sign of any kind to a stop sign or a road sign IS AGAINST THE LAW and could result in our deputies issuing you a citation. The correct way in our subdivision is using a staked sign place your address, time and date and remove later on that day or as soon as the event is over. This is the only acceptable way to post such signs. If posting a sign on a resident’s property, please ask for prior permission as a courtesy. If a resident places a garage sale sign in median of the front or back entrance and if this results in any type of damage to the sprinkler system, you will be charged for any needed repairs. We are requesting that all residents limit your garage sales to no more than once a quarter - meaning four times a year only.

STREETLIGHT OUTAGES

Please report a burned out street light, any resident may call Center Point directly at 713–207-2222. However, for those with internet access, you may also make this report on-line. GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER

• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in the chicken and simmer 1 hour more. We will have a live auction on beautiful theme baskets and a silent auction on items donated by area merchants. Our Bake Sale is always a big success thanks to the wonderful baking done by our members. Kathy Coleman, who recently moved to Katy from Kansas City, will be our guest speaker. Kathy, an author, artist and former flight attendant, will be talking to us about how she landed on her feet after “Flying High.” The luncheon is $18 per person. All proceeds from this luncheon will go to Stonecroft Ministries to help support the work they do in the US and around the world. For more information or if you would like to be a vendor, please email Nancy at Katycwc@gmail.com or call 281-232-8338.
