Get Into the Christmas Spirit
Hanukkah
Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace, love and goodwill to all. But with all the stress and commotion of the season, many of us end up feeling more like Mr. Scrooge than Santa Claus.
In Judaism, the Festival of Lights, the Feast of Consecration or the Feast of the Maccabees; also transliterated Chanukah. According to tradition, it was instituted by Judas Maccabeus and his brothers in 165 B.C. to celebrate the dedication of the new altar in the Temple at Jerusalem. The festival occurs in December near the time of the winter solstice, as does Christmas and lasts eight days. Hanukkah later came to be linked also with a miraculous cruse of oil that burned for eight days, leading to the practice of lighting special Hanukkah candles, one the first evening, two the second and so on. The eight-branched candle stand (menorah) used in that ceremony is a frequent symbol for the holiday.
• Shop early. Nothing takes away the Christmas spirit like fighting for parking and struggling through crowds. • Wish people that you meet in stores and other casual environments a happy holiday. Say it with a smile. • Drop spare coins in the Salvation Army collection buckets. • Do something nice for someone. Offer to baby-sit so a friend can do her Christmas shopping, take cookies to your neighbors or rake an elderly neighbor’s yard. • Volunteer your time to a worthy holiday cause. Even if you are busy, you can spare an hour or two to help people less fortunate than yourself. • Organize a drive at work or in your neighborhood. Collect food and personal items and donate them to a local shelter for the homeless or for battered women. • Play Christmas music. • Watch Christmas movies. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a good one for reviving a flagging Christmas spirit, as is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” • Read “A Christmas Carol” and “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.” • Decorate your house for the holidays. • Don’t spend more money than you have. Anxiety over after-Christmas bills can ruin your holiday. ehow.com
HAPPY Kwanzaa Kwanzaa is an African-American holiday created in 1966. It begins on December 26th and lasts through January 1st. The name Kwanzaa comes from the language of Swahili and means first fruits of the harvest. To prepare for the holiday, families decorate their homes with Kwanzaa symbols. A candle is lit for each day of Kwanzaa. A black candle is lit first, then red and green candles are lit alternately. There are seven principles of Kwanzaa, one for each day. They are Umoja or Unity, Kujichagulia or Self-Determination, Ujima or Collective Work and Responsibility, Ujamma or Cooperative Economics, Nia or Purpose, Kuumba or Creativity and Imani or Faith.

Happy Holidays
Give with a cheerful heart. Give within your means. An expensive gift doesn’t mean it’s the best. Giving comes from your heart, not from the wallet. Some gifts are priceless... love, time, effort, encouragement, prayer, etc. Observe the needs and wants of the person you’re giving to. Consider his/her hobbies, lifestyle and what he/she wears. • Be creative, imaginative and crazy. • Shop for gifts early to avoid last-minute frantic rush.

Westminster Village Board Meetings are the 3 rd Tuesday of each month at the M.U.D. building in Westminster Landing starting at 7 PM. ATTENTION DOG OWNERS
ACMP has received complaints concerning people walking their dogs in the park and letting them do their “business.” By law you are supposed to clean up after your pet. Pet owners should have respect for our park and the others who wish to use this park. This is not a dog park, this area is for residents to enjoy. Please keep your dogs out of the park.WESTMINSTER VILLAGE HOA
ACC requests
Friends, we respectfully request that you submit an ACC request to the Westminster Village HOA, Inc, for changes to your yard or home. Things like sheds and back yard patios, visible from the street, require prior approval from the ACC committee. Changes to your yard, including even minor landscaping, rocks and bushe,s require approval from the Home Owner Association. The rule of thumb is you can’t make any changes to your yard or home that are visible from the street without prior approval. Please help keep expenses down by first getting permission to make changes instead of the HOA having to mail you a deed restriction letter.

The annual Langham Creek Cheerleader Cheer Clinic held on October 27th was a huge success! Approximately 100 participants came to enjoy learning about the cheerleading talents our girls display everyday and to meet and get a picture with our outstanding Lobo mascot. The parents enjoyed the “show off” at the end of the clinic, as well as seeing the kids perform on the sidelines with the Lobo cheerleaders at the JV game on November 1st! Thank you to everyone who came to the clinic - it really is a fun event for all.

The Lobo cheerleaders have been vigorously supporting the mighty Lobo football team all season. Even during a lengthy rain delay during the Cy-Ridge game when they were given an option to leave, they chose to stay and help the Lobos fight on to a victory! That same enthusiastic support is being shared with the Lobo basketball teams. On November 8th, the cheerleaders kicked off their season by decorating the locker room with signs, streamers and balloons! Way to pump up our players for an exciting Lobo basketball season! Go Lobos!

CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES
The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor. This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling. Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country. The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission.

The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed Dec. 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials. Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. For more information on the 2013 event please contact Marie Holmes at marie@thecfef.org or 281-807-3591.

1) Do not leave purchased items visible in the car-leave them in the trunk. 2) While shopping in the evening hours may be less crowded, there are also additional potential risks involved. Park in areas of parking lots that have adequate lighting. Consider shopping with someone rather than going alone. 3) Make sure purses and wallets are secure on your person and youare aware of their location at all times. 4) Keep the amount of available cash you have at a minimum or separate it into different pockets or locations on or about your person. This way all of it is not lost if your purse or wallet is misplaced or stolen. 5) Credit cards offer convenience and security, however, keep track of all cards and keep receipts to compare to your monthly statement. 6) Remain aware of your surroundings at all times and move to and from your vehicle with confidence and “purpose.” Have keys ready before getting to your car so you do not have to search for them while standing near it. 7) Report suspicious people or activity to law enforcement immediately! 8) Most important is to reduce your own vulnerability and do what you can to minimize the possibility that you could be a victim of a crime or accidental loss.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

The Heart of Relay: During the Relay for Life event, three ceremonies are held Survivors Lap: To start Relay, those who have survived their battle with cancer join together to walk a lap celebrating their victories over the disease. Luminaria Ceremony: At dark, the track is lined with candle-lit bags bearing the names of those who have been touched by or have lost their lives to cancer. Fight Back Ceremony: Before participants leave Relay, they make a personal commitment to help fight back against cancer in several ways.

As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. We are very close and only need $150,000 to meet our goal and with YOUR help, we can make this goal a reality!! 100% of our profits go to ACS to use for research and other programs.
