MUD 65 HAS LOWERED OUR TAX RATE AND STARTED PAYING FOR A NIGHT SHIFT DEPUTY JUNE 1, 2015. A NOTE FROM THE BOARD

Williamsburg Parish Subdivision and the surrounding areas seem to be a target right now for break-in’s. Please make sure that all items visible in your vehicle of any kind of value be brought into the home or hidden from view. Vehicle breakin’s are becoming more and more rampant in our area right now and we now have to be very mindful to protect our property. Please make sure that your vehicle and windows are up and locked. The individuals doing these type of break-in’s are looking for UNLOCKED vehicles or items of value that are visible in the vehicles to make it worth them breaking windows, etc. The other thing would be to make sure that your garage is closed when you are not outside or working in it. Seems that the thieving is starting again, by those walking up into a garage taking items that are laying out etc. This also has happened in our neighborhood in the last few weeks.

It’s that time again to beautify our lawns. So many yards every year are absolutely breathtaking and we want to thank so many of you that put so much time and effort into your lawns. The clover seems to have snuck up on us wildly this year in so many places across the neighborhood and proper treatment at the beginning of Spring can help control this issue. *Don’t forget “YARD OF THE MONTH” coming soon and we love giving out the gift certificates and putting out the yard of the month sign to show our appreciation. DEPUTY PATROL

We want to thank our contract neighborhood Deputy - Deputy Woelk. She does a great job. She has requested to all homeowners that if you see someone or something suspicious going on in the neighborhood, to not hesitate and contact the Sheriff’s Department at 713-221-6000 for the non emergency number and if it looks like a possible crime in progress, then to contact 911. She states that our eyes as homeowners are so much help to her and the Sheriff’s Department and she expressed to us her true appreciation of all of the homeowners that watch out for themselves and their neighbors. REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

Keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. If there is something that is not right or you may have a concern, please contact the Harris Williamsburg Parish

County Sheriff’s Department at 713-221-6000. In case of an emergency, contact 911. Together we can make a difference in making our neighborhood a safe one. DEED RESTRICTIONS AND ACC GUIDELINES

As a reminder, any significant exterior modification, from painting, installation of storage buildings to replacing old fencing or shingles, requires prior approval from the homeowner’s association. Approval forms are included in our newsletter and can be found on our website. PLEASE REGISTER EMAIL ADDRESSES ON WEBSITE WWW.HIGHSIERRAMANAGEMENT.COM

FOURTH OF JULY TRIVIA • The Declaration of Independence begins with the words “When in the course of human events.” • The Constitution is the legal framework of the United States. • Francis Scott Key wrote the words of the Star Spangled Banner. • The Liberty Bell acquired a crack on its very first ring. • The first United States flag had 13 stars and 13 stripes. • In 1942 Congress recognized the Pledge of Allegiance. • The first national capitol was located in Carpenters Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • The anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is July 4, 1776. • The Liberty Bell is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • The official anniversary date of Flag Day is June 14th. • The first person to sign the Declaration of Independence was John Hancock. • Historians believe Betsy Ross sewed the first official American flag. • The oldest commissioned U.S. naval vessel is named ‘The Constitution.’ • The first 10 amendments to the Constitution are familiarly known as ‘The Bill of Rights.’ • John Hancock’s signature is largest on the Declaration of Independence. 6

July 2015

• The signing of the Declaration of Independence took until August 2, 1776. • The Statue of Liberty is 151 feet tall. GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY • Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.
