Williamsburg Parish Subdivision and the surrounding areas seem to be a target right now for break-in’s. Please make sure that all items visible in your vehicle of any kind of value be brought into the home or hidden from view. Vehicle breakin’s are becoming more and more rampant in our area right now and we now have to be very mindful to protect our property. Please make sure that your vehicle and windows are up and locked. The individuals doing these type of break-in’s are looking for UNLOCKED vehicles or items of value that are visible in the vehicles to make it worth them breaking windows, etc. The other thing would be to make sure that your garage is closed when you are not outside or working in it. Seems that the thieving is starting again, by those walking up into a garage taking items that are laying out etc. This also has happened in our neighborhood in the last few weeks.

RECIPES GREEN BEANS WITH CHERRY TOMATOES INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces 1 1/2 cups water 1/4 cup butter 1 tablespoon sugar 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh basil 2 cups cherry tomato halves
DIRECTIONS: In 2-quart saucepan, heat, granulated sugar, water, lemon peel and lemon juice to boiling. Boil until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; cool lemon syrup completely. In large bowl, beat mascarpone, cream, powdered sugar and vanilla with electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Line bottom of ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish with half of the ladyfingers. Generously brush about one-fourth of lemon syrup over ladyfingers. Spread half of mascarpone mixture evenly over ladyfinger layer. Top with half of the berries; brush with lemon syrup. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight before serving. Cut into 4 rows by 2 rows. www.bettycrocker.com

GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY • Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

ADULTS • USED BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their next book sale on Saturday, July 25th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books and paperbacks. All proceeds will benefit the library. • BOOK DISCUSSION CLUBS - The Library hosts book clubs that meet monthly. The Evening Book Club normally meets on the first Monday of the month at 7 PM. The Afternoon Book Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 1 PM. • JUST DESSERTS MYSTERY BOOK CLUB - Meetings held the third Wednesday of the month at 2 PM. You are encouraged to bring your favorite dessert to eat while we discuss whether our villains get their just desserts. • FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL - Bring the whole family out to our family film festival this summer. Harry Krueger will be here to give us an introduction to Katy MakerSpace and all you can do there. Makers of all ages and disciplines are encouraged to join us as we learn everything our new MakerSpace has to offer. • SERVICE ANIMAL HEROES - Are you interested in learning more about the choosing and training of service animals? On Monday, July 13th at 7 PM, Give Us Paws will be at the library to show us what dogs do to prepare for a life of service. We’ll even have some special 4-legged visitors to help out. • GREEN THUMB GARDENING - Master Gardeners of Harris County will be bringing their Green Thumb series to Maud Marks once a month where they will discuss various topics unique to gardening in the Houston area. This month, on July 18th at 10 AM, learn all about fall vegetable gardening. Seating is extremely limited for this class. • COMPUTER CLASSES - The library offers a variety of computer classes each month. You must know how to use a mouse and a keyboard.
