CHRISTMAS YARD OF THE MONTH DECORATING CONTEST WINNERS

Once again, our residents did a wonderful job with their Christmas lights and decorations. The choice is always very difficult as there are so many beautifully decorated homes in our subdivision. The judging was done by Board member Gail Owen, our Christmas Holiday Yard Contest Chairperson, who manages this annual event as well as the Yard-of-the-Month program. As usual, the contest resulted in the selection of a first, second and third place winner and each award recipient had the appropriate sign placed in their yard. This year the winners were: 1st: Perry & Stephanie Rainosek - 22831 Bucktrout 2nd: John & Darleen Goss - 1703 Earl of Dunmore 3rd: Mike and Terri Sharon - 22535 Unicorns Horn We hope that you and your family found time to drive around the neighborhood to see these yards, but if you didn’t, photographs of the three winners are posted on the Christmas Yard Contest page of our website www.wsmaonline.org. Our congratulations go to these winners and our thanks go to everyone who made the effort to brighten up our subdivision during this wonderful time of the year.

A NOTE OF THANKS

Let’s not let the season pass without giving a vote of thanks to the volunteers who gave their time and creative energy to decorating our entrances and the clubhouse. This year, that task was performed by Gail Owen and Floyd and Linda Ball. A great job guys! Many thanks.

JANUARY YARD-OF-THE-MONTH

The Yard-of-The-Month for January goes to Brian and Marcia Boggs of 22307 Vobe Court. Brian and Marcia have lived in The Settlement for the last 10 years. Their favorite things about our neighborhood are the unique homes, wonderful neighbors that

Starting at the street with purple pansies, dusty millers and purple iris. The front curved beds are accented by neatly trimmed Japanese bushes on each corner. Those are surrounded by blooming pink hydrangeas, with a row of miniature agapanthus and a row of white Encore azaleas. The side bed is full of large foxtail ferns. This beautiful home and yard has an inviting swing with pillows on the front porch. Thanks to both of you for contributing so much to the beauty of our neighborhood.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR NEW RESIDENTS

If you are a new resident, as soon as PCMI receives notification from the title company you should have received a visit, a telephone call or a package of information placed in your mailbox by Margaret Heichel, the resident who assists the Board by welcoming new residents to our subdivision. If you haven’t had a contact with Margaret, please feel free to call her at 713-927-2695. As well as welcoming you, the purpose of Margaret’s function is to provide you with the basic information on the services that are provided to Settlement residents and to acquaint you with the many benefits of living here. Your Board of Directors work hard to communicate with our residents to ensure that everyone is provided with timely notification of neighborhood issues and know how to get a rapid response to any questions or concerns they may have.

In addition to this newsletter, key tools in this process are on the Association website www.wsmaonline.org and the email distribution list to which all residents are encouraged to subscribe via the website’s Registration page. The website also contains a Residents’ Directory page, which allows residents to look up their neighbors either by name or the street on which they live. Inclusion in this directory is voluntary, but the more residents who allow their information to be posted the more comprehensive and hence useful the directory becomes. So if you haven’t already done so, please give serious consideration to sending us your information via the form linked in the introductory text on the Residents’ Directory page. This form should also be used for updating your information when any name or number changes occur. And lastly, your Board would like to encourage you to attend its monthly meetings. With very few exceptions, these are held at the clubhouse, 1602 Hoyt Lane and begin at 5:30 PM on the third Tuesday of each month. The annual meeting schedule is posted on the website’s Board Meetings page from where you can also read the minutes of past meetings for this and the previous year. Please come and introduce yourself. Your Board would love to meet you in person and welcome you to the Settlement!

If any resident wishes to update the information that they have previously provided for publication on the Directory page of our website, they can do so by using the RESIDENTS’ DIRECTORY ENTRY FORM. This form is accessible via the Forms, Registration or Directory pages of our website www.wsmaonline.org. The webmaster uses the information submitted to maintain the directory database. If the resident indicates on the form that he or she is agreeable to having their information accessible via the online Residents’ Directory page, the update will be made as soon as possible - usually within 24 hours. New residents to our subdivision are requested to use this same form to register their information for inclusion in the directory OR TO CONVEY THEIR DECISION THAT THEIR INFORMATION NOT BE INCLUDED. you may also make this report on-line. For those interested, you can go to http://cnp.centerpointenergy.com/outage. Then enter your contact details so that they can get back to you if more information is required. On the following page enter the details of the light(s) with the problem. Just as you would if reporting the outage via the telephone, you will need to provide the street address where the light is located and the 6-digit number that is prominently displayed on the front of the pole. Under normal circumstances the crew will be out to fix the problem within 7 working days. Anyone noticing a streetlight that is out or has some other malfunction is encouraged to report the problem to CenterPoint via either of these two methods without delay. REMINDER ABOUT HOUSE PAINTING

Residents need to be sure and pay attention to the state of the paint on their houses. Many of the houses in the settlement are of an age that they will soon need to be repainted or sided. Please be proactive in getting this done when necessary. Doing this before you have a problem will not only keep your house looking nicer, but doing it early can end up saving you money! But please remember that all such work does require Architectural Review Committee approval. This is obtained by completing a “Request For Home Improvement Approval” form and mailing it to PCMI. KATY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WWW.KATYISD.ORG KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES 2016-2017 ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY MODIFICATION

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve an attendance boundary modification (ABM) designed to address the opening of three new campuses and alleviate overcrowding at campuses landlocked with 125 percent capacity. This ABM will provide muchneeded relief to Rylander and West Memorial elementary schools, as well as, balance enrollment as the District prepares to open two elementary schools and one junior high next school year. During this entire process, the District welcomed feedback from the community through an online survey. Nearly 9,000 parents, staff and community members completed the survey and dozens shared their feedback during the open forum at various Board meetings. These comments helped shape the ABM and addressed major needs and concerns cited by parents and community. The District presented to the Board a preliminary ABM proposal on November 16th and then an updated option on December 7th to better address the overcrowding at West Memorial Elementary.

The Board approved the updated ABM option on December 14th. The District estimates that approximately 3,600 students will be impacted by the approved attendance boundary modifications. Katy ISD will be notifying all impacted families in January/February 2016. For more information about the ABM process, including maps of the approved attendance boundary modifications, visit the District’s ABM webpage.

Katy High School’s Head Football Coach Gary Joseph, was recently selected as a 2016 inductee into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. Coach Joseph, along with eight other inductees, were announced on Saturday, December 19th at NRG Stadium. Coach Joseph began his coaching career at Luling High School 37 years ago. The SPARK School Program works with schools and neighborhoods to develop community parks on public school grounds. In the past 30 years, SPARK has built over 200+ community parks throughout the Houston/Harris County area. Winborn Elementary has been chosen as the first campus in Katy ISD to receive this honor. Because SPARK Parks are available for public use during nonschool hours and on weekends, the first goal of the SPARK project at Winborn is to build a walking/running track on the school grounds for the surrounding neighborhood to use and enjoy. All proceeds from Run for the Heart will be allocated for the Winborn SPARK Park community track. “What’s wrong with this picture?” is the playful theme and question attached to each show in Houston Family Arts Center’s (HFAC) 2015-2016 season. Entering its 10th mainstage season, HFAC orchestrated a line-up of all-encompassing shows that highlight the theatre’s award-winning musical expertise, all while enveloping theatre experiences full of odd, zany, mystical and dramatic turmoil audiences love. The first half of the season as follows: January 29th-February 21st: “Forever Plaid” On their way to see the Beatles’ American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, a quartet of high school friends’ musical dreams begin and quickly end after a car crash involving a busload of Catholic schoolgirls. March 11th-April 3rd: “Harvey” What do you get when you mix a polite and friendly man with a strange, six-foot-tall, invisible rabbit named Harvey? A sister who wants to commit her brother, but gets committed herself and a town comically turned upside down on the search for a mild-mannered hero and his invisible friend. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center.

Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 38 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year is titled “Through the Years” We are singing songs from 1900 and every decade after that. If your
