Effective August 1, 2015, automated service will begin and poly carts should be placed with the handle facing away from the street and wheels against the curb. Carts must be placed at the curb before 7 AM on Tuesday and Friday. Heavy Trash days will now be on the 1st & 3rd Friday of the month. • Please place poly carts on the street with wheels against the curb as seen in the picture below. • Carts should not be placed too close to mailboxes, fences, parked cars or other objects. • Allow for ample space from other objects and carts so the automated lifting mechanism can be attached around the cart and lifted into the truck and then lowered back to the curb. • Bagging your trash before you put it in your cart will help prevent blowing trash when it is dumped and helps to maintain the cleanliness of the cart. • Trash (95 gallon cart) is collected on Tuesday and Friday, with heavy trash on every 1st & 3rd Friday of the month. • Only the WCA poly carts will be picked up on Tuesday and Friday. Items placed on or beside the cart, will not be serviced. • Holidays observed by WCA: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day and New Year’s Day. 1. Children 48” and under in height entering the swimming pool area will be required to wear a wristband issued by the lifeguards. CHILD SAFETY 2. A red wristband indicates that the child has NOT passed a swim test administered by the lifeguards. Children with a red wristband are issued a lifejacket that must be worn at all times. If the guardian elects to not have the child wear a lifejacket, the guardian is then required to be within arm’s length of the child at ALL times. The guardian is also issued a red wristband. 3. A green wristband indicates that the child has passed a swim test. Once a child has passed the swim test, the child’s name will be added to TAE’s (Texas Aquatic Enterprises) Child Safety Log. Each visit to the pool, the child will need to give the lifeguard this name and a green wristband will be issued. Children on the Safety Log are not required to wear a lifejacket or to be within arm’s reach of the guardian. 4. The swim test consists of swimming one length of the pool unassisted. This includes no aid from flotation devices, the lane ropes, pool walls or the bottom of the pool. 5. Any child on the Child Safety Log can be asked to perform a test again, should the lifeguards on duty feel the child’s swimming ability has diminished. TAE RECOGNIZES THAT PARENTS/GUARDIANS HAVE THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CHILDREN. UPON REQUEST BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN, TAE MAY PERMIT CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT PASSED A SWIM TEST TO USE THE POOLS WITHOUT A LIFEJACKET. TAE MAY REQUIRE THE PARENT/GUARDIAN TO SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY BEFORE PERMITTING UN-LIFEJACKETED CHILDREN TO USE THE POOLS.

Power washing: Take a walk around your property. If you see green or black mildew on your home and driveway, you can power wash the mildew off your gutters, home exterior, driveway and sidewalk. This small step of maintenance can keep your property looking well maintained. Gutters: Gutters need to be cleaned out on a regular basis. This time of year they fill up with pine needles and leaves. If the gutters are full of leaves and pine needles, they will not drain properly and will need to be cleaned. The extra weight will cause the gutter nails to become loose and the gutter will sag or fall from your home. Gutters are important as they protect the fascia boards.

Painting: It is important to put a good coat of paint on your home which may mean painting every three to five years on an average, depending on the quality of the paint. Painting obviously improves the appearance of your home and protects your wood or hardiplank from the elements reducing rot. Don’t forget your ACC application along with paint color samples, which must be processed and approved first!

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through August. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Another and very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or, the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all. Marie Nugent - 281-859-1104

PET HOTLINE NEWS

Kittens and puppies are being dumped in Subdivisions and shopping strips. They will not find good homes. Most will be taken by the pound or shelter and those are overflowing with pets. They cannot help but have to euthanize some. You, as a responsible pet owner can be of great help by having your cat or dog spayed or neutered and not worry about finding homes for the offspring. You will have a healthier and happy pet.

• Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage. • Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround. The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun can dry the turf. • Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so. Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so the microorganisms have a favorable environment.

SALES TAX WEEKEND AUG. 7 - 9, 2015

This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 7th - 9th. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Subject to the criteria explained on the website (http://comptroller. texas.gov/taxinfo/taxpubs/taxholiday/d/), all sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online or by telephone or mail. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

CFISD Telge Exhibit Center (Telge & Hwy 290)

The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.
