Effective IMMEDIATELY any vehicles parked in the pool and playground areas located at Windsong Trail and Keith Harrow or the Clubhouse located at Holly Forest between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM will be towed at the owners expense. Please remember these areas are closed from dusk till dawn. Looking for crime stats? Check out www.crimereports.com for more up to date information. Or go to Harris County Sherriff’s Office website and follow the links.

EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS Are you planning to make repairs and upgrades to the exterior of your home including the landscaping? Please don’t forget to submit your ACC application before making any changes to the exterior of your home or property. The ACC Committee processes the applications as quickly as possible. Supplying the specifications of your improvement, a lot survey indicating the location of the modification, and a sample or detailed list of materials to be used will also help speed up this process. If you need an application, please contact Erica Morgan at emorgan@pmghouston.com or 713-329-7186.

PROTECT ONE OF YOUR MOST VALUABLE INVESTMENTS BY DEVELOPING A CONSISTENT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE By doing some simple preventative maintenance, you can extend the life of your home and minimize costly repairs. Painting: It is important to put a good coat of paint on your home which may mean painting every three to five years on an average, depending on the quality of the paint. Painting obviously improves the appearance of your home and protects your wood or hardiplank from the elements reducing rot. Don’t forget your ACC application along with paint color samples, which must be processed and approved first! Power washing: Take a walk around your property. If you see green or black mildew on your home and driveway, you can power wash the mildew off your gutters, home exterior, driveway and sidewalk. This small step of maintenance can keep your property looking well maintained. Gutters: Gutters need to be cleaned out on a regular basis. This time of year they fill up with pine needles and leaves. If the gutters are full of leaves and pine needles, they will not drain properly and will need to be cleaned. The extra weight will cause the gutter nails to become loose and the gutter will sag or fall from your home. Gutters are important as they protect the fascia boards.

Landscaping: Trees, shrubs and seasonal flowers add a great deal to the value of your home and the community. Remember that over time trees and shrubs can become overgrown and unsightly. Please keep your landscaping well trimmed and yard edged so that it enhances your home and does not interfere with the street.

This means they cannot be kept on the sides on your homes, behind a bush, on the front porch or in front of the garage. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

PET HOTLINE NEWS

Kittens and puppies are being dumped in Subdivisions and

shopping strips. They will not find good homes. Most will be taken by the pound or shelter and those are overflowing with pets. They cannot help but have to euthanize some. You, as a responsible pet owner can be of great help by having your cat or dog spayed or neutered and not worry about finding homes for the offspring. You will have a healthier and happy pet. Another and very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or, the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all.

HOUSTON CY-FAIR LIONS CLUB

TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENING Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club will conduct FREE vision screening to children from six months of age and older at the Jersey Village Holiday in the Park, to be held Sunday December 6th, from 1-4 PM at Clark Henry Park. This vision screening uses a unique special camera that takes a photo of the child’s eyes and within seconds relates a pass or refer status. Those with the refer status will need to have a professional eye examination at a local optometrist. Vision problems are the leading disability in children, who are unaware that they cannot see properly. They cannot compare their vision to others and vision problems do not cause pain or

December 2015

inflammation, so parents, teachers and caregivers are unaware that the child has visual difficulties. Eighty percent of learning is visual. The Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club has recently purchased the Plusoptix Vision Screener for this community service project. This is part of a nationwide KidSight initiative through Lions Clubs International to screen children early for vision problems. Please bring your children to the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club booth at Holiday in the Park for this important screening, which takes only a minute. To schedule a free vision screening at your day care or church, please contact: Sandy Martin, Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club Vision Screening Program, 281-550-2798 or bikee77095@yahoo.com.

enveloping theatre experiences full of odd, zany, mystical and dramatic turmoil audiences love. The first half of the season as follows: Thru December 20, 2015: “It’s a Wonderful Life” George Bailey spends his life giving up big dreams on behalf of his community. Overwhelmed by family obligations, George uncovers an opportunity to save his town but a mistake finds himself in a disparaging situation. George’s guardian angel, Clarence, who hasn’t earned his wings, takes George on a journey to discover his “wonderful life.” All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press.

HOLIDAY SECURITY During the holidays there is an unfortunate increase in home and vehicle burglaries. There are a few things you can do to deter thieves. When shopping for those gifts, secure them in the trunk of your car or out of sight. Visible shopping bags are an invitation to thieves. Be aware of people around you and if you feel someone is following you or watching you, do not get in the car. Many shopping malls offer security officer that will escort you to your car. Take advantage of that service. It’s no secret that piles of unchecked holiday mail and newspapers can tip off burglars to an empty house and lead to holiday break-ins. If you’re traveling during the holidays, it’s a good idea to ask a neighbor to help keep up your home’s appearances so it doesn’t have that vacant look about it. Even a small favor such as asking your neighbor to occasionally park their car in your

CHRISTMAS TREE TIPS Permission to reprint granted by the National Safety Council, a membership organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health.

17111-A KIETH HARROW BLVD. (near Lieder Elementary)

For many people, decorating the Christmas tree is a favorite part of the holiday. The National Safety Council offers some safety tips to make sure a mishap doesn’t spoil your holiday season.

SHOP OUR BUY ONE GET ONE FREE SPECIAL!

Christmas Trees A real tree can add to the spirit of Christmas by filling your home with beauty and the scent of pine. But a real tree can also pose a fire hazard. Each year, more than 400 residential fires involve Christmas trees and tragically nearly 40 deaths and 100 injuries result from those fires. • Try to select a fresh tree by looking for one that is green. The needles of pines and spruces should bend and not break and should be hard to pull off the branches. On fir species, a needle pulled from a fresh tree will snap when bent, much like a fresh carrot. Also, look for a trunk sticky with sap. • Cut off about two inches of the trunk and put the tree in a sturdy, water-holding stand. Keep the stand filled with water so the tree does not dry out quickly. • Stand your tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. Make sure the tree does not block foot traffic or doorways. • If you use an artificial tree, choose one that tested and labeled as fire resistant. Artificial trees with built-in electrical systems should have the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) label.

Donations of gently worn men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and house-hold items in good condition are accepted on Saturdays during store hours.

Tree lights • Only use indoor lights indoors (and outdoor lights only outdoors). Look for the UL label. Check lights for broken or cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires or loose connections. Replace or repair any damaged light sets. • Also, use no more than three light sets on any one extension cord. Extension cords should be placed against the wall to avoid tripping hazards, but do not run cords under rugs. • Turn off all lights on trees and decorations when you go to bed or leave the house.

Tree ornaments • Always use the proper step stool or ladder to reach high places. • Read labels before you use materials that come in jars, cans and spray cans. • Never place lighted candles on a tree or near any flammable materials. • Avoid placing breakable tree ornaments or ones with small, detachable parts on lower branches where small children or pets can reach them. • Do not hang popcorn chains and candy canes on the tree when small children are present. They may think that other tree ornaments are also edible.
