EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS

Springtime is the season to make repairs and upgrades to the exterior of your home including the landscaping. Please don’t forget to submit your ACC application before making any changes to the exterior of your home or property. The ACC Committee processes the applications as quickly as possible. Supplying the specifications of your improvement, a lot survey indicating the location of the modification, and a sample or detailed list of materials to be used will also help speed up this process. If you need an application, please contact Erica Morgan at emorgan@ pmghouston.com or 713-329-7186.

PROTECT ONE OF YOUR MOST VALUABLE INVESTMENTS BY DEVELOPING A CONSISTENT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE By doing some simple preventative maintenance, you can extend the life of your home and minimize costly repairs. Painting: It is important to put a good coat of paint on your home which may mean painting every three to five years on an average, depending on the quality of the paint. Painting obviously improves the appearance of your home and protects your wood or hardiplank from the elements reducing rot. Don’t forget your ACC application along with paint color samples, which must be processed and approved first!

Power washing: Take a walk around your property. If you see green or black mildew on your home and driveway, you can power wash the mildew off your gutters, home exterior, driveway and sidewalk. This small step of maintenance can keep your property looking well maintained.

CASAS GROUP DESIGN CENTER • Custom Picture Framing • Barn Doors • Custom Cabinets and Woodwork • Custom Furniture • Shabby Chic Furniture • Visit our Showroom- M-Sat. 8-5

Gutters: Gutters need to be cleaned out on a regular basis. This time of year they fill up with pine needles and leaves. If the gutters are full of leaves and pine needles, they will not drain properly and will need to be cleaned. The extra weight will cause the gutter nails to become loose and the gutter will sag or fall from your home. Gutters are important as they protect the fascia boards. Landscaping: Trees, shrubs and seasonal flowers add a great deal to the value of your home and the community. Remember that over time trees and shrubs can become overgrown and unsightly. Please keep your landscaping well trimmed and yard edged so that it enhances your home and does not interfere with the street.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through October. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

STREET LIGHTS

Street lights are an essential part of safety. If you notice a street light out within the Windsong community, please report it to the following number immediately. 713-207-2222, opt 1, opt 4 or www.centerpointenergy.com/outage Please make sure that you obtain the 6-digit light pole number and nearest address to the pole when reporting a light out. It is also important that you turn on your garage/driveway lights at night. Encourage your neighbors to do so also. Effective home lighting can be an effective deterrent to crime.

PET HOTLINE NEWS

Kittens and puppies are being dumped in Subdivisions and shopping strips. They will not find good homes. Most will be taken by the pound or shelter and those are overflowing with pets. They cannot help but have to euthanize some. You, as a responsible pet owner can be of great help by having your cat or dog spayed or neutered and not worry about finding homes for the offspring. You will have a healthier and happy pet. Another and very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or, the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all.

ENGLISH AND ART GO HAND-IN-HAND AT CY LAKES Two English teachers at Cy Lakes bring an extra element to their English classes at Cy Lakes High School - their love of art. Elizabeth Rector, English II teacher and Micah Clegg, English IV teacher, both use their art talent to engage students and add a unique dimension to their English classes.

Holiday Ladies Night! Exclusively for the Ladies!

Elizabeth Rector remembers drawing with her mother when she was a child and being competitive, she decided to practice drawing until she was better than her mother. She loves all types of art and in addition to being the head cartoonist for the Texas Christian University newspaper The Skiff, Rector’s art has been featured in various publications. Recently, her ceramic pieces won first place in an art contest in the Woodlands. In the classroom, Rector illustrates events and characters in stories to help students gain a better understanding of the story. She states that she uses art to connect students with literature, especially those who have visual learning styles. Windsong

Micah Clegg also uses his artistic talent to aid students in understanding literature. His goal is to be able to touch those emotions that reside within us and to “make the extraordinary look ordinary and the ordinary look extraordinary.” Clegg has illustrated two books and his work includes pen and ink and watercolor. As students read stories and novels in his classroom, Clegg sketches scenes and characters to bring the literature to life and give students a deeper understanding and appreciation of the text. Both Rector and Clegg have a passion for teaching English and both find it rewarding to bring their love of art into the classroom for their students.

BOY SCOUTS CY-FALLS STUDENT JOSH GILLIAM OF TROOP 202 EARNS EAGLE SCOUT AWARD

On Sunday, July 19th, Josh Gilliam, son of Jim & Pam Gilliam of Copperfield, earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. Josh is a member of Troop 202, a troop sponsored by Middlegate Village Homeowner’s Association. Troop 202 meets regularly on Mondays at 7 PM at Copperfield Church.

For his Eagle project and at the recommendation given by Josh’s church - Copperfield Church, Josh chose to build a work table/ cabinet for the church staff’s resource room. The cabinet was used to replace a limited, portable 6’ table. The cabinet was constructed of ¾” oak ply-wood with an attractive laminate countertop. The bottom consisted of six cubby-hole shelves (3 in front and back) which will be used for storage. Josh used his funds to purchase the materials from Home Depot. With the help of adult and youth volunteers from Troop 202, as well as scout friends from other troops, Josh organized the crew for the building and installation of the work table/cabinet. Upon being awarded the Eagle Scout rank, Josh has thus-far successBoy

COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield Village HOA, LDS Bear Creek and Copperfield Wards, Middlegate Village HOA, Peace Community Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Thornton Middle School. Please contact Angelita Guerrero, Copperhead District Executive (713-756-3389 or email angelita.guerrero@scouting.org) or to go www.copperhead.shac.org to find join a Scouting unit near you.
