Varsha was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka. With a background in science (BSc) from the Colombo University, Charted Management accountancy and Executive education from the Harvard University, Boston, USA. She’s been a marketing professional for 20 years working in Sri Lanka ,Myanmar & Hong Kong. Varsha was the Associate Director for Asia for Global Brands at Pernod Ricard Asia HQ in Hong Kong until end of 2022. She has been painting since childhood, but I started pursuing it professionally as ‘Varna by Varsha ‘ (Varna meaning Color) about a year ago. She found it to be enormously meditative, peaceful, therapeutic and mindful at a time it was much needed in her life.
In her own words -
It’s pure expression from within, but the subject matter is always feelings, human connection - direct or indirect, how we as humans perceive our experiences, attitudes, and our moods pervasive/changeable/ unpredictable. I try to find meaning in feelings, in the process of finding that meaning and expressing that visually I find peace and challenge at the same time. Painting for me is not only the end visual on a canvas, cause a painting is never a finished product, an artist will always find imperfection and will keep improving on his/her masterpiece until time allows. So for me the adrenaline rush is in the process , sketching the idea on a note pad, visualizing it on the canvas, opening the tube of colors, mixing paint, the sound of the brush against the canvas and seeing your concept come to life piece by piece.
