Yes, money can buy happiness ...if you spend it on experiences You won't find happiness at the mall in the form of a huge new TV or in the department store in the form of new clothes or a fancy coffee pot. They will not increase your overall happiness. Spending money on experiences maximizes happiness, says Michael Norton, an associate professor at Harvard Business School and co-author of Happy Money: The Science of Smarter Spending.

Quick work stress buster For its recent How-to issue, Business Week asked 50 experts in various fields to write an article. This one is written by Lodro Rinzler, author of the bestselling book, The Buddha Walks into a Bar. One meditation technique you can use at your desk: Set a timer on your phone sound on the hour. When you hear it, look away from your computer and across the room or out a window. Place your attention on your breath.

* According to research published in Health magazine, people who spent money on concert tickets or planned dinner out were happier than those who spent money on tangible goods. One reason: they get more pleasure from bonding. The pleasure begins as you anticipate the event, which can be as valuable as the event itself. Afterward, recalling it will continue to give you pleasure in the following weeks or months. Even if the event doesn't turn out to be as nice as you thought it would, it still counts. People tend to remember things as better than they actually were. * Don't worry about self-improvement. Take pleasure in what's already good about yourself. At the University of Zurich, they say identifying your strong suits is better. Think about your top five strengths in your relationships at the office and in your home, and you’ll experience more happiness. * Enjoy the pleasure of giving. Giving to charities will make you feel good about yourself, but Dr. Norton's research finds that doing things for people you know makes you happiest. You'll love the joy rush from the positive feedback. * Fake it until you feel it. Smiling can cheer you up.

Here are a few things to think about before you appear before fellow workers or a group. * Check your posture. Good posture exudes confidence. * Take it slow. If you're nervous, slow down or your voice will go up a few notes and you'll talk faster than you realize. You'll sound less professional. * Smile. Especially when introduced and when the audience laughs, smile. It's easy to get a stressed look so take a breath and smile. Writing for Inc.com, Kevin Daum, author of Video Marketing for Dummies, says building credibility is vital. Here, in part, are his three points of credibility. 1. Confidence comes with being authoritative. Before speaking, find three known people or entities that support your expertise or point of view. You'll feel like there's an army behind you. 2. Document your expertise. Everything you've done before has led you to this moment. People are seeking experts and leaders but are skeptical at the beginning. Before a meeting, make a list of 10 insights you have about the situation. Writing them down will organize your thoughts and remind you of why you are the right person to be there. 3. Rehearse the role you'll be playing. Professionals make presentations look easy. That's because there is a lot of rigorous rehearsal behind the performance. Focus on how you present yourself and the information. Practice the delivery out loud.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion, heat stroke Exposure to excessive heat can cause the body to lose its ability to cool. Your temperature can reach 104 degrees or higher in 10 to 15 minutes. The symptoms of heat exhaustion include profuse sweating, muscle cramps, intense thirst, dizziness, nausea, fatigue and headache. If you experience any of these, drink plenty of water or other cool nonalcoholic fluids, and get to a cool or shady place. If symptoms don't improve, or if you have any of these heat stroke symptoms, seek immediate emergency medical attention. decisions that impact your future takes time and thought. Don't rush a decision before you consider all the relevant issues. Whether you're the owner or a manager, you will make mistakes in your career, but none should be because you were forced to make a premature decision. Most people spend more time planning their vacations than their future, according to Peter Hawkins in The Art of Building Windmills. * Take the time. Some decisions should take you days or even weeks to study and make. With sufficient time you can fully understand the ramifications of your choices. * Advice can be crucial in big decisions. Get advice from other entrepreneurs and trusted business people. Your employees may well have some good advice. Be objective and listen. In particular, when making a decision for another person, be sure that they are part of the process. * Keep the big picture in mind. Always try to make sure it is a win-win situation. Big decisions can have a lasting impact on your life and your business. It makes sense to do your research before making them.
