SITE
in the past 2 weeks of this project, it has focused mainly on the urban analysis and formulating a concept for the library on the site of the corner of Lasalle Street and North Avenue. The concept for “stacks originated from a stack of books, where the volume of rectangles were rotated on their central y-axis. The mass developed into the current main oval-like volume with the previous corners of the retangular volumes still implied in the facade as a type of diverse texture that emphasizes the verticality.

THE INSPIRATION RATION FOR THIS DANCE THEATRE EMERGED FROM THE HISTORY OF THE SITE FROM WHEN EN IT WAS FIRST A SALINE, OR R SALT SPRING. THE MOLECULAR CULAR COMPOSITION TION OF SALT ALT INSPIRES THE HE RE STRUCTURE AND THE DESIGN COMES OMES FROM IT’S RAW MINERAL FORM, NAMED HALITE. THIS S BUILDING TAKES THE TRAITS OF HALITE’S IMPURE STATE WHEN IT’S IN THE GROUND, WHICH BECOMES TRANSLATED INTO THE BUILDING ENVELOPE. THE ENVELOPE GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS CRYSTAL CUBE FORM IS EMERGING FROM THE IMPURITY, WHICH IS BEING CHIPPED AWAY.

inflated canopy
The Inflated Canopy is a balloon based structure that provides shelter, spectacle, and a sense of place in the courtyard at temple hoyne buell hall. The balloons are placed inside a closed net allowing external stimuli to manipulate the form of the structure. It responds to events like fluctuating temperatures, strong winds, and human interaction.
