PROFESSIONAL WORK
Urban duality | The Ordinary vs. Extraordinary Professor Irene Keil, Comprehensive Studio
Celebrating urban textures and the weaving together of opposing fabrics, this urban monastery and soup kitchen appropriates program into foreground and background spaces and unites them through a singular circulatory spine. Foreground spaces consist of celebrated community volumes where monks and homeless coalesce while background spaces include storage and monk living quarters.

EXISTING AND IMPLIED SPACES LIU | KRISTEN MCDANIEL
the actor vs. the character | Rome Professor Doug Harmon, Study Abroad
Expressing the duality of existing and implied spaces, this project draws inspiration from its context — the Baroque Saint Ignatius Church and Piazza . It strives to not only revitalize this public space, but also create areas of appreciation for the site’s existing architecture through a carved theater and tectonic sky-walkway.

an axial palimpsest | Rome Professor Judith Kinnard, Study Abroad
Utilizing the botanical gardens as a space of urban connection and public access, this project creates a direct connection to the Piazzale Garibaldi—drawing inspiration from the rhytmic formality of the historic Villa Riario Gardens. The project includes a series of terraced gardens, ramped paths, a cafe, and treetop walkway.
mGI institute | Protection + Celebration Professor Tiffany Lin, First Year Studio
Inspired by the Mardi Gras Indian’s costume, this design for a museum and youth residence was inspired by the suit’s protective and celebratory nature through the tribe’s masking tradition. The institute would help continue the Indian’s legacy and culture through the education and instruction of younger generations.
