SOCIAL CONVENOR'S REPORT (Darran Swain)
Mr President and Members of SACUSA,

The 2019/2020 season started in July with the Umpiring Launch at the Beach House in Glenelg where refreshments and breakfast were served. This was an excellent morning to hear all about the season ahead and to catch up before the cricket season started. Well done and thanks to SACA umpiring department in organising this day.

Umpires’ preseason training took place with our annual seminar taking place over 2 days, day 1 was at Hindmarsh, and the 2nd day was held at the Beach House where we heard from some special guests from different sports of how they prepare for matches, fitness, nutrition and how they handle game day- this was very informative. This weekend was also about team bonding and how to handle challenges etc which was a lot of fun. Pre-season was included with our yearly law study nights, training then continue throughout the season for Panel One, Panel Two and the Development Squad. These training nights involved theory and practical sessions. Training nights were very well received and umpires that attended them have commented how good they are and made positive comments. Most panels conducted one training night per month at one of the premier cricket clubs, what a great idea not only to work on our practical side of umpiring but also a great PR to the cricket clubs that we train and assist these clubs on the day, i.e. stand in the nets for LBWs etc. These nights are not only informative but also a lot of fun as we mix with other umpires and assist and support one another throughout the season.

Our monthly meetings this year were held at the Karen Rolton Oval, where we enjoyed a BBQ and salad tea before the meeting. During the season the committee, once again, decided to change the menu and have different meals on some nights, this included make your hamburgers, yiros etc, this was very well received, and we will be looking at changing the menu occasionally for variation. Thank you to Kristen Thomas for her wonderful and very tasty cheese and cracker platter which was always greatly appreciated. Thank you also to Shane Roberts and Ted Branson for purchasing the food for the meetings, and to Bruce Stribley and Ted for organising the drinks for every meeting. I would like to sincerely thank Craig Thomas, Bruce Stribley, Ted Branson and Shane Roberts for managing this on my behalf, they certainly did a fantastic job. An important part of our monthly meetings is the raffle, these raffles help offset the cost of the meals, and the continued support of members is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the people who donated prizes for every meeting.
I would personally like to thank Sarah Fry and Daniel Goodwin for opening and closing Karen Rolton Oval for every meeting and assisting us in getting things organised, your support is very much appreciated.
This year we organised five get togethers after the 1st day of a 2-day game, these were well attended by approx. 15 umpires per get together. It was great to be able to catch up with experienced umpires as well as new umpires for a meal and a drink and talk about their game and any issues anyone had. One of our get togethers coincided with the visit of our VCAUSA & NSWCUSA exchange umpires - thank you to Craig Thomas for organising this get together. Thank you to those that attended, and we hope to see a few more attend these nights after a day of umpiring. We will be scheduling more during the season, so please keep an eye on the dates.
In October, 26 members and partners attended a night at the Dogs at Angle Park, what a brilliant night it was. A fantastic dinner and watching greyhound racing, as well as watching some of our members win money and lose some money! What a great night and I highly recommend that you attend our next one. Page 12
