Intelligent. Beautiful. Energetic.
IBE Women On Top of Their Game
By Kristi LovelaceI guess you could call them “Barter’s Angels.” The women of IBE (International Barter Exchange) are intelligent, beautiful, energetic and very much a team committed to excellence in both their business and family lives.
IBE negotiates several million dollars in trades throughout Southwest Florida every year and has more than 700 local members so these women have to be on top of their game at all times. Not an easy task when you factor in the
fact that Anne, Janette and April have a combined total of nine children under the age of 8, including two sets of twins.
Anne Weiser, Director of New Membership Development, is the daughter of Ron and Mary Unger who started IBE in 1991 in the garage of their rented home. IBE then moved to their current headquarters, which was completely remodeled using what else? Trade dollars.
“I started helping my family in the office the day our doors opened,” said Weiser. “I understand what a partnership with IBE has
to offer to our local business community and I believe in our company. I work here because I truly love what we do and I enjoy helping other businesses grow.”
Weiser’s favorite part of working at IBE is educating business owners on how to accept trade as a form of payment and gain new business. “Once I’ve had an opportunity to sit with a business owner and ask him or her questions about their business, find out what some of their successes or struggles may be, then offer a solution…that’s the best part.”
“I love when the ‘light bulb’ goes on and they start to understand my passion and then see why I’m so passionate about what IBE has to offer,” added Weiser.
Janette Perry is a Registered Trade Broker at IBE and Office Administrator April Bass also happens to be Weiser’s next-door neighbor. Both women share Weiser’s enthusiasm for what they do.
“I love the efficiency,” said Bass. “I love how we turn dead space into dollars – especially in an economy where so many families are pinching pennies and cutting back. Keep your housekeeper, have those cavities filled, fine dine on date night … and do it all with the income that IBE has generated for you.”
As a trade broker, Perry said she is really an extension of each business’ sales and marketing - always working to promote IBE’s members. Promoting the members brings her great satisfaction.
“My favorite part is when members call to say how thrilled they are that they were able to put braces on their kids’ teeth by providing their products and services. I love making people happy and when they really get what we are doing for them and what the members are doing for each other it is a beautiful thing,” said Perry.

FINDING A BALANCE
The fact that these women are equally passionate about IBE’s mission can make it difficult to maintain a balance between their work and family lives, but they manage to do so quite well and offer advice for others.
“I keep my family time and work life separate so I can absorb every minute with my kids since I have to share them with my exhusband,” said Perry. “Members are able to get in touch with me any time they need me, but usually it’s just an occasional text for some referrals so I don’t mind being there for them after hours.”
Weiser also works hard to keep business and family time separate. “My days begin and end spending time with my children - the four best things that ever happened to me.” Weiser said.
“I don’t waste my time. When I’m with my family, my time is used by spending my time with them. When I’m at work, my time is spent maximizing my time to generate new business for IBE. When you have a ‘window of opportunity’ to see results, you learn to use your time efficiently, at home and at work,” she added.
Maintaining that healthy balance requires a lot of skill as the women of IBE demonstrate.
“I am a master multi-tasker,” said Bass. “You wouldn’t believe how many of the skills acquired by running a household and raising kids lend themselves to my professional life.”
Weiser added that planning plays a key role in managing her time efficiently. “I’m a planner.
I have goals at home and at work,” said Weiser. “I feel like if I don’t have a plan, then I’ve planned to fail.”
All of the women agree that in order to achieve a proper work-life balance, they must take care of themselves first. Finding time to do so can be difficult with work, children, school, errands and housework, but they feel its key.
“I completely understand wanting to be everything for everyone, but I am only on top of my game when I’m taking care of me,” said Bass. “Have something special that’s just for you. For me, it’s working out – it clears my mind, keeps me healthy and majorly boosts my confidence. Find something that makes you feel amazing and don’t be afraid to make time for it. No guilt!”
THE IBE FAMILY
The bond of this close-knit family-owned business is strong.
“I absolutely love the Unger family and these fantastic ladies I work with. They are all so amazing, fun and passionate about what they do. We make a great team!” said Perry.
Mary Unger lights up when she talks about the strength and commitment of the women of IBE. “They each possess a strong work ethic that includes a high level of integrity, honesty and loyalty,” she said.
“Each woman represents the qualities we as woman strive for every day, meeting the demands of a busy family & business life and they do it gracefully,” boasts Unger.

Acne Myths Cleared Up!
Pimple Flare Ups Not Just For Teens
People often say that having acne is no big deal, but that’s far from true. Studies show that acne can diminish a person’s quality of life. Having acne can lead to depression and anxiety. Acne can make people feel ugly. It can destroy a person’s self-confidence. People can feel so badly that they stop hanging out with friends. Acne can even cause adults to call in sick rather than face a day at work.
Clearing up acne can relieve the source of these disturbances, but many people don’t realize that something can be done.
Many myths about acne, especially regarding diet and hygiene, are still considered true.
Acne Myth: Dirt causes acne.
Acne Fact: Acne is not caused by dirt. And no amount of scrubbing with soap and water will do anything to help clear it up. In fact, toofrequent washing can have the opposite effect. Why? Aggressive scrubbing can irritate skin and strip away oil. Removing necessary oil can trigger even more oil production and can make acne worse.
Acne Myth: Acne is caused by candy, french fries and greasy foods.
Acne Fact: Acne is not caused by your diet in practically all cases. Because it takes about two-three weeks for a pimple to emerge, if one shows up the day after you ate a bunch of chocolate, there is no connection!
Acne Myth: Only teenagers get acne.
Acne Fact: What IS true is that 90% of teens get acne. But also about 50% of adult women
and 25% of adult men get acne at some time, sometimes for as long as 20 years. Genetics and hormones are the acne triggers in everyone. In adults, stress can have a profound effect on hormones which, in turn, can cause acne to flare up.
Acne Myth: Spot treatments heal breakouts.
Acne Fact: It takes two to three weeks for a pimple to appear, which means that spot treatments only clear up surface pimples. They do nothing to resolve the root causes of your blemish and will not prevent future breakouts. As an alternative to frustrating spot treatments, our Drs. pioneered the concept of regular twicedaily maintenance with a medicated skin-care system designed to help prevent blemishes from happening in the first place. Why “spot treat” an ugly blemish after it erupts when you can stop if from appearing in the first place?
The fact that 80% of us feel dissatisfied with the reflection facing us in the mirror is simply unacceptable!
Acne Myth: Acne is common and no big deal.
Acne Fact: Sure, acne can be seen as a common skin condition without serious health consequences. But in fact, acne is a profoundly serious condition that can have devastating consequences - emotionally, socially and physically. Untreated acne can cause scarring and damage self-esteem.
Acne Myth: Sun exposure helps dry up acne.
Acne Fact: Sun exposure makes acne worse. Perhaps the myth started because light tanning may hide some red marks or dry an active blemish, but the sun causes skin cells to shed even more and that’s a major acne trigger. Many sunscreens also make acne worse, because they can clog pores. Look for oil-free
sunscreen labeled non-comedogenic, which means it’s proven to not block pores. Do not go without sunscreen, even on a cloudy day.
Acne Myth: Acne is curable.
Acne Fact: Acne has no cure - not even with the most expensive prescription medication or the best over-the-counter system. However, acne can be healed and controlled with daily maintenance therapy with proven acne medicines. It may also clear up naturally as you age and undergo typical hormonal shifts, however those same shifts could cause an old acne problem to reappear later in life.
With daily maintenance, someone with acne can enjoy a complexion that’s as clear as someone who has never had acne. Skin is a BeautifulThing –Wear itWell…
Making School Less Stressful for Everyone SCHOOL back 2
Thesetentipswillhelpyourfamilystartthe schoolyearwithlessstress.
1) Find out which lunches can be made ahead. Nut-butter and jelly sandwiches can be packaged and frozen. Veggies can be pre-cut. Pre-prep your child’s first week of lunches and snacks so you can grab-and-go
2) Starting a week before school begins, establish bedtime and morning routines.
3) Train kids to pick out school clothes before bedtime. If a school uniform is required, consider buying extra shirts and pants in case of accidents to avoid a laundry crisis.
4) Make your own mornings easier. Preset the coffee pot, prepack your lunch, and pick out your clothes before bed.
5) Do your school shopping early to avoid the last-minute crowds. Don’t feel pressured to bring your kids with you on every trip. Save a few special items for them to pick out. Double-check your school’s rules on things like character book bags and blinky shoes to avoid disappointment.
6) Remember kids need time to unwind after school. Allow them to play and blow off steam before getting down to homework and chores.
7) Take time to connect every day. You might not care about locker assignments or science projects, but if it’s important your child, give them the gift of your full attention. Consider making family dinners a distraction-free time.
8) Go through your child’s folder regularly. Put school events or meetingson your calendar immediately so you can plan around them and keep them from sneaking up on you. Throw out or recycle anything you don’t need.
9) Purchase a scrapbook case from the crafting store. As special artwork and projects come home from school, save your favorites. The boxes are easy to store and will help keep these treasures free from dust or damage.
10) Have a backup plan in place for sick kids before school even begins. Decide who will stay home from work with the sick child or have a list of reliable babysitters ready to go.

TRAVEL&
It’s Not Your Grandma’s Cruise!
Cruising has come a long way since the “Love Boat.” In today’s cruising, the choices are endless!
Dining Evolution
In the past, passengers had two dining choices, early or late – quite the constraint. Can you imagine going on vacation and being told when to eat? Not anymore! Today’s trip has a plethora of options. Most cruise lines now offer “open dining” where you can dine anytime between 6:00 and 9:00 pm. For a nominal charge, most ships offer specialty restaurants comparable to any five-star land-based restaurant for much less than the typical hundreds of dollars. Of course, for the casual experience, there’s always the buffet! Royal Caribbean even boasts famous chains, like the famous ‘Johnny Rockets’. Dining on today’s cruise ships is a phenomenal experience!
Top-Notch Entertainment
The post-dinner variety shows of yesteryear are no more! What a contrast to the plethora of entertainment available today. Royal Caribbean has real, Broadway-caliber shows like “Chicago” and “Saturday Night Fever.” On their newest ships, the Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, they even have the “Aqua Theater” -- an outside entertainment area which includes acrobatics and diving from a 62-feet high platform. The Norwegian Epic even features the famous “Blue Man Group.” These newer ships also have their own dedicated comedy clubs, with new comedians flying in every few days. Love Karaoke? There’s always a lounge onboard where you can sing (or listen to others) to your heart’s content.
No More Boring Days at Sea
Say good-bye to the men’s hairy chest contests! The overdone, and somewhat disturbing, pool festivities have been replaced with new games. On the Oasis and Allure of the Seas you can enjoy zip-lining, flow-riding, and rock climbing. Not to mention each ship’s six pools, a huge casino, and the wonderful serenity of the (adults-only) ‘Solarium’. From dawn to dusk, you’ll never find a dull moment. Celebrity Cruises divided their activities into categories - Taste, Learn, Revive, and Play – to help its passengers target in on the festivity of their choice. Worst case scenario, grab a book from the library and enjoy basking in the sun while the ship takes you to your next exciting port of call.
