Leilanie Imagine yourself as a New York resident. Climbing out of crowded subways to meet an even more crowded street. A Street flooded with yellow taxis and men, and women dressed in black coats. New York is the largest city in the US. New York is a city full of dazzling buildings, and magnificent skyscrapers. It was a hot sunny day from the point of view of people in New York, just like the rest of the other days. It was a boiling 69 degrees Fahrenheit! Something unbelievable, something the city wasn’t expecting. The government took action to this situation, and since they controlled the atmosphere, they dropped it too low that some people were freezing to death. New Yorkers still complained about the city’s hotness and decided to move to San Luis, AZ cold temperature of 120 degrees, for their own benefit. The others lived under New York's hot weather conditions. They figured out their own ways of maintaining themselves refreshed, although every single room, place, restaurant, or store had an air conditioning. Air conditioning just wasn’t enough so instead of wearing clothes they wore relaxing cool astronaut suits accompanied with their own air conditioning system. New York’s mayor, Bill John , stood in front of the city on June 25, 2095 to address the major heat problem. “We will all survive if we stay united. I understand the extremely hot temperatures feel like we’re living in the desert. This is why I’m making laws that ban: hot tubing, eating hot food, saunas, steam rooms, exercise that causes sweat .” They sent out a mayor heat advisory and placed public cooling centers. This was no surprise for the city. Most of the people living in New York had already been following these procedures ,if not it would be considered as breaking the law, which could cause serious and several years of prison. For this reason, New Yorkers tried to avoid breaking the law , even though it was extremely hot. New York have bad villains too, ,who are heat thieves and put you in a hot place where you can melt to death. It was a boiling 69 degrees Fahrenheit! Something unbelievable, something the city wasn’t expecting.

Neyda The Use of Lab Animals What do you think of the use of animals for doing experiments in medical studies? This form of doing experiments goes back to before Galen, a physician in 2nd-Century Rome, dissected pigs and goats, and is known as the “father of vivisection. Nowadays, many people are against this form of cruelty against this inoffensive creatures. Others, believe it’s the best way to create and test cures for humans before being used on us. Many believe that animal testing contributes to treatments--while opponents say the lab animals are a poor test subject because they are different than us. In this essay, ProCon.Org states and explains the pros and cons of animal testing. When you walk through the pharmacy and see a new medicine, have you ever thought how well those cures work--well before coming to your hands, there were tested on animals. According to ProCon.Org,”Animal testing has contributed to many life-saving cures and treatments. The California

Biomedical Research Association states that nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.Experiments in which dogs had their pancreases removed led directly to the discovery of insulin, critical to saving the lives of diabetics.” In other words, ProCon.Com believes that many treatments and cures wouldn’t be invented, if we didn’t test them first with animals since there are the object in which the new formula is tested on. The discussion of ProCons.Org is in fact adressing the larger matter of animal testing being helpful for scientists because in this way it is safer and more productive to test new products before going with humans. ProCon.Org theory of animal testing contributing to life-saving cures and treatment is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of people wanting to end the use of animals for lab experiments because they see it unproductive for civilization and a threat for the species, but with this research it contradicts those beliefs. Furthermore, animals have being the key for many accomplishments in medicine, but do you think that law should interfere with the use of this living creatures? Many of us, think that when tests are done on animals, it may be something wrong that nowadays everyone accepts. ProCon.Org itself writes,” Animals do not have rights, therefore it is acceptable to experiment on them.Animals do not have the cognitive ability or moral judgment that humans do Maybe and because of this they have been treated differently than the reason for animal humans by nearly every culture throughout recorded history.” ProCons.Org point is that tests can be done in being treated differently is animals since they don’t need a lawyer or money in order because throughout many centuries to have the permission to do it. Otherwise, if there was people saw animals not the same animal rights, there would be no meat and we all of us will as us, which meant they could have to become vegetarians and many discoveries done do anything to them. today might of never been progressed. I disagree with ProCon.Org view that animal don’t have rights and humans can do anything they want with them because animal may not have paper rights, but there is laws that protect them from being hurt; for example it’sgainst the law to use dogs for fighting. Eventually, there is the AWA(Animal Welfare Act) that “protects” animal being used in labs--but the true is that 95% of the animals have no protection--like rats and mice. So, are we going to wait until the animals we use for experiments become threaten, to create a law to protect them? When the government does experiments on these undefendable creatures, many of them don’t survive the process; while others who survive but have psychological problems after it. ProCon.Org states, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,395 primates, 5,996 rabbits, 33,652 guinea pigs, and 48,015 hamsters; “Animal testing is cruel and inhumane.” In making this comment, ProCon.Org wants to know that when processing animal testing many animals suffer; and more than 50% of the animals being used in an experiment are killed by chemicals. Ultimately, what is at stake here is that scientists are cruel to this poor animals--many of this mammals are forced to eat and drink or are subjected to the infliction of burning--which many of the times is the cause of their death. ProCon.Org is surely right about animal suffering during the process of the experiment because as some studies show in 2009 the Humane Society of the United States( HSUS) found primates refuged in New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) suffering from physiological stress !4

which lead to self-harm. Maybe the reason for animal being treated differently is because throughout many centuries people saw animals not the same as us, which meant they could do anything to them. Have you ever had the question: Why do we do test a medication on an animal, when the cure is for us? In ProCons.Org’s view,”Animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test subjects. The anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings.” The essence of ProCon.Org argument is that animals are not the best option to test on because we are not animals nor are animals humans--and our systems are completely different--like our cells or metabolism contrasts with each other. ProCon.Org point of view is important because a test on a new medicine it is clear that the result on a 6in tall rat will differ from a 1’5 ft tall person. ProCon.Org surely is right about lab animals being different in many ways to us humans--and may not have accurate results because it is hard to have an answer for a human problem, when the possible solution is being tested on a living creature that is some steps away of being same to us. However, this test may have given many positive results--but what is the cost? You may believe that using an animal with no rights has no costs, but unfortunately it's more expensive than you think. ProCon.Org states,”Animal tests are more expensive than alternative methods and are a waste of government research dollars.$11,000. A "rat phototoxicity test" costs $11,500, whereas the non-animal equivalent costs $1,300.” Basically ProCon.Org, is saying is that spending money on animal tests is more expensive and make the U.S spend more research money than needed which many of the people believe it could be used for other uses; either in science or economy. This discovery will have more significant applications on money being spent on more important necessities than on this kind of tests. My feelings on the issue are mixed, I do support ProCon.Org position that lab money can be used in other requisites, but I am not sure if the money spent on this tests are a waste; in some way they have helped us create important medicine for society. In conclusion, animal testing has contributed to treatments and cures that have and are important in today's society. Eventually, many people are against animals being used in lab experiment because of cruelty and inhumane acts done to them. Thanks to this creatures science has advanced in many ways. After the information provided by ProCon.Org, what do you think? Should scientist continue the use of animals in experiments that will help our future society--or should this act be banned and people begin searching for another way to process in science?

Patrick Nintendo’s smash hit “Pokemon GO” aims to replace real life Congratulations to Nintendo’s mobile app, “Pokemon GO”, for recently replacing “physical life” in America. The first introduction of “Pokemon GO” during the mid 2016’s saw an unprecedented amount of enthusiasm from the mobile user pool; within 3 months, 96.8 % of America’s smartphone users were playing GO for “at least 4 hours a day” commented former Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima, who has recently become elected President/ Chairman/Supreme Overlord of 193 countries with a crushing majority win, with Vatican City and Greenland being the only exceptions. Now, Nintendo, which has recently changed its name to World’s Supreme Committee, has passed laws in all of those countries to replace our physical life with Pokemon GO, yesterday on its 2nd anniversary. This act has received widespread acclaim from citizens all over the world, with a 79.9% support rate during the voting. These laws aim to completely erase our physical life, and to replace them with our virtual Pokemon GO world—24/7. “It isn’t much of a difference” said Tatsumi Kimishima, “U.S citizens on average played this game 17 hours a day the year before these laws were passed, so they won’t really feel a lot different. We’re basically adding in the sleeping time.” The laws are expected to be finished being deployed in 6 months. In the beginning, people were afraid the Pokemon GO would hook people up and not put them down, causing a “collapse in society and an end to humanity”, one extremely fervent supporter of the BAN GO LET'S GO movement commented (she is currently missing after police found her empty car); instead, the opposite effect happened. Because everybody was so hooked up into GO, violent crime rates decreased by an astounding 89%; the main cause of the remaining murders were “he stole my Squirtle”(62%), “he hacked my game”(12%), and “how the hell did his Eevee one shot my Dragonite”(17%); the amount of car accidents decreased greatly (as did car sales), although there was the slight boost in the number of people who accidently fell out of a window (902 cases more than last year, which had 37). Even WHO, who spent 2016 worrying about the effects on brain cells that GO might have, admitted that because of greatly decreasing travel rates, the outbursts of pandemics have nearly stopped happening. There were a few downsides after GO came out, such as a 90% drop rate from school, a 90% drop rate for teachers, unemployment rates reaching 87% and about 212,000 cases of people forgetting to eat and starving themselves to death worldwide, but the happiness rating went from a 62% to a whooping 98% during the 2 years of GO. “I was a small little farmer, selling people carrots and potatoes.” said Henri Henrico, age 32 a week ago “Then I found Pokemon GO on my daughters phone, and BAM—I became the most respected carrot seller in the entire continent of Pokemon!!” (Food production has stopped nearly entirely since last year, but

WHO states that a bowl of nacho chips, used correctly, can nourish one for 18 months, so no reports of famine have come in as of late.) This rightful belief that the world of virtual Pokemon is happier than our own society is the one of the reasons the laws are being passed, so we can COMPLETELY ERADICATE our own sad world, and build a greater, better version under the compassionate, guiding hand of Nintendo.

The new laws are created with good intents, said Nintendo. After Pokemon GO came out, there has a steady decrease in working activity; production rates have nearly rolled to a stop, which Nintendo blames mostly on inadequate infrastructure. However Nintendo fairly admits that Pokemon GO “is a small obstacle in getting work done”. Nintendo—and Times—believes that the only way to increase productivity in what is within Nintendo’s limits is by melding the virtual GO world with the physical one, so people can harvest wheat while they look out for Rattata!!! No longer will people be only limited to two hands that can only do one thing at a time; you no longer need to keep your fun open on buzz 24/7! The new laws use the most advanced technology man has to offer (before 2016 of course, scientific work recently grinded to a halt), and as of next week, every man, women, and wanna-be-a-Pikachu child will be equipped with a pair of VR goggles. These goggles well be required to be worn 24/7, and any disobeyer will be “punished severely”, says World’s Supreme Committee, (They have not yet specified the exact punishment, but they say it probably will have something to do with “duct tape, toothpicks, tasers, clawhammers and Coke”) The VR goggles will be interconnected to the “Cloud”, which is now also controlled by Nintendo; thanks to previous attempts by world governments to “digitize” everything, and the new generations “incredible reliance on the virtual world” (Says WHO), this transformation into the “virtual paradise”, as stated by Nintendo, will require “minimum effort; complete immersion is expected to happen in half a generation”. Everything will become digitized; thanks to Google Earth’s incredible accuracy and Google Maps incredible tracking abilities, and also virtually every item having a QR code, the only major difference (excluding sudden lag spikes and Wi-Fi loss which will result in temporary blindness and/or permanent brain damage) will be added Pokemons. Nintendo has also required the mandatory use of “Neuro Suits”, a full body skin-tightened suit woven with signal transmitters that make the wearer feel exactly what they need to feel; touching a Pokemon will actually result a stop in your movement, Charmanders burns and Squirtles wet. “The feels” will be a result of a combination of Google Maps tracking system and the Cloud’s Pokemon Spawn/Tracking System (PSTS), which is controlled by Nintendo. “It’s amazing what technology can do” said Mark Averick, a post office worker, “It’s going to make life so much better! I ordered a pair of VR goggles early just so I could be ahead of everybody else.” There are dissidents though. Out of the 20.1% who are against the new laws, 85% of them fear that melding the virtual and physical world will force them to start

working again; Nintendo has promised a distribution of one bowl of nacho chips per each nonworking person per 18 months. 13%, mostly educated college graduates, worry about the technical issues concerning the failure of tracking devices and the half-a-centimeter margin of error Google Earth has; Nintendo has promised that it will be their first priority to fix these issues once life gets going again. A tiny minority, 1.5% out of the 20.1%, worry that Nintendo will easily be able to control everything once they finish the distribution of the Neuro Suits and VR goggle come out. Nintendo’s CEO replied “This fear is totally unjustified. Nintendo has never lied, and never will; our Neuro Suits and VR goggles will only be used for the common good. Nintendo is totally fair and democratic; anyone who shows doubts towards this will go through forced reeducation and hard labor to see the love Nintendo brings.” These dissidents will not stand in the way of progress, Times believes. Nintendo will guide us into a better, virtual future. Charles Castro, Mikey Singer and Jon Chentouf contributed reporting

Charles Congress Passes New Legislation: Wealthy Individuals are No Longer Required to Follow the Law Updated July 8, 2016 3:00 p.m. ET WASHINGTON - On Thursday, the new legislation was signed and approved by the president after an unanimous vote in the Congress. This is one of the first significant efforts by lawmakers to get rid of useless and redundant laws passed in a time that is not relevant to the modern society anymore. The overwhelming support of the law, backed by eager lobbyist and sponsors, shows the readiness of the Congress to make change. “We are a democracy. We should be doing this a long time ago — to listen to the voices of the people: the important people. The federal government has been holding us back for long enough,” Senator Tim Cassidy, one of the Bill’s major supporter, commented.

According to the Senate, the old laws will simply become suggestions for the upper %1.

Economists forecast no major change to the current economy in the United States. Many have been speculating a huge leap in GDP growth, creating billions of wealth. Some enthusiastic economists have even suggested that the new law will make U.S. overtake China again as the biggest economy. “The worst case scenario is some lawyers for big corporations and some professional lobbyist going out of business; however, this problem can be easily mended by the huge boost in economy,” says Dr. Michael Williams, PhD., an economics professor in the University of Chicago, “The rich can now invest more in capital, driving the aggregate supply up, and thus lowers the price level and increases the GDP. The new unregulated investment will also create job opportunities and attract the poor, which — I mean — who depends on the rich.” As for the people who are directly affected by the law, their reactions are generally surprised, but with different reasons. James Lee, who has a net worth of over fifteen billion U.S. dollars and the most significant amount of lobbyist involved in the process, remarked, “I didn’t even know my subordinate was working on that! I guess I’ll let my secretary take care of the firing of my lawyer, a great guy by the way; I love him — what’s his name again? Anyways, we can finally save billions of dollars to be used on more productive projects such as clearing forests and building a golf course without restriction. Or charity to poor people who can’t live without us.” !1 0

On the other hand, the oil giant Mario Ruckris tweeted in response to the new legislation, “Wait, isn’t this a thing already?” with Justice Stephen Ginsburg from the Supreme Courtreplying, “Seconded. I thought this was the case a long time ago - SG.” The people heavily involved on the passing of this new legislation are pleased with these comments, citing them as examples of proof of the antiquity of the old law system. However, a few people raised concerns over the functionality of the society. The police department were quick to address these people. A State Police Department affiliated sociologist, Dr. Kennedy Vladeck, PhD., stated, “There should be no disruption to the functionality of the society; there’s no reason to worry at all. According to multiple studies, wealthy individuals tend to have better morals, more positive attitudes towards life, and greater optimism than the lower income earners. They were less likely to commit violent crimes when laws still apply to them, and we see no indication of that behavioral pattern changing now.” “And as an American citizen,” he added as an afterthought, “I believe this is another great step towards the ideal of freedom, based on the idea of America according to our founding fathers.”

Gaby Sleep Is For The Weak You can’t sleep? Do you find yourself being too “busy”? Are you interested in not sleeping at all? If so, you’re going the right path! This city goes from restaurants that never close, to a load of nightlife hours. Mustard taxis driving back and forth 24/7, nightclubs with the music volume raised at its peak, markets that only have a sign lighting “open”. This is, the city that never sleeps— New York City. According to Meredith Grey from Grace Mercy West Hospital, “sleeping for all human beings is a type of disorder that will cause higher stress, less About concentration, and an increase in mistakes. ” About 60% of people worldwide, 60% of people have preferred to keep their eyes and ears open. In this case, who needs sleep worldwide, have when you have a whole city filled with glowing lights: blue, green, yellow, red preferred to keep from every skyscraper, every book office, every house, every bridge. The their eyes and bright lights that will never shut off. ears open. As of 2 months ago, on May 17 2016, sleeping including all types of furniture to sleep on, have been banned. This issue was decided by Meredith Grey who “proved a strong argument on how the world presents you delightful things that there is no point in sleeping.” We’re humans; we love sleeping, but in places like these, there’s no such thing as that. For weeks and weeks, the government and inventor of this idea, have discussed what type of solutions to create for those who sleep walk while getting from one place to another. Luckily, !1 1

spraying water stations have been invented thanks to George O’Malley. “These machines have a sensor that is able is sense human beings that are falling asleep while transporting from one place to another, stated George O’Malley while being interviewed. When the machine detects yawning— whether from kids, mothers, fathers, dogs, cats, etc. — it sprays water and you immediately wake up. It’s one of the most known strategies beings used in this city, in the moment, according to 75% of the New York City people. Not so long ago, Izzie Stevens has come up to adding caffeine to all types of drinks: sodas, gatorades, lemonades, teas, even WATER! In fact, a 30-hour energy booster stand was placed in every corner of the whole city. A stand that never closes. A stand that will hype you up. A stand that will make your life easier. A stand that won’t just wake you up, but change the world. Derek Shepherd interviewed a person out of the city — non-american — and was asked, “what do you think of the New Yorker’s who have decided to ban sleeping?” “Well, who doesn’t want to sleep? I mean only those who think they can do “everything.” stated the unknown non-american. In addition, as of a month ago, Starbucks became the most popular cafe market! “It took over absolutely everything!” announced Preston Burke, “coffees here, there everywhere! Cappuccinos here, there, everywhere!” Besides that, a crucial, yet pleasing law was created on June 22, 2016 for those human beings who love sleeping, “The illegal house to sleep.” In other words, if found sleeping — drooling — those people were sent to this old brick house where the only thing non existence was sleeping. Now don’t waste your time trying to find the perfect city for those who don’t sleep, join the city that never sleeps. The city that is lit just like the people who never sleep: the perfect city for you and me.

Lucy Currently, the united states is split in three different views on the controversial topic of abortion. 29% of the population believe abortion should be legal under any circumstance, 50% believe it should be legal only under certain circumstances, 19% believe abortion should be illegal under all circumstances, and 2% of the population declared that they do not have an opinion. While it is quite obvious that the woman is the most affected by abortion, many other people are concerned in the decision to legalize abortion. The medical community — including surgeons, primary care physicians, and gynecologists — is also involved in the process because they are the ones who have to keep you healthy. Also, social workers who need to take care of the unwanted children who could not be aborted. Considering all these different perspectives, it is clear that abortion should be legal. If the woman wants an abortion, she should be allowed to have one. It is her body after all. The medical community just wants to keep the women healthy, and if they get infections from illegal abortions — and keep it a secret — it can lead to further complications and even death. Many unwanted children struggle with mental illness and do not live a positive life. Through all these points, it becomes clear that abortion needs to remain legalized. Abortion is currently a very controversial topic in the U.S. because it has to do with the life and death of an unborn child. In 1973, the Supreme Court voted on the Roe v. Wade case, and ultimately decided to legalize abortion. According to ProCon.org, “The 7-2 decision stated that the Constitution gives ‘a guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy,’ and that ‘This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.’” In other words, the constitution allows abortion because it says so in the constitution. The constitution clearly states that it should be the woman’s choice whether or not to end her unborn baby's life. This is important because it shows that the Supreme Court justifiably voted to legalize abortion, because of what was written in the constitution almost 200 years ago. The United States is supposed to follow what is ratified in the constitution, an abortion is allowed according to the constitution. This is one of the main reasons that the Supreme Court voted to legalize abortion. The Supreme Court is surely right about this decision because, as they may not be aware, recent studies have shown that since the Roe v. Wade case in 1973, over 53 million legal abortions have been performed, which shows how useful this law is. Since abortion was legalized, women who needed it have utilized their new right to the fullest, as opposed to dangerous illegal abortions. Nonetheless, many people still considered abortion as morally wrong even after it was legalized. Opposers to abortion firmly regard the practice as bestial and heartless. But it turns out that the developing infants do not feel pain. According to ProCon.org, “A 2005 University of California at San Francisco study said fetuses probably can't feel pain until the 29th or 30th week of gestation. Abortions that late into a pregnancy are extremely rare and are often restricted by state laws.” In other words, when a pregnant woman gets an abortion, the fetus cannot feel it, because their nerves have not yet developed enough to feel pain during the abortion procedure. This is significant because it proves that during the procedure, the unborn baby will not feel its removal, so it will be okay. One of the main reasons people are opposed to abortions is because it is “cruel” to the fetus, but if the fetus doesn’t feel pain, then it is not technically an inhumane procedure. Plus, to prevent pain in fetuses, most states don’t allow late abortions, which is more reassuring for women who are going to get abortions. UCSF’s theory that early fetuses cannot feel pain is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of why people are opposed to abortion. If the opposers !1 5

knew about this study, their views may be changed. Many people do not agree with legalized abortion because they believe the fetus is in pain, so this new view is very relevant. On the other hand, the bible prohibits killing other humans. Science considers a fetus “human” after it is viable, or after birth. In the bible, as soon as the baby is conceived, God notices it, meaning it is human. The Epistle of Barnabas complicates matters further when it states "You shall love your neighbor more than your own life. You shall not slay a child by abortion. You shall not kill that which has already been generated.” The Bible’s point is that abortion is wrong. The sixth commandment states that “Thou shalt not kill.” The Bible also considers humans “alive” from the moment that they are conceived, and therefore does not allow the killing of fetuses. Although this point may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today’s concern over pro-choice or pro-life. People are against abortions because you terminate the baby’s life. Pro-life supporters believe that each child could become something great, and that the un-born child is stolen from that opportunity to make a positive change in the world. By focusing on the Commandments and preserving of life, the Bible overlooks the deeper problem of unfit parents. Yes, abortion does mean the termination of a life, but an unwanted pregnancy can lead to many other problems. An unwanted pregnancy leads to an unwanted child, and unwanted children have a higher risk of domestic violence, maternal depression, and a lower level of education. Moreover, many people before 1973 got illegal abortions. As one could imagine, this is very dangerous. In fact, in the 1960’s, around 5,000 women died annually in the United States due to illegal abortion. According to the National Abortion Federation, “In the years before Roe v. Wade, the estimates of illegal abortions ranged as high as 1.2 million per year.” Basically, the NAF is saying that before abortion was legalized in 1973, people were still getting illegal abortions. And it wasn’t just a few people. 1.2 million abortions per year is around 3,300 abortions per day, which means that illegal abortions were very common. These findings have For as important consequences for the broader domain of legalizing abortion. It proves long as anyone that even if abortion isn’t legal, people will still be doing it. It is better to have can remember, the abortions on the health record, and performed safely than in some back alley society has been where infections are rampant. Even if abortion is illegal, many people will be preaching “safety unsafely performing these operations on themselves or others. Those unfamiliar first,” and this with this school of thought may be interested to know that it basically boils applies to every down to safety. For as long as anyone can remember, society has been preaching situation, “safety first,” and this applies to every situation, including abortion. If abortion is on medical records, it will make all other procedures much more safer. Also, including many of the “back alley doctors” who perform abortions do not have access to abortion. safe drugs or clean tools, which can cause easier manifestation of infection. The evidence above clearly shows why abortion must remain legalized for the safety of the women, children, and society. If abortion is illegal, death and crime rates will go up, plus it would be highly ineffective in preventing abortion in total. Abortion isn’t pleasant or enjoyable, but sometimes it is necessary. Yes, it does involve the killing of undeveloped babies, but one must think about what will end up happening to the children if they are not allowed to be aborted. They will most likely have some form of mental trauma if they are put up for adoption — A piece of their brain will wonder why they weren’t wanted. If they are kept by the mother and/or father, they may suffer abuse, lack of breastfeeding, lower education, and overall less love. Opposers

of legalized abortion need to consider what is best for the child, and for the mother. Although abortion does involve the loss of a life, it also involves the reduction of suffering for the child in many circumstances.

Ameika I caught myself staring in the mirror more frequently after that September night. That night I was puzzled about a complex topic. After seeing a post on one of my favorite social media websites. “It is proven that you see yourself ten times prettier than you actually are,” were the bold white words on a lavender background. This picture stuck with me even though I had already seen something similar. Some months before seeing that post, I had seen the same sentence, but it said “uglier” instead of prettier. The shock of how different these pictures were sparked my curiosity. I immediately researched to find the answer. I found nothing that clearly justifies each statement. Not finding an answer caused me to think--”doesn’t one’s beauty depend on their perception of themself?” “How you carry yourself is how people are going to see you. Approach people as a person not by how you look.” Yassine, CTY student. Perception of any given object, place, or idea can change just as fast as they “Beauty are made. Imagine laying on the summer grass on a hot day looking up at is no quality in the clouds. You see a puffy cloud that reminds you of the Pillsbury things themselves: It Doughboy. Your friend sees a blob of nothingness. Why is this? Why exists merely in the mind does every human not perceive the same way? The clouds can be a which contemplates representation of how different our perceptions are based on previous them; and each mind sights and experiences.“The mind sees what it chooses to see,” Da Vinci perceives a different Code. beauty.” David In a Dove commercial there was a professional sketch artist. His job for the Hume. commercial was to draw the women that spoke to him only from the way they described themselves. He sat with a canvas and pencil sketching the image while a curtain separated him and the subject. The women seemed to describe themselves in a negative way: pointing out--what they believed to be--their flaws, the wrinkles, the scars, the blemishes, and the annoyances of their hair. The second part of the commercial was the sketch artist drawing the same women, but from the descriptions from people that just recently met them. The descriptions from the people exemplified their beauty and were more positive. The women’s flaws were described in a better light, even as “nice eyes that lit up as she spoke.” It is accurate to say we all view things differently. A certain word can annoy a person without affecting others. You can find a person attractive while another person finds him or her unattractive. We all see the world and ourselves differently--from different angles. It is shocking to think our perception of ourselves is different than how others see us. That brings up the question of can our reflections be accurate? We have never seen ourselves like others see us. We have never taken a look at ourselves. We have never met ourselves. All we have done is

seen reflections of what we look like. The out of body experience of meeting yourself is something we will never know. Still we tend to look to others for our reflections which can be misleading. “Beauty is no quality in things themselves: It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind perceives a different beauty.” David Hume, Scottish philosopher. Hume lived in the 18th century and came to this realization that still applies to this day. As Hume pointed out, each mind perceives a different beauty. A trait about yourself is beautiful even though you may not believe so. Most people who have self confidence issues are not aware of the fact that most people focus on their own flaws more than anything else. Your ideas about what others think of you affect your self concept--your own beliefs about who you are. Psychologists call these thoughts our “metaperceptions”--the ideas we have about others’ ideas about us--a cause for how we view ourselves. As an adolescent Yassine struggled with his confidence. He made conclusions about himself based on what others told him--his metaperceptions. He recalled a story of him and his mother looking at old photos. “Yassine you look the same,” his mother uttered as they gazed at the photograph. He thought “I was quite skinny back then.” His mother saw no flaws or imperfections. It is clear that we point out flaws that no one sees. Have you ever been worried that everyone sees the whitehead on your forehead? Have you ever been so worried you asked a friend? Have they ever replied with “what am I looking at?” or “I don’t see anything?” “I am my own biggest critic. Before anyone else has criticized me, I have already criticized myself.” C. Joybell C. As to the question of do we perceive ourself ten times uglier or prettier, there is no--absolute, concrete,exact--answer. It is just how you see it. We have the authority to define ourselves as beautiful because we choose what we want to see. Call yourself beautiful more often. Wear clothes that make you feel good. Be with people that make you feel better about yourself. Do anything that benefits your life.

Iacob Animal testing has been a controversial topic for so long because it involves the suffering of animals. There are benefits to testing substances on animals. Animal testing has been involved in breakthroughs in medical science, which has minimized greatly the number of incidents like –let’s say– polio. However, there are some downsides to animal testing. Of course it would mean that animals may suffer for knowledge. Also, just because the animals are almost closely related to humans, that doesn’t mean that humans will react the same way animals do, and vice-versa. Let’s talk about the benefits of animal testing. The website, Procon.org, says that “the California Biomedical Research Association states that nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.” Basically, the CBRA is saying that almost every cure that has been discovered came from results in animal testing. Testing animals has helped scientists find a cure for many dangerous diseases, like polio, and helped us reduce what we now call

old diseases. Sure, I agree that animal testing has helped make breakthroughs, but the thing is that animal testing isn’t very accurate. We may not be getting very accurate results when it comes to animal testing. In fact, Procon.org mentions “some chemicals that are harmful to animals prove valuable when used by humans.” Basically, they are saying that things that are harmful to animals –like how chocolate is harmful to animals– are probably not relevant to us humans. The fact that some things that are harmful to animals aren’t harmful to humans could make animals results slightly or very inaccurate. It’s the same situation vice-versa, where if a chemical isn’t harmful to an animal, it could actually be harmful to humans. To put it another way, they don’t react the same way as humans do. They are right about chemicals being harmful to animals, but not to humans. It’s just that we don’t really have many alternatives to be able to test without life forms. Procon.org states “...even the most powerful supercomputers are unable to accurately simulate the workings of complex organs such as the brain.” What they are saying is that organs are very hard to simulate on a supercomputer. Because of that, we can’t really test simulations on supercomputers, so we rely on animal testing to be able to help us test medicines. Animal testing, however, is still proven to be inaccurate. I would actually say ‘fatally inaccurate’.

Indeed, chemicals that hurt animals might not hurt humans, but chemicals that might hurt humans might not hurt animals.

“94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials.” This statistic found in procon.org means to say that most drugs that work in animals didn’t work at all for humans. This further proves that chemicals in animals don’t react the same way as humans, despite having the same set of organs. Indeed, chemicals that hurt animals might not hurt humans, but chemicals that might hurt humans might not hurt animals. Many medical drugs that could have saved so many lives, and may have even been a cure to cancer, could have been scrapped just because animals had a bad reaction to it. But, what if it would actually have been beneficial to humans, and that the ‘harmful’ chemicals wouldn’t really have had an effect on humans? I’m not really on both sides about animal testing. Animal testing has been involved in medical breakthroughs. Animal testing isn’t the most accurate way to test out life-saving drugs and possible cures to possibly awful conditions, or diseases. There is no accurate alternative to be able to simulate a possible cure. Even animal testing isn’t as accurate when it comes to testing for cures. Animal testing, to some, is considered to be inhumane since we have to torture animals to see results. It’s also considered to be inaccurate because animals aren’t humans, they’re just animals. No matter how related animal’s DNA are to human’s, it still isn’t accurate enough to be able to simulate how a human would react to its effects.

JULY 14, 2016

Jon The day has been announced. July 4th is the day the laws will change. July 4th is the day the world will change. July 4th is the day life will change. Exercising will be banned forever. Finally, all the extremely fit Americans will stop making the rest of the world feel bad about themselves. According to Gary Aaron, CEO of Weight Gain Inc., 89% of all Americans go for a daily run. But the upcoming law states that all transportation must be with hover chairs; this means that we will say goodbye to walking, running, biking etc. Disney’s Wall-E has successfully predicted the future, and the ultimate goal is for all Americans to be fat, as opposed to what they are now—skinny. Questions have arose regarding financial concerns to purchase hover chairs, so a new law was instilled to help those that cannot afford hover chairs, a law that allows citizens to roll to move. This idea is projected to be just as successful because rounder, fatter people tend to roll more efficiently. Some people are saying that rolling may be a form of exercise, but this law also states that those who roll must roll under the speed limit: 5 miles per hour. President Barack Obama spoke in an interview on this situation yesterday. When asked why this law was instilled, Obama retorted that “citizens of the United States will largely benefit from this law. For example, in the winter, the fat will act as blubber to keep us, Americans, warm.” He also implied that fat people are safer—when punched, it will hurt much less than a skinny person. Their health will be saved, as physical pain will be reduced. Finally, Obama touched on a subject that suggests that the United States of America will create new, stronger relationships with the rest of the world. Because the rest of the world’s average weight is 193.4lb, when Americans gain weight, they will be more relatable. The American average, as of now, is 137lb. According to the governor of New Jersey, there will be many societal benefits. He claims there will be more job opportunities after this law. These include professional actors and eaters. A new reality TV show, known as The Biggest Gainer, stars random people and sees who can gain the most weight. The winner gets money and a yearly supply of free steaks. Next, this law is supposed to create a more egalitarian society. Because now everyone will be fat, skinny people

CTY: BRISTOL, RI

won't be made fun of now. Before, those who were not fat were criticized for their body shape; but now, everyone will need treated equally. Finally, this law is expected to push the United States to be one of these strongest countries in the world. If everyone can gain so much weight, the U.S is expected to set the bar for weight gained. Astronomer Coby Flitcher spoke on this matter earlier today, “this law will change the universe-literally. I had recently been studying the solar system, and its gravity is about to completely change.” He says that we can say goodbye to the heliocentric theory; we can say goodbye to the geocentric theory: we now approach a new era: the Americocentric theory. Everything is expected to revolve around Earth, the United States to be precise. The United States will benefit from the sales too. Stores are projected to make 200% more money from candy alone. Hershey is already developing a new candy bar, known as “Fat Truffle”. It is expected to be the most grossing item on the whole market. Additionally, pharmacies will make an extra 400% from new drugs that help you gain weight. With that said, it seems everyone benefits from those set of new laws. But that's not the only aspect of normal life that is going to change. New definitions of words will arise. These include “working out” and “diet”. Working out is now at buffets of which you gain weight. The more weight you gain, the better you are so working out. Diets are to gain excess weight quickly. Dietary foods include extra-fat ice cream, super-sized hamburgers, and chocolate-covered fried chicken. New definitions will be added, and people will be needed to change the words in dictionaries, which opens up job opportunities. But one concept will have a completely different name--the United States will now be named McDonald’s. The new president, Ronald McDonald, spoke about the new law, “French fries will now be used as worldwide currency and grease will be used as worldwide shampoo and soap.” America's utopia is officially here. James Morrison, inventor of the FatBit, strongly suggested that “this new law will cause the nation to become powerful again.” He claims, “July 4th should be made into a national holiday… Known as Oversize Day.”
