CARBON Las Vegas, Nevada
CONCEPT
A luxury hotel lobby was created by combining traditional Parisian features and modern elements. The idea was based on the structural form of carbon and its woven properties.

CHALLENGES
Traveling to Paris for this studio class gave me a broader, more abstract view of the field of design. It pushed my design creativity in ways I had never experienced before. I had the opportunity to view a vast number of products available through Maison et Objet. In addition, I learned how to simplify and make selections that worked well with the CARBON theme.

WHAT INSPIRES ME?
The overall goal for this grand passageway was to replicate the historical Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. I did not want to simply create an exact replica of the space, but rather create a contemporary and modern version that would fit “CARBON”. While simplifying the overall wall molding and marble motifs, I was inspired by Christian Bérard’s painted wall designs of faux architectural detail panels at the Institut Guerlain. As I create most of my design spaces, the world of fashion typically inspires me. For example, when designing the overall floor for the main access path, my initial idea was influenced from Versailles. Since this hotel is located in Las Vegas, it was critical that it have an element of uniqueness and a memorable “wow” factor. The inspiration created by the woven Cole Haan Genevieve tote, added the touch of glamour and luxury I was looking for. Thus, I designed a black patent leather floor tile that sparkles in the light.

CARBON STANDARD Las Vegas, Nevada
CONCEPT
This standard side of the hotel is based on the carbon form of graphite. The reception and guest rooms incorporate masculine, dark hues, with pops of bright pure colors.
CHALLENGES
The goal was to adapt and reuse the existing structure of Echelon Place in Las Vegas. Working in an exquisite corpse project along with my peers, we collectively agreed to 9 words that represented CARBON. Working on separate parts of the hotel in secret challenged me to become more confident in my individual design style.

CARBON EXCLUSIVE Las Vegas, Nevada
CONCEPT
This exclusive private side of the hotel is based on the diamond form of carbon. The reception and guest room areas are meant to feel light, airy, and more luxurious. Glimpses of pure color, with a diamond-like richness, adds an element of prestige.
CHALLENGES
Adapting and reusing the existing structure of Echelon Place in Las Vegas was the main goal for this space. Through my work in the exquisite corpse studio, the 9 words that represented CARBON were incorporated within my design. Working on separate parts of the hotel in secret challenged my creative style even further.

PURFOODS Ankeny, Iowa
CONCEPT
Taking inspiration from the PurFoods company and how their food is presented, the goal is to create a work environment for all to enjoy. Since their food is presented on glassware, we used the process of glass blowing as a metaphor for all aspects of the corporate environment.
CHALLENGES
Collaborated in a group with the help of Herman Miller representatives and Pigott. Purfoods wanted to create a new headquarters that was inviting, promoted communication, and most importantly client friendly.

Although the apartment is very small in size, it has a large wall with five windows, providing an abundance of natural light. Light rays allow darker and lighter tones of color to be cast across the space. Repetition is created when the eye is drawn toward the diagonal lines across the room.
