HOSPITALITY
STEAP & SIP DESIGN INTENT:
Developing a concept from a light fixture entirely made up of a recycled materials, and being able to bring that idea into designing a restaurant. Encouraging sustainability within a design process and implementing the importance of it to the users. SOLUTION:
Creating a restaurant and study area based on the concept of recycled tea bags. The light fixture is constructed with overlapping tea bags that were steeped and emptied, developing a naturally stained orange. The color gives a welcoming environment of warmth and calmness, balancing the tea with it’s best friend of lemon and honey.

PROCESS:
Individual tea bags are emptied and dried in an overlapping staircase pattern that wraps around a wooden rim for support. The piece takes an organic shape based on the flow and movement of the tea bags. The color is a natural dye from the steeping process of the tea. LIGHT OFF:

STENCIL:
The metal stencil is designed based from the theme of the restaurant. It is carved in the shape of lemons with leaves, which is a tea’s best friend.

STAMP WALLPAPER:
A 3D object that was developed from the program Modo. The goal was to print a stamp from a 3D printer, and develop it through our design process. The 3D lemon print was used as a stamp to test different prototypes of wallpapers. The piece was then carried out through our restaurant design.

LIGHTING DESIGN
PLEATED DESIGN INTENT:
Choosing a microscopic image of our choice to develop a line, contrast, component, and shadow drawing. Being able to find inspiration within the shapes, forms, and colors within the drawing to establish a light fixture design concept. SOLUTION:
With the choice of a microscopic image of acetylsalicylic acid and melted sulfur, also known as aspirin, the concept idea took part from the color, the geometric layers, as well as the bubble forms. The shapes were used as guidelines the create ripple cuttings that folds inward and outward to act as a 3 dimensional shape within the light fixture. This pendant lamp fixture is made from 48 x 12 white plastic sheet, plexiglass, and trans color sheets for the interior.

PROCESS:
Starting with the original image to propose a line, contrast, component, and shadow drawing. The four drawing shows form and depth when separated, allowing the design to be developed through the shaped and solids. Creating this outline of geometries that were then cut in a linear line through the center of the form to create depth when it is folded inward and outward.

TENANT IMPROVEMENT
TWITTER DESIGN INTENT:
A tenant improvement project with the given two floors, 38,000 sq. foot space. Providing a full space and furniture plan throughout the design. Being able to analyze the company Twitter, and implementing their mission statement, “give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly without barriers within the design concept. SOLUTION:
Providing a work space with no limitation of space, privacy, and comfort. Carrying the mission statement and implementing a safe environment for everyone to work comfortably and share their ideas. Trying to balance a share between both collaboration and private areas to give the users an option based on their comfort.
MISSION STATEMENT:
“give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly without barriers”

Twitter’s space layout is a safe space, allowing everyone to feel comfortable to share their thoughts and ideas through collaboration and teamwork. Most open lounges are free for everyone, providing very little privacy to encourage their mission of freedom and no barrier. Focus rooms are provided for those who wants privacy when needed, alone time is respected and understood at Twitter. Workspace are open to collaboration as well, utilizing every space possible when sharing ideas to their colleagues or peers.

THE TOY DESIGN INTENT:
Observe and learn about a building of our choice by analyzing the structure of the interior and exterior, focusing on the type of audience, inspecting the traffic flow, and defining the purpose of the space. Using the research to develop a design concept of an architectural program using the inside outside method. SOLUTION:
The Tech Museum is a hands on educational space for both children and adults. I developed a concept of a human size architectural toy implements 5 form of plays: sit, rotate, climb, slide, and hide. The program taWrgets all users including it being ADA compliant. This toy brings the outside inside, giving the user a unique experience.
