Paper at Kroonpress

Paper is the most important part of a print product. Paper production consumes a lot of energy and other resources which is why we pay attention to every mill our paper comes from

The paper used at Kroonpress depends on the customers’ wishes. For daily and weekly newspapers we use newsprint paper that contains recycled and virgin fibre, but most of the magazine paper is virgin fibre paper, which, so far, has proved to display superior print quality. Our paper suppliers are predominantly situated in Northern Europe.

Paper is a climate issue mainly because of the energy that is needed to produce paper

Many paper manufacturers use electricity and heat that is produced from fossil fuels like coal and oil. However, an increasing trend, especially in Northern Europe, is to substitute fossil energy with locally produced bioenergy. Because biomass incineration is carbon-neutral, net carbon dioxide emissions can be decreased to minuscule amounts. Our current carbon footprint calculations don’t take this into account, as the data for all our paper providers is not available.

• Paper waste

• In 2010, a total of 27 620 tonnes of printing paper passed through our printing presses. Not all of it was converted into products –culled paper, paper scraps and newspaper waste were collected and all of it was transferred to recyclers.
