THESIS:-GONDWANA MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTRE GOND TRIBE MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTER In order to preserve promote and propagate the living culture of the tribes from Vidharbha and in particular those from Gondwana land .The goverment of Maharashtra has Decided to established "GONDWANA MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTRE" in Nagpur NEED:- Before Bhoslas Nagpur was built by Tribal king Gond Raje Bakht Buland Shah. The Vidarbha region of Maharashtra State consists of 11 districts having a large, proportion of tribal population. Gadchiroli (38.75%), Chandrapur (19.70%) and Yavatmal (21.47%) districts have a larger percentage of tribal population as compared to other districts. In these districts, Gonds, Pardhans and Kolam are major tribes followed by Korku and others. Gonds, who are numerically predominant, are a part of Gond tribe accounting for one of the major tribal groups in India followed by Mundas. Traditional knowledge of handicrafts among Gonds in general and among Gonds of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts in particular, attracts attention. An attempt has been made to present the traditional knowledge and skills, specially related to woodcraft and bamboocraft of Gond tribes of Vidarbha region. But hardly few people would know about this.

The vernacular forms for building are those that have existed in the region in their primitive forms, as a sloping roof surface to bear rainfall, a circular house form to combat cyclonic winds, a mud roof that keeps out the heat of the sun, or an internal courtyard that makes the shaded open space. Changes have been made by introduction of alternative building materials. Many new constructions do not integrate to the local environment and social context which otherwise cause serious damage to the environment. The cost of maintenance and acute shortage of skilled craftsmen are also responsible for loss of rich architectural heritage of the region. It doesn’t matter if you look at New York , London , Beijing or any part of world the building look and functions the same way. If all our building look same ,How can any one be inspired by them? I asked myself questions: “What are the strength of local building? What is local materials? what are traditional building methods?” The art, architecture and tradition of tribal settlement are great indigenous vernacular expression of the diverse cultures of India. Tribals have through their efforts over thousand of years created rich and colorful styles of vernacular architecture responding to local environment The tribals in central India have simplest lifestyle with rich culture still untouched by modernity and tradition as old as their origin. In my thesis I tried to design a museum which will connect the tradition and modernity and give visitor a experience learning and not just a place where things were just displayed. As well as to give a sustainable development to the area and the community .
