Halloween Events Please Holiday Revelers Parks and Recreation satisfied a community craving for high-spirited Halloween fun once again this year by organizing four creative and increasingly popular events. MPCC held its ninth Super Spooky Saturday on Oct. 29, with a whopping 2,500 smiling witches, pirates, cheerleaders and vampires turning out. Festivities included a Treat Trail on which kids received candy from local businesses and organizations, games, arts and crafts, face painting, a pumpkin patch for young ones, cakewalk, inflatables, and concessions by MaxDogs, which included deep-fried Oreos and caramel-apple nachos. The costume contest was amusing and entertaining as always, and a preschool games area in the center of the greenspace this year was definitely a focal point of enjoyment. The popular Haunted Walk was a graveyard smash, drawing a record 600 ticketed kids and adults who exited the ghostly venture with gaping grins. Carver’s Annual Halloween Festival on Oct. 31 also was a big success, and the gymnasium was packed with hundreds of kids, parents and grandparents in costume, with the winners of the costume contest in three age groups winning cash prizes. There were large inflatables and games including basketball and football toss and a cake walk that awarded winners entire cakes, or boxes of cupcakes or cookies. The smell of Herb Greenlee’s famous fried fish wafted through the gym, and the treats available ranged from candy to pork sandwiches. About 30 participants also converged at the MPCC pool in their Halloween outfits for the Spooktacular Pumpkin Glowstick Swim on Oct. 28. Children 10 and under bobbed for pumpkins, received their own pumpkin and had them filled with goodies. Finally, the first-ever Howl-O-Ween Pet Celebration at MPCC drew nearly 30 dogs on Oct. 20, with 20 being entered in a fun costume contest. This event had solid local sponsorship, and we look forward to this furry fun becoming an annual tradition. Kudos to staff, volunteers and everyone involved, Great job!
