The time is NOW to register for the trip to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard & Plymouth June 11-June 17, 2023. It will be a beautiful time of year to visit the beaches on Cape Cod! This trip has been a traveler favorite each time it has been offered in the past. Trip includes 6 night lodging, 10 meals, visits to Martha’s Vineyard, Hyannis, Sandwich, JFK Museum and guided tour of the Outer Cape. Please register and pay in full by April 4!
Flyers and registration forms for all upcoming trips are available at the senior services desk.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy your travels with JCSC Seniors on the Go:
1. Create a Packing Checklist – It can be easy to forget something when packing all at one time. Take the time to create a thorough list ahead of time to ensure you won’t forget anything you’ll need. Remember to add medications to your list.
2. Don’t Wait to Pack Last Minute – Don’t rush and pack right before you need to leave. Not being able to find that one item you need can be stressful. Pack the night before well ahead of time and don’t rush. Get a good night’s sleep before traveling and know you are prepared for your journey.
3. Create a Care Package – Have everything you need for an enjoyable ride at your fingertips. Pack headphones, tissues, towelettes, healthy snacks, a book, a notebook, a pen, a backup battery, sunglasses, and anything else you might find beneficial to have on hand.
4. Have Designated Areas for Your Things – Always pack your items in the same place to prevent misplacing them.
5. Remember to Charge Your Electronics before Leaving
6. Take Photos on Your Phone to Keep Track of Everything – Capture receipts right away so you don’t lose them. Take pictures of where you parked, your hotel room number, and other key details to remember.
7. Control How You React to Situations and Have a Positive Attitude –Sometimes things don’t always run smoothly on your journey. Make light of it all and don’t waste your energy getting angry about it. It’s just not worth it. You can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you respond to the situation.

COME JOIN US FOR FUN FITNESS AND FELLOWSHIP PLAYING SOFTBALL
The Tri-Cities Senior Softball League is starting its registration for the upcoming 2023 season. The league is now opened for senior men and women 55 and over who have played softball in the past and want to continue to play the game they love. You’ll be playing with others who appreciate just being out there again, catching, throwing, hitting the ball, running the bases and enjoying the camaraderie and friendships the game fosters. Our season begins in early March and lasts until early November.
We play at Winged Deer Park on the Bristol Highway. Our game is slow pitch softball with a few senior rules that help avoid collision and injuries and allow generous substitutions. We play on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 11:00 in early spring and fall and at 10:00 throughout most of the summer season. The play lasts about 2 hours and includes warm-up and stretching, batting practice and intra-league games. We try to balance teams by age when we can or divide into two games, one with younger players and the other with older ones. For those with advanced skills there are opportunities to play against other senior teams in the region and in national men’s sanctioned tournaments in the Southeast.
The cost for new players is $40 which gets you a cap and shirt and a season of play. All you need is a glove and your enthusiasm. We have a few league composite bats you can use if you don’t have one. You can find much more about us online at www.tricitiesseniorsoftball.com including a download for registration forms. You can pick up paper registrations at the Johnson City Senior Center, 510 Bert St. and pay your fee there in person or mail it in. Forms are also available at the Field Tower at the park or at the JC Park and Rec office adjoining the park.
You can contact Joe Ebarb, Director at Winged Deer Park at 423 283-5825 for more information.
Our sponsors are the Johnson City Senior Center, Johnson City Parks and Recreation, and Ballad Health which generously support our efforts to remain active and play a game we love. We hope to see you out there this season!
