Foundation News
The Johnson City Senior Center Foundation provides supplemental funding for our healthcare coordinator, Jeanne Clarke, RN; funding transport for cultural activities outside of the Tri-Cities area; providing support through the center’s Fellowship program; and funding for the Spring Forward for seniors program.
The Spring Forward for seniors provides groceries and household goods for 200-250 low-income seniors. It costs approximately $75 per senior to support this project. Would you consider supporting at least one senior or more, making a donation towards the project, becoming a corporate sponsor or participating in our “Seven Weeks of Giving”? The “Seven Weeks of Giving” will start the week of January 9, 2023. Thank you in advance for your support of our Senior Center Foundation.

We’ll have registration forms at the travel meeting, so bring your checkbook. Trip deposits are made to “Todlow Coach” and travel insurance payments are paid directly to “Travel Insured.”
Some things to note about travel:
The number of hotel rooms/travelers will be limited to 52 people and 26 rooms for the motor coach trips using Diamond Tours. Due to this limitation, the maximum number of single

rooms available on motor coach trips may be limited.
Travel insurance is optional on all trips. Should a traveler wish to purchase travel protection insurance, you must purchase the insurance directly from the insurance company. We always recommend that you review the travel insurance guidelines for the individual trips at the time you make your deposit to determine what is best for your situation.
JCSC Seniors on the Go and the Johnson City Senior Center provide information about overnight group tours to allow you opportunity to travel with your friends. You will book all group tours directly with the individual travel providers, and any questions or concerns must be directed to the travel provider. Skywatching: Seeing and Understanding Cosmic Wonders-DVD Lecture Series (All Ages)
Fridays, Beginning January 6th-February 24th 10:30-11:30am
Cost: Free
Step outside at any time of day or night, look up, and you’re bound to see a world filled with limitless wonders: majestic rainbows, dramatic cloud formations, stirring sunsets, intricate constellations, captivating solar eclipses, and even the distant planets themselves. But these and other breathtaking natural phenomena are more than just pretty objects to be admired. Rather, they’re the result of fascinating atmospheric and astronomical processes that describe right in front of you important concepts in scientific fields such as: cosmology, physics (including optics and electromagnetism), and meteorology and other atmospheric sciences.
These and other processes all too often go unappreciated by the average skywatcher. To truly understand and enjoy the wonders in the sky requires a solid understanding of the science behind where these wonders come from and how they’re formed, as well as insights into the best times and places to see them and simple equipment and other steps you can use to improve what you see at any time. This DVD is from the Great Courses Series.

Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, tax preparers and taxpayers will have the option to wear masks.
Taxpayers will have an initial intake interview with a tax counselor. Then their return will be prepared by one counselor and quality reviewed by a second counselor. A printed copy of the return will be given to the taxpayer. The preparers will E-File the returns. If the return is for a married couple, both spouses must be present for both appointments.
All volunteers are trained using IRS and AARP-VITA standards and must pass an IRS test. They can prepare all individual and joint tax returns, with a few exceptions for certain complicated returns.
