Know & Go
Updates @your Library Final Library Order for the year! If you know of something that students need in the library, let me know what it is as soon as possible and I will see what I can do. The final day for Library Services PO's to be entered is this week. There will be no more orders processed for fiscal year 2014-2015 after this date. If no requests are made, then books and eBooks will be purchased from the Printz Award List, Follett’s Most Popular Young Adult List, and YALSAs (Young Adult Library Services Association) Top 10 List as requested by teen readers.
EOC Logistics From my understanding the library will be in use for EOC testing the week of April 20th. This is actually perfect I will be out of the district most of the week for a library conference. I will not be at Fern that week, but if you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to email me. I will still be taking care of book circulation during that time. Good luck to all involved with EOC testing.

For the Science Teacher Scaling Everest is a very neat new interactive from The Washington Post. Start the journey with your students today. Larry Ferlazzo also has additional resources on blog, The Best Sites For Learning About Mount Everest
Swivl & Flipping the Library The teaching flipped model frees up time to be used interactively on problem-based learning. The classroom becomes a conversation place and home becomes the content space. Flipping the classroom provides differentiation and personalization to students based on where they are in the project process. It’s a way to extend the the classroom and resources to students outside of school. Read more about flipped classroom on digitalshift.com (School Library Journal). One device that has become a game changer for recording is the Swivl. It’s like having a personal camera man. The device helps record video naturally as you move around the room. It connects to the Bluetooth remote for smooth video capture and high-quality audio microphone. Upload video to Swivl Cloud for easy sharing, or export video to your computer to edit and distribute. If you would like to see try it out let Kim know for a demo. Thinking about Hackerspaces - Try this Angle, A Repair Cafe Curating different ways to think about hackerpaces is something that happens daily. This idea seemed perfect for those that want to have a little more structure but still want students to think outside the box to create or rather repair useful items. Check out http://repaircafe.org/ While they have a starter kit that has a cost associated with it, you may just be able to read enough about it to create your own idea as to how this might look or feel in your after school program

Convert PDFs to Google Docs As we attempt to make all curricula digital and thus make it available to all students, the idea of using PDFs was always a problem. PDFs are just not editable in most situations, and this was an issue when it came to modifying and differentiating documents. Now, with the most recent update to Google Drive capabilities are better and easier than ever to convert PDFs to a usable Google Doc. Taken from www. freetech4teachers.com
Autocrat Check out the autocrat add-on for Google Sheets. It allows the user to merge data from Google Sheets in a variety of ways. Very handy tool.
