Google Academy Information Right now we are really low in terms of the number of people registered for Google Academy. So, please consider telling your friends about the event and post the Academy and Camp flyers in strategic places in your buildings. Google Academy will be offered as a salary credit opportunity for you and teachers in your building. All the information can be found at this link (http://goo.gl/uQu8BS). As a presenter, you have the ability to earn salary credit as well. MSPLC Members and Leaders The data is in - Liz Morrison would appreciate your time in completing the online data protocol which concludes with suggestions for the future of MSPLCs in Parkway. Input (based on the data) has been gathered from principals and curriculum coordinators utilizing the same protocol. Please open the protocol PRIOR to looking at the data. The data is an email as an attachment from Bill dated Wednesday, April 22nd. If you need that data let Kim know. Liz is not looking for a "one size fits all" suggestion but ideas that will ensure the "late start" time is spent focused on the work of professional learning communities designed to make a positive difference on the academic achievement of our students.

Resource Roundup Technology, Research & Learning Resources Moments from MASL’s Spring Conference Learning about the Gateways was important to get ready for next year. They have info and trailers at their website: http://www.gatewayaward.com/the-books.html There is even a (password protected) link to Gateway quizzes, so maybe we won't need to write them. I am working on getting a password so we can take a look. Impact of Going 1:1 on school libraries I know we are not a 1:1 district, but we have added so many Chromebooks this year that sometimes it seems 1:1 for us. So I was interested in learning more. There were some changes made in: Advertising Library Services, New Programs for Faculty and Students, and Changes in Library Layout/Procedures. The handout is here: https://prezi.com/n_lzdzpxzjzv/the-impact-of/ ~ Eve "What's New in Young Adult Literature." Every book on it was read and approved by a librarian. I'm emailing the list to Kim and the high school librarians. We'll be referring to it as we make up our summer order. "Shhh...ifting Your Library: Creating a 21st Century Space," was by the Liberty, MO librarians. Their district went 1:1 and they talked about the problems it caused them: kids wanted to only read on their iPads, teachers stayed in their classrooms rather that bringing the kids to the library to work. Some of the things they did to rework their libraries: more eBooks, provided more space for kids to work in groups, movable shelving, & some libraries genrefied their collections. As we continue to modify our spaces, these are ideas we should consider. ~ Chris Makerspaces One of the hot topics at the conference was makerspaces. As I’ve had conversations, listened to webinars, and read articles there are a few main points that keep resurfacing and are common to successful Makerspaces. Those guidelines are: ● Makerspaces are all about the students...so hands off and let natural leaders rise from the various activities ● It’s a community of learners where there is no wrong answers and failure is embraced ● Risk taking is highly encouraged ● The focus is on discovery, play, and curiosity ● Makerspaces can be low tech, high tech, or anywhere in between ● Do not let physical space and location discourage the development of makerspace ~Kim Coding with Kids Liz went to a session on computer coding and is going to visit the session leader to see how she has her library arranged/organized, and how she conducts a library lesson using the makerspace stations and further discuss computer coding for next school year. Chlick here for the link to the presentation resources. ~LIz In addition to this great information shared by Eve, Chris, and Liz you can also take a look at the presentation handouts from the conference at https://masl.site-ym.com/?
