Interlibrary Loan Procedures - Needs Processing As a program we must each be diligent in keeping up with these requests so please take a look at your daily schedules and make interlibrary loan a part of your daily work so that we can provide timely resources to students across the district and helping us to meet the Parkway Mission of meeting the needs of ALL Parkway students regardless of the building that they are in. Jim has done a really good job of creating step-by-step procedures for the entire process. If you have questions, please contact him and he will help you work through your sticking points. https://sites.google.com/site/faqofdestiny/interlibrary-loan

To see the screenshot handout click here. While in Titlewave you can also see suggested items for Common Core strands, such as informational text. They can be found by logging into your account and then clicking For the Library, then Common Core State Standards. Teachers can search by curriculum tags as well by utilizing the Universal Search feature. Be sure to scroll down the page to find the ribbon that contains tags. Also note that Universal Search is still in beta, meaning that it is improving daily and the curriculum tags are being applied to the newest items first.

School Librarians Transform Learning AASL Hotlinks - January 15 The question is how do librarians transform learning in the digital age? While students have a tablets, Chromebooks, or smartphones with them at any given time, they still visit libraries for various reasons. These reasons include access to digital products, services, and guidance. The librarian of today plays a unique role in digital information management, because the physical space is an ever changing community resource where patrons come to use products. Those products include digital devices, wireless access, mobile printing, creation/production tools, and eBooks. The librarians are managing device acquisition, acquiring tools for best practice in learning, and obtaining electronic media and content to meet curriculum needs.

Library Lessons How to Be an Independent Learner In the era of BYOD and technology information it is probably worth the time to share with students how to be an independent learner. It is essential for preparing them for the future and allows them to adapt their time and effort to learning new insights and techniques.

There is a quite a variety of digital library services being offered as well. Librarians co-plan and teach lessons that focus on evaluation of sources/information, provide students with virtual reference services (via email or chat), assist users with finding relevant materials, participate with teachers in professional learning communities, provide support for media and technology use, train faculty on how to locate and evaluate digital content, respond to curriculum needs with up-to-date digital materials, and maintain relationships to maximize availability of resources. Librarians are also ensuring that patrons have the best chance to succeed by providing guidance in information and media literacy. Information online is often overwhelming and locating credible sources is difficult, therefore librarians offer support by teaching skills to select, evaluate, and use information appropriately and effectively. Librarians are providing equitable physical and intellectual access to the resources and tools required for learning in a welcoming, stimulating, and safe environment. Check out the two infographics which provide great talking points to parents, teachers, and administrators.

Thought for the New Year "We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives...not looking for flaws, but for potential." - Ellen Goodman
