Process

Milling - Images read left to right

Scale mockup to test chair height and seating angle. Acquiring White Ash lumber from Treeproducts. Measuring piece of lumber to find part origins. Marking lumber with identified part locations. Finish milling two faces, marking squared corner. Finish milling pieces, annotating end-grains with part identity. Checking parts on shop drawing, taking angle measurements to make MDF jigs. Placing parts onto shop drawing for reviewing.


Process

Joining - Images read left to right

Cutting Domino joints into parts. Test-fit front and back frames. Marking edges to cut off on seat. Seat cut to correct length. Chair assembled for reviewing. Sanding parts with incremental grit levels. Gluing together front and back frames. Gluing frames together. Applying soap flake finish.

Total Construction Time: 35 Hours Pre-Prototyping - 32” x 48” OSB Sheet (Taken from a 48” x 96” Sheet @ $14.65/sheet) = $4.88 - Scrap Lumber ~ 2 x 4 x 8 = $3.90 - 6 x 1 Drywall Screws (32) (Taken from 1 lb box @ $6.49/box) = $0.83 Total Cost = $9.61 Prototyping - 1/2 x 4 x 8 Maple Plywood Sheet ($39.70/Unit)= $19.85 - 7 BF Maple ($3.62/BF) = $25.34 Total Cost = $45.19
