Tory Burch Expands Ready-to-Wear Offering with Printed Jeans and Denim Jackets June 15, 2010
Denim is about to become a big business for Tory Burch. The designer is looking to expand her ready-to-wear product offering to help the brand move into Europe and Asia markets, and jeans are her golden ticket. The first major denim collection from Tory Burch will be released this fall and include denim leggings, a denim jacket with washable leather sleeves, high-waisted trousers, and hand-painted silver jeans. Retail prices will range from $165 to $250 for bottoms and $295 to $425 for jackets. Burch is so confident that there is room for her classic updates in the denim market, she has confirmed the category will make up 10 percent of her clothing business by the end of this year.
TORY BURCH UNVEILS DENIM LINE COMING THIS FALL0 Co
Tory Burch will be delving deeper into the denim category come fall. Burch said denim has been a part of the collection since its introduction in 2004. She acknowledged that the primary denim offering consisted of boot-cut and slim styles. Offering a more in-depth denim assortment is recognition of how strong a component denim tends to be for her customers, Burch said. Denim will become a standard part of the collection’s 11 deliveries throughout the year. Skinny and boot-cut styles have been joined by denim leggings, stretch corduroy, a Sgt. Pepper jacket, a sailor-cut style and highly detailed items such as printed denim, bottoms that have been hand-painted in silver and a jacket and a bottom that feature a washable leather. “I think printed denim is really interesting and I think our prints really translate onto denim,” Burch said. Retail prices for bottoms range from $165 to $250, and tops sell for $295 to $425. The revamped denim offerings will be carried in all the label’s branded stores in the U.S. and will be available on its Web site.

After experiencing rising popularity, Tory Burch is looking to expand her collection. “We’re looking at [denim] as a core part of our business,” said Burch, adding that denim could represent as much as 10 percent of her ready-to-wear business by the end of the year. Offering a more in-depth denim assortment is recognition of how strong a component denim tends to be for her customers, Burch said. It’s also the right time for the company to be undergoing targeted product expansion. “We want to prove ourselves in the denim world and we want to do it in the right way and at the right pace,” she said. “For us, it’s a learning process. Other details include hand-ground holes, handpainting, embroidery and whiskering. Burch also has mixed denim with other materials, such as leather and canvas. “I’ve learned a lot in the last year doing a lot of research on different fits, textures and weights,” she said. The revamped denim offerings will be carried in all the label’s branded stores in the U.S. and will be available on its Web site. Many of the brand’s wholesale customers also have picked up the line, as well as 100 department and specialty stores in Europe and Asia.
“As we all know, denim is very much part of how our customer dresses and how we all dress, so I wanted to expand on that and create more options,” Burch said.
Tory Burch's Denim Boost
Citing denim as one of her customer's most important wardrobe staple,Tory Burch is planning to add a number of denim styles and integrate it into the core of her collections. In addition to the brand's standard slim and bootcut jeans styles, Tory Burchwill soon feature denim leggings, hand-painted and printed denim, tailored jackets, stretch corduroy and washable leather (can't wait to hear more aboutthat). Constructed from about 50 percent Japanese denim, the line's prices will range between $165 to $250 for bottoms and $295 to $425 for tops. Besides simply offering more cut options in jeans, the new denim will feature exciting Burch-esque flair like painted-on metallics, mixedmedia bottoms in denim and canvas, embroidery and handweathered holes. Burch is right: Her casual-chic shopper likely wears jeans a lot (if not all the time), so we're expecting the denim to meet the expectations it'll help significantly grow the business. To go with all those cute shoes We're already pretty obsessed with all things Tory Burch, especially when it comes to her shoes. But will her new denim line compare to everything else she's done? We're going to vote most definitely yes! Tory Burch has designed some denim items in the past, but this time she's creating a full-blown denim line and we couldn't be more excited. In true Tory Burch fashion, she's thought of pretty much everything. Not only will her line be filled with all kinds of stylish jeans, but she's also come out with some more casual tops to go with those jeans. Because, you know, you wouldn't want to wear a fancy Tory top with the casual jeans. The famous designer tells StyleList, "As an American brand, denim is an important part of our collection... We have dedicated a great deal of time and attention to this expanded category. We have considered fit and comfort along with fashion-forward styles." Tory has designed everything from skinny jeans with tears to indigo-washed jeggings (jean leggings) to wide-leg sailor-cut jeans. StyleList also tells us there will be hand-painted jeans that look like Tory's signature prints!
We're always looking for that perfect-fitting pair of jeans and we're really hoping Tory Burch has them in her collection. The line is due out in July and will be available at Tory Burch stores, her website, and major department stores like Nordstrom and Saks. Jeans will start at $165 and go up to $250. Will you be checking them out? Â
