Let’s Make Ends Meet
1
This project was prepared as an introduction to Graphic Design classes. It was supposed to be done with the use of the notice: “Let’s Make Ends Meet” and a font of our choice, or painted/drawn by ourselves, but ultimately converted to vector graphic. The assumptions stated that it must at first look like a picture or a graphic and after closer examination it should be readable. I chose an expressive type of Digitall drawing. Firstly I started with some rough sketches using a very bland pencil. Then I tried to do the same thing using a graphic tablet and polishing with the use of Adobe Illustrator as well as erasing some parts of the letters, making them less obvious at first glance. Colors were chosen mostly to increase the power of expression by high contrast. It was printed on medium gramature paper and then glued onto a cardboard.

Haiku
2
Haiku is a very short Japanese lyrical form. The objective of this task for Graphic Design classes was to create a graphic representation of any chosen Haiku using a very limited amount of rocks, sticks and scraps of paper. Later we were taking photos and cleaning the work in Photoshop. The use of the depth of field in any form was forbidden, so as to make the composition very plain. My haiku is about sailing and the materials I chose for it are taken from the seaside - the stones and the sticks are nicely clean and washed by water so that they are no longer sharp. The paper was squeezed in order to make it imitate sails in the wind. The work was printed on medium gramature paper and then glued onto a cardboard.

Trzoda
3
“Trzoda” is a poem by a Polish writer Ignacy Krasicki. The title word “trzoda” means a herd and the poem is about a sheep that is outwitted by a wolf and a fox who want to get rid of a dog that guards the sheep. As a consequence, all the sheep are eaten and slaughtered by the cruel wolf and the fox. Our task for Typography classes was to make a poster that would show the main characteristics of the poem. I chose to focus on the brutality of the last verses. I experimented with paint and searched for the best way to show blood and brutality. The lower side was made with the use of printed and cut letters as well as red paint. On the right side there are letters re-drawn from the computer with the use of black ink. The hand motif was created by painting my own hand and putting it on the paper. Then all those elements were taken to Photoshop, cleaned up as well as some text was added to the image of the hand. The legibility of all text was not the most important element of our task. Therefore I decided to make some parts of the poem, the ones that did not stress the brutality, less visible. The background is a packing paper that I sometimes use for drawing. We also had to take into consideration the diagonal lines crossing the format that were supposed to be in some way our composition assumptions. Everything was made in Adobe Caslon Pro font. The work was printed on medium gramature paper and then glued onto a cardboard.

PS Logotype
4
This project was done outside of the school. It was one of my first independent typography projects. P and S are the first letters of my name. It was done using the letters from Adobe Garamond Pro font. The PS ligature stands as a very elegant form and is the main part of this work. The commas were used to highlight the form of an S letter as well as to balance the weights between the left and the right side. Done in Adobe Illustrator. Printed on the medium gramature paper, glued onto a cardboard (both black ,and white versions).

Ligatures
5
Ligatures were the second project in Lettering and Typography Classes. The challenge was to create five ligatures from the fonts we were given (Adobe Caslon Pro in my case)and then to design a word containing at least one ligature we created. I chose the word “parostatek” which means a steam powered ship. The difficulties behind this task were mostly in the small details of the letters and the decisions which parts it would be best to cut or to keep in order to make it look fitting into the style of the font. Done in Adobe Illustrator. The work was printed on medium gramature paper, and then glued onto cardboard.

Muzeum Azji i Pacyfiku
6
The work was done for the contest for The Museum of Asia and Pacific. The logotype was supposed to refer loosely to Shiva god and the legend about the creation of the world. The legend said that god Shiva had created the world through dance in a mystical ring of fire. A. Fruttiger in „Signs and Symbols: Their Design and Meaning” states that a triangle in India is the symbol of fire as well as of god Shiva himself. The font used is DejaVu Sans. All three works were printed on 150x150 medium gramature paper and glued on a cardboard.

KAWA
The logotype was made for a student organization that deals with the promotion of cultural events. The shortened name of the organization is KAWA, which in Polish stands for Coffee. The main focus of this organization was on the activities connected with the promotion of art, such as the opening of a Vernissage or promoting young painters. The logotype was made on paper with the use of ink and brush, and scanned to a computer, then vectorized in Adobe Illustrator, then cleaned. Both versions were printed on 150x150 medium gramature paper and glued onto a cardboard.

Deal Idea
8
The deal idea was the last project for The Basics of Graphic Design classes. The goal was to design a logotype and then a promotion poster for a company that creates marketing strategies for other companies. The choice of a light bulb as a sign was a very obvious choice. However, later I tried to experiment with the idea of various uses of a light bulb and wondered what the nature of this object is, what it actually does in our lives. That is how I came up with the idea of enlightening some parts of the poster in order to give it very suggestive meaning. The font I chose was Calibri. The poster was printed on 841x594mm and the logotype on 600x600mm medium gramature paper, glued onto a cardboard.

Watch 3D One of the projects for 3D Graphics classes. Our task was to choose an object by ourselves and to show it in a way as realistic as we were able to. I chose to model a watch. Although the form of a watch itself was simple, the modeling of the leather belt was a little tricky. The ultimate beauty of this object does not come straight from the model but from the materials and the use of light that enabled to show it from the best side and exposed some imperfections that made it look like taken with a camera. Done using Blender 3D with Cycles rendering engine

Interior
10
Another project from 3D Graphics Classes. The aim was to show as much of our technical skills as we were able to in the field of: materials, modeling, lightening and texturing. I chose to model some interiors of an old, ruined building. The lightening is supposed to imitate the one that can be sometimes seen when the sun sets and the snow is still laying on the ground- the mixture of cold and warm tones.

Stalker
11
The project from Photography classes. We were supposed to make a series of stylised photography based on any game, movie, or paining we like. I chose a computer game entitled “Stalker,” a game that takes place in Ukraine in a post-apocaliptic world. The picture was taken using Nikon D90 whith 50mm 1.4 Nikkor lens. The color was altered in Photoshop.

Drapery

12
This is one of many studies of draperies I have done on Drawing and Painting lessons. It was done using only black and white pastels on a blue cardboard. Although the pastels were only black and white, putting them on a blue background made them look brown and added a very vivid vibe to this work. This work shows my love of using very expressive lines and gradually making them all work together.

Still Nature
13
The study of still nature. Again showing my appreciation of loose and expressive drawing. What I really wanted to show in this work was how this carelessly looking drawing can easily be transformed into something with a huge impact, like the forms in the foreground. Done using pencils with different hardness.

Floating man
14
Something that started as a study of color and human form and during the creation process quickly evolved into something else. I was mostly inspired by the animations of Gerald Scarfe done for “Pink-Floyd, The Wall”. Mostly those that showed the main character as a faceless entity. Done using acrylic paints on a white cardboard.

The portrait of this old man was a project for our Painting classes. My aim was to catch as much as I could of the model’s character but at the same time to distance myself from the convention of realism. For the background I chose a wooden plywood because it corresponded well with the man’s face. Some part of it can still be seen behind the paint. For this work I used oil paints.

Movement The work was supposed to show the movement during the dance and, as always, only some parts were intended to be realistic. The face, arms and legs are less important as such, what matters is the movement they are making. The same idea of movement is applied to the world that surrounds the body. Work done with the use of Adobe Photoshop, and Wacom tablet.

Biographical note I was born on 4 October 1993 and sience then I have always lived in Rumia, a small city near Gdańsk. I attended there my primary, secondary and high school. Since my early childhood I have been interested in art. My first passion was theatre and whenever I could I tried to attend every theater course that appeared in my schools or in the neighborhood. Classes like this made me feel that I belonged there. I have always been very interested in many kinds of music including jazz, experimental electronic, metal, progression and classical music. I also played the guitar a lot and that is something I wanted to do in my life. Everything changed in high school when I started to be interested in photography and 3D graphics. After a few years of doing it just as a hobby I knew I wanted to commit myself to one of these things. I found a school - „Polsko Japońska Wyższa Szkoła Technik Komputerowych”in Gdańsk - that provided education in both of these fields. To get there I started attending drawing and painting courses at a local art school called „Kuźnia.” The courses taught me a lot and made me more interested in painting and drawing. After starting education at PJWSTK I discovered typography and everything changed for me. Graphic design became my immediate passion and the way of life that I know I will follow in the future.
