Curious Jane Day Camp Curious Jane Day Camp is a high-energy program for rising 2nd–6th grade girls. We offer multiple weekly sessions that revolve around creative explorations in design, engineering, and science. All themes are offered all weeks, and girls choose their favorite theme each week! The program is hands-on and project-based. Girls learn and have fun through DOING. They are encouraged to be active, look at things in new ways and—above all—experiment! We also spend plenty of time outside and work on a variety of projects as a group, so that girls in different themes can get to know each other. Our instructors are endlessly enthusiastic about their topics and very supportive of the girls’ ideas and work. Themes: Toy Design • Story Arts • Lab Science • Robotics • Zine Scene • Building • DIY Workshop We are a close-knit group passionate about genderaffirming opportunities and creative, project-based our guidance, the girls set the tone, and each group creates its own magic! But did you know that the first anti-slavery speech in the United States was in Germantown? That slaves worked and hid in Mount Airy? That the first Gay Rights March was in Philadelphia? Using handson activities, field trips, guest speakers, and primary and secondary sources, this camp explores the hidden history of our city and its environs to create a more complete and complex picture of our shared past. In one week, we journey from the lives of the Leni Lenape before contact, and through
early and modern history to the present. We’ll explore how people came to Philadelphia, try our hand at some of their activities, and look at and listen to some of the cultural works they created. Dates: Time: Ages: Cost:

Outdoor Adventurers Camp Outdoor Adventurers Camp is designed to get boys and girls ages 9–11 outside each day to explore the Wissahickon valley. The camp is small, limited to 15 campers and three counselors, allowing us great mobility and the ability to tackle activities that larger groups could not. We will hike the trails and learn about native flora and fauna. We will visit the Lenape Indian statue on our daylong hike to the Wissahickon environmental education center to learn how the Native Americans lived in the valley for thousands of years. We will work together and build trust in one another on the elements of Springside’s ropes course, high in the canopy of the tulip poplars. We will learn the basics of archery in the woods behind Springside. We will venture off campus, spending the day canoeing on the Brandywine River. We will visit Ringing Rock Park and explore a huge boulder field where the rocks ring and hike a stream bed to a 20-foot waterfall. We will visit the Philadelphia Rock Gym to the learn the basics of rock climbing.
