Kenwood Resort swa group -Team: Richard Crockett(Principal in charge), Kuan Gao, Bridget Walker -Tasks: Concept Document, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation The Kenwood Resort is a celebration of the naturalist character of Sonoma County, creating a unique retreat for guests. The distinctive site characteristics create a variety of design challenges for the team. In a high fire zone, the site has burned down twice in the past six years, drastically altering the conifer forest once dominating the landscape. Intensive site engineering studies have been conducted to work with the steep and rocky slopes.

By introducing water features at different scale, the project celebrates the water by setting a walkable water basin, which allows people to engage with the water feature and enjoy the urban landscape. A promenade is also introduced to tie the four parcels together in order to lead people back to the new waterfront.

The renovation of this big house’s garden composes a open lawn, artful trellis, spiral stairs with terra cotta tiles and terraces with boutique tiles. I led city AUP permit to construct walls that are to be taller than 6 ft and worked with Principal Liz and metal fabricator to model and mockup the trellis at the side garden. The design of the trellis borrows cues from wing structures of butterflies to create a free standing arching trellis.
