Our Passion for Nature ... ... is reflected in every one of our products. That’s why we’re never content to rest on our laurels – we’re always moving forward. Leica is made for people who want to experience their environment with immediate intensity, rather than from a distance. People who demand more, when others accept less. People who seek the extraordinary – and who find it with us.
ABOUT US
Our products boast high-quality optical performance and extremely precise mechanisms. Each one is hand-made, to the highest quality standards, by our skilled technicians. But why not explore the following pages and form your own impressions? We invite you to find out more about us. About our history, our unwavering commitment to quality and service, our technological expertise, and our range of products.
Making History Means ... 907 1 The first serial-production Leitz binoculars are delivered. 956 1 The Amplivid 6 x 24 wide-angle binoculars are launched, with a field of view of 231.8 yds/212 m at 1,093 yds/1,000 m that remains unsurpassed today. ... having once set something in motion. Shaping the future means dedicating yourself to setting new things in motion every single day. Our story begins with Dr Ernst Leitz. A passionate nature lover and businessman who had a decisive influence on the development of our products and still shapes their character today.
958 1 The first binoculars to bear the name Trinovid are made (Tri Novi – ‘three innovations’). Their features: slim construction, true internal focusing, and superior optical performance.
In May 1907, after three years of research and development, serial production of the first binoculars began: the Binocle 6 x18. Since then, many more high-quality scope products have followed – all born of the same enthusiasm for devising ever more innovative optics.
992 1 The launch of the Geovid as the first binoculars with an integrated laser rangefinder make Leica the unassailable pioneer in this segment until the present day.
At the beginning of 1950, Leica added the first three riflescopes to their telescope programme. These models were characterised by a particular Leitz feature: reticle focusing was performed by a group of lenses inside the tube instead of the usual adjustment of the entire eyepiece. Here, the principle of true internal focusing was combined with the well-known advantages of ruggedness and resistance to dust and moisture. However, as in the past, our product focus continued to be on binoculars and spotting scopes. As a result, our riflescopes only remained in production for a few years.
2007 The Ultravid HD with fluoride lenses paves the way for a new era.
Then in 2010, we renewed our production of riflescopes with the launch of the Leica ER series. The accolades from our customers – combined with our own ambitions – inspired us to develop a new series of premium riflescopes: Magnus. Naturally, this will not be the end of our fascination with Field Optics. Our work on tomorrow’s innovative technologies is ongoing, as we write the next chapter of our success story.
2009 Leica sets new standards again, now in the field of spotting scopes, with the APO-Televid. 2009 Leica develops and manufactures two new riflescopes in the ER series thus marking a successful return to the riflescope market. 2011 Introduction of an all-new product series: the illuminated riflescope, Magnus. Plus, the Rangemaster CRF 1000 replaces the Rangemaster CRF 800. DR. ERNST LEITZ

RANGEFINDERS
The Distance to Your Target ... ... can be reliably and precisely measured with just a single click with Leica rangefinders. In 1992, Leica launched the first ever premium binoculars with an integrated laser rangefinder: the Geovid, a device developed to the highest standards of optical, electronic, and mechanical performance. Today the Geovid is a synonym for the perfect combination of viewing and distance measurement. Our monocular rangefinders are also unequalled orientation experts. Safe and easy to use, they accurately display the distance to your target at the press of a button. The Rangemaster CRF 1600, which features an integrated ballistics system, was launced in 2010 and raised the bar for rangefinders worldwide. Now we are pleased to introduce a new model: the Rangemaster CRF 1000. A rangefinder for discerning newcomers to the sport, it offers the unique technology found in the CRF 1600, minus the ballistics system.

Geovid HD. Viewing and Measuring on Demand.
The Geovid HD takes laser rangefinding to an entirely new level – optically, electronically, and mechanically. It accurately and reliably measures distances up to 1,400 yds/1,300 m. The rangefinding logic is strictly oriented toward intuitive use: for instance, distances are measured by pressing the button, not by releasing it. If a measurement is unable to be calculated precisely, the display remains blank instead of showing an erroneous value. The newlydevised Scan Mode takes a distance reading every two seconds – an enormously helpful feature when viewing moving targets. The compact and ergonomic design of the Geovid HD is only marginally different from that of conventional binoculars. But the difference is in the details: fluoride lenses ensure maximum colour fidelity and contrast. It’s the secret behind its brilliant and intensly crisp images, even under the most adverse light conditions.
CUTAWAY VIEW LEICA GEOVID 8 x 42 HD
The rugged aluminium body construction ensures that it can withstand even the toughest environments. It is waterproof to 16.5 ft/5 m. The AquaDura™ coating protects its lenses reliably against water and dirt, while its nitrogen-filled body efficiently prevents internal fogging. Its rubber eyecups are removable and particularly easy to clean.

Our Rangemaster devices give you extremely precise readings, sit comfortably in your hand, and are light and compact enough to slip into any jacket pocket. The Rangemaster CRF 1600 with 7 x magnification lets you measure exact distances between 10.9 yds/10 m to 1,600 yds/1,500 m. And all in less than 0.3 seconds. In addition, the integrated ballistics software gives you maximum confidence for your shot thanks to its unique gradient sensor, temperature and barometric pressure metres, and a range of ballistic curves. APO-Televid Spotting Scopes. Bright and Brilliant.
CUTAWAY VIEW LEICA APO -TELEVID 82
Leica sets new standards in the spotting scope market with the APO-Televid range. In addition to their sophisticated optics, both the APO-Televid 65 and the APO-Televid 82 impress with their robustly engineered mechanics, their design, and extraordinarily compact form. Both spotting scopes are compatible with the extreme wide-angle 25 x – 50 x WW ASPH. eyepiece and contain an innovative fluoride front lens. They offer a wide field of view and deliver images with excellent colour fidelity and sharpness as well as maximum contrast. The APO optical element is protected by an optically neutral covering lens. Leica’s tried-and-tested dual focus system with microfocusing enables particularly rapid and simultaneously precise focusing. You can experience the intensity of nature at great distances and will always be at the heart of the action without having to get too close. The rubber-armoured magnesium housing makes the spotting scopes extremely rugged – no matter under what weather conditions they are used. Their dirt and water repellent AquaDura™ lens coating ensures a clear view at all times, while their nitrogen filling reliably prevents internal fogging.

Glossary. Technical, Mechanical, Optical. APO chromatic aberration correction
the prefix APO stands for the apochromatic correction achieved by the use of special glasses containing fluoride these increase sharpness and contrast and prevent undesirable colour-fringing
Exit pupil bright, circular field that can be seen by looking through the eyepiece from a distance of around 11.8 in/30 cm the exit pupil is calculated by dividing the front lens diametre by the magnification a sign of quality: the circular field should always be perfectly round with sharp edges
HD
Magnesium body/housing
stands for high definition, which means the highest optical and mechanical quality Ultravid HD focusing remains fully functional – even in extreme temperature situations – with constant, optimum smoothness the use of the AquaDura™ lens coating the use of special fluoride glasses
AquaDura™ coating ER its water and dirt repellent properties guarantee a clear view – even in unfavorable weather conditions improves viewing comfort increased abrasion resistance protects the precious optical elements even more effectively against damage
ASPH. this abbreviation indicates the use of aspherical elements in an optical system the advantage of aspherical lenses is that light rays passing through the edges of the lens are refracted differently – this results in perfect edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire field of view
Resolving power the ability of an optical system to render the finest structures the higher the resolving power, the better the perception of details under adverse lighting conditions
104
HDC™ multicoating ER = extended eye relief (greater distance from eyepiece to eye)
False light/stray light falsely refracted or reflected light causes reflections or undesirable bright spots and interferes with viewing comfort and the natural perception of the scene viewed stray light can be suppressed to a great extent by using precisely selected coatings and light-baffle systems
FL glasses FL stands for special glasses containing fluoride these minimize colour-fringing, increase contrast, and guarantee natural colour rendition very low light scattering means better correction of aberrations
abrasion-resistant and transmission-enhancing multicoating applied to lenses perfect for outdoor situations thanks to the combination of a high degree of transparency and
ideal material for protecting the optical elements from impact and vibration guaranteed endurance paired with extra- ordinarily light weight
Front lens diameter the greater the diameter of the front lens, the more light gathered by a pair of binoculars the ideal choice for anyone viewing predomi- nantly in the twilight hours or at night is a pair of binoculars with a lens opening of 42 or 50 mm, or a spotting scope with a front lens diameter of 82 mm
resistance to scratching
Depth of field HighLux-System HLS™ can significantly increase transmission, contrast, and sharpness a system of mechanical measures for the reduction of stray light (e. g. baffles, antireflex paints, etc.) in combination with special reflective coating of prisms used in Duovid and Ultravid binoculars
Contrast the difference in brightness between the highlights and shadows in an image the greater this difference, the higher the contrast
the distance between the closest and most distant objects in the image plane that are still rendered sharply without refocusing the lower the magnification factor, the greater the depth of field
Magnification magnification describes how much closer to the observer an observed object appears to be Example: in the case of 8 x magnification, an observer sees a bird at a distance of approx. 328 ft/100 m as large as if it were only 41 ft/12.5 m (100 : 8 = 12.5) away
