I AM A FRESH UNDER GRADUATE (YEAR 2017) OF ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING AT INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY,ROORKEE, UTTRAKHAND.

DURING THESE FIVE YEAR, I HAVE TRIED TO EXPLORE THE ARCHITECTURE IN DEPTH AND I AM STILL DOING.I HAVE TRIED TO DIRECTLY INTERACT WITH THE CLIENT AS MUCH AS I CAN IN OWN SMALL FREELANCING WORKS TO UNDERSTAND HIS REQUIREMENTS WHICH GAVE ME A BIG EXPERIENCE. ABOUT THE PROJECT

I DID THIS PROJECT AS MY FINAL YEAR THESIS PROJECT WHICH IS HOUSING A 5 STAR BUSSINESS CLASS HOTEL , AN ICONIC OFFICE TOWER AND SHOPPING/RETAIL AREAS, LOCATED IN THE SECTOR-62 OF NOIDA. LAND USE PATTERN IN THE AREA IS MAINLY INSTITUTIONAL BUILDINGS.

MIAN CHALLEENGE

MAIN CHALLENGE THAT I FACED WAS THAT SITE DO NOT HAVE ANY EXTRAORDINARY VIEWS, SO I FOCUSED ON CREATING LANDSCAPED PLAZA WITH INFORMAL SITTING SPACES WHICH CAN BE USED FOR INTEGRATING THE VARIOUS ACTIVITIES.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

NINE NINES LIFESTYLE IS A PROPOSED LOW RISE RESIDENTIAL APARTMENT IN HYDRABAD WHICH COMPRISES OF 15 UNITS OF 3 BHK AND 2.5 BHK WITH AMENITIES SUCH AS LANDSCAPED TERRACE AND GYMNAESIUM, POWER BACK-UP ETC.

PROJECT STATUS WHEN I JOINED CONCEPT STAGE FLOOR PLANS, SECTION AND ELEVATION WERE FREEZED.

ELEVATIONS LOUVRES PROVIDED ON THE SOUTH SIDE TO CUT OFF THE GLARE.ALSO LONG PROJECTIONS ARE PROVIDED WHICH ALSO HELP IN CUTTING GLARE OF SOUTH SUN.

HOUSE DESIGN DESIGN STRATEGIES

ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEM WAS THAT THE NORTH SIDE OF THE PLOT WAS COMPLETELY BLOCKED DUE TO ADJACENT PLOT, SO NO WINDOWS CAN BE PROVIDED ON THAT FACADE.

FRONT ELEVATION

USE OF LOUVRES ON THE SOUTH FACADE AND LONG PROJECTIONS AND PLACING LESS FREQUENTLY USED SPACES SUCH AS TOILETS AND STAIRCASES IN WEST FACADE ARE SOME DESIGN STRATEGIES USED.

PERGOLA PROVIDED OVER THE CAR PARK IN WEST SIDE.INTERPLAY OF SHADOW PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE.

NORTH LIGHT WAS COMPLETELY BLOCKED SO,NATURAL LIGHT IS INTRODUCED FROM TOP IN THE INTERIOR OF THE HOUSE.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

A COMMUNITY HALL OF CAPACITY 1000 PEOPLE, A RESTAURANT OF CAPACITY 100 PEOPLE, AND A LIBRARY OF CAPACITY 100 PEOPLE,CAR PARKING FOR 100 CARS ON GROUND. THE CAR PARKING WAS SUPPOSED TO SERVE THE DUAL PURPOSE.IT CAN BE USED BY PEOPLES OF COMMUNITY ON REGULAR BASIS FOR PARKING AND AT THE TIME OF SOCIAL GATHERING PEOPLES COMING CAN PARK THEIR CARS.

RAJHANS HELIX-3 MIX USE DEVELOPMENT GHATKOPAR MUMBAI AREA-1.8 LAKH SQ. FEET CLIMATE-MODERATELY HOT AND HUMID STATUS-ON GOING

PROJECT STATUS WHEN I JOINED ALL THE FLOOR PLANS AT INITIAL LEVEL WERE FREEZED AND COLUMN DIMENSIONS WERE YET TO BE FINALIZED BY STRUCTURAL CONSULTANT.

RAMP IN SLOPE OF 1:10 AND TURNING RADIUS OF 4800 MM, TWO WAY DRIVE OF 6000 MM IS GIVEN FOR THE SAFETY.

INITIALLY 350MM THICK RETAINING WALL WAS DESIGNED, LATER THICKNESS WAS INCREASED TO 500 MM BY THE STRUCTURAL CONSULTANT.

4000 MM OF FINISH TO FINISH FLOOR HEIGHT IS PROVIDED IN BASEMENT.RISER OF 166 MM AND TREAD OF 300 MM IS PROVIDED.

MY RESPONSIBILITY

SENDING THE FLOOR PLANS TO THE STRUCTURAL CONSULTANT AND DRAWING THE SECTIONS AS PER THE FLOOR PLANS AND INCORPORATING THE CHANGES SUGGESTED BY HIM IN PLANS AND SECTIONS.

SITE VISIT AND MY LEARNING

VISING THE SITE IN GHATKOPAR WITH OTHER ARCHITECTS AND LEARNING ON FILED.

THREE LAYER OF CONCRETE 150 MM PCC, 450 MM RAFT 1500 MM PLUM CONCRETE WAS PROVIDED IN BASEMENT.

SUNK OF 150 MM IS PROVIDED IN THE FLOOR SLAB OF TOILETS FOR PLUMBING ANS WASTE WATER PIPES.


PODIUM PARKING IS ALSO PROVIDED TO MEET DEMAND OF REQUIRED NO OF CAR PARK. CAR LIFT IS PROVIDED TO TAKE THE CARS TO PODIUM LEVEL

FRESH AIR DUCTS PROVIDED IN THE BASEMENT FOR THE SUPPLY OF FRESH AIR.ELECTRIC ROOM , PUMP ROOM AND METER ROOM IS PROVIDED IN BASEMENT

SITE VISIT PHOTOGRAPHS VISITING ON SITE ALONG WITH OTHER SENIOR ARCHITECTS GAVE ME A VERY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AND I GOT A CHANCE TO SEE HOW THE CONSTRUCTION WORK IS ACTUALLY CARRIED OUT AT SITE AFTER THE COMPLETION OF WORKING DRAWING IN STUDIO.IT WAS FIRST TIME FOR ME WHEN I WAS VISITING A SITE OF THIS SCALE.THE AGENDA FOR THE SITE VISIT WAS TO CHECK LINE DIMENSION OF THE COLUMNS AND ALSO COLUMN TO COLUMN DIAGONAL DIMENSIONS.

LIGHT COLOURS ARE USED ON WALLS AND DARK COLOUR TILES ON FLOORS TO CREATE CONTRAST.

DURING MY TWO MONTH INTERNSHIP AT HGCG ARCHITECTCS I WAS INVOLVED IN MANY BIG AND SMALL,OUT OF WHICH WORKING ON A SPORTS COMPLEX WAS MAJOR. THE SPORTS COMPLEX WAS NEEDED TO BE DESIGNED FOR A HIGH SCHOOL.

LITERATURE STUDY OF THE SPORTS COMPLEX AND DRAFTING THE FLOOR PLANS ,FRONT ELEVATION ,SECTIONS AND DETAILS AND RENDER THE FLOOR PLANS ON PHOTOSHOP AND ALSO DEVELOPING 3D MODEL.

HAND RAILS ON THE STAIRCASES WERE NOT AS USUAL.THEY WERE DESIGNED TO MAKE THEM MORE INTERACTIVE BY PLACING SOME BEADS AND RINGS IN THE RAILING WHICH CAN BE SLIDED UP AND DOWN BY CHILDREN AND THUS MAKING THE DESIGN MORE INTERACTIVE AND MANY THINGS CAN BE TAUGHT TO THEM VERY SIMPLY.

CLASSROOM INTERIOR

THE CLASSROOM ALSO HAD ALL MODERN FACILITIES LIKE PROJECTOR AND SPEAKERS FOR AUDIO AN VISUAL. SOFT BOARDS OF THE CORRIDOR SERVES THE DUAL PURPOSE AS STUDENTS CAN USE THEM BOTH FROM BOTH SIDES.

DURING TH PLANNING WE WERE FORCED TO CHOOSE THIS SHAPE ONLY BECAUSE THE CLIENT HAS ITS OWN INDUSTRY OF CURVED ROOF WHICH SAVED HIS MONEY AND ALSO DO NOT REQUIRE ANY SUPPORT IN BETWEEN DURING LONGER SPAN. SOFTWARES USED AUTO CAD, SKETCH UP, V RAY SKETCH UP, PHOTOSHOP

THE CORRIDORS OF SCHOOL WERE DOUBLY BANKED AND IN A NORMAL CASE A BRICK WALL BE SEPARATING THE CLASSROOM FROM CORRIDORS.BUT IN THIS CASE FULL HEIGHT OPENINGS WERE MADE IN SEPARATING WALL AND LOCKERS AND SOFT BOARDS WERE INTRODUCED.SOFT BOARD INTENDED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISPLAYING THE STUDENT WORKS AND CAN BE USED FOR KEEPING THE BOOKS AND COPIES,INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT OF BAG LESS SCHOOL.

I WA S COMPLETELY INVOLVED IN THE BASIC DESIGNING OF THE CORRIDORS HANDRAILS AND INTERIOR OF THE CLASSROOM AND I LEARNED THAT HOW A SIMPLE DESIGN CAN BE MADE AMAZING.

ENTRANCE PLAZA FOR THE AUDITORIUM OF FACULTY OF COMMERCE WAS COMPLETELY DESIGNED BY ME.THE RAMP AT THE ENTRANCE WAS ALREADY PRESENT.SO I THOUGHT OF PROVIDING THE MAIN STEPS FROM THE SIDE.BECAUSE THIS IS COLLAGE ,THEREFORE I ALSO PROVIDED SEATING OUTSIDE ON WOODEN LOGS.I ALSO GAVE A SECONDARY STEPS FROM GRASS AND PLANTS WHICH CAN ALSO BE USED FOR SITTING AS THEY ARE SECONDARY.I ALSO GAVE PROVISION FOR SMALL COFFEE SHOP.
