Sparkie Cyberstar is a well known live performer manager and the events coordinator of Angel Manor in Second Life. Sparkie is also a photographer and artist. She is one who heavily utilizes the in world photography tools of the viewer, instead of post processing tools such as Photoshop or GIMP. Kultivate was able to reach out to Sparkie to discuss her various roles in Second Life: KM: You are an artist, live performer manager, and a manager at Angel Manor! Tell our readers how did you first become involved with so many projects? SPARKIE: I started with the music scene my first year in Second Life I found out there was live music in here when a place those renting was throwing events with live music, the first artist I saw was Ed Kyomoon at the time he goes by his real name Donn Devore, I thought it was awesome that you could sit at home and watch a concert live. I was already an avid concert goer in real life. So I was really happy to find this within Second Life. The first thing I did was started managing a small pub PAGE 58 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — AUGUST 2016

I then took on managing My first person this passed now Doofus Luckless and have since then managed some of the top acts in Second Life and still currently manage Anek Fuchs and Christopher Quan, Both for a few years now. Naturally the managing of artist progress it to managing venues again that I did not own actually. I've run several great venues in my time which is why when I saw the Rose Theater Was looking for an events manager almost 2 years ago I applied and was hired by Kaya Angel, It is one of my proudest achievements to work there and my Second Life. I got into photography because I was once told that Sparkie could not model, Yes at one point I wanted to be a model, And since I'm hardheaded I decided to start taking photos of myself which progressed into taking mostly landscapes. I actually practiced for

KM: Thanks for agreeing to an interview with Kultivate! So tell our readers about the Brook Hill Gallery: how long has it been in existence and what is the gallery's theme? REY: Thank you to Kultivate for this opportunity. The Brook Hill Gallery is located on the Brook Hill Estate which is the newest addition to the Blake Sea, just east of Sailors Cove East and South of Second Norway. The gallery has been in existence for just a little under a year, about 10 months, so we are coming up to our one year anniversary soon. If i have to classify the gallery under a theme, then it would fall under contemporary, but the vision for the gallery is to have a place where its not confined to themes, which allows for more possibilities in the future and can be an interesting journey for our artist as well as our visitors.

We also have an application process which can be found on our website at http://www.brookhill-sl.com/ gallery/ and there's an info board at the gallery for artist looking to exhibit which leads you to the application process.

KM: The gallery is part of the Brook Hill Community. Tell our readers about this community. The exhibit is scheduled to open on Sunday July 24th and will run till August 21st. I'm looking forward to everyone coming out to see this wonderful artist. KM: Curating can be both fun and difficult at times in Second Life. Any words of wisdom for future curators? REY: You have to truly enjoy and have a passion for the arts. Visit other galleries, talk to the curators and talk to the artist to see what were the things they enjoyed best in working with a particular gallery. Don't be afraid in doing something different. KM: So tell our readers how you first discovered Second Life? What made you take up photography? PAM: I was watching the news one night and saw a story about it. It looked intriguing and I wanted to see what it was all about. After joining and creating my avatar, I logged on thinking I was about to be really impressed, but quickly discovered that I was extremely bored and couldn't find anyone, anywhere.. I didn't log on again for two months and thought I would give it another try.

KM: What are the inspirations for your photography? How do you decide what an image will look like at the end? PAM: I am mostly inspired by artists like Josephine Wall, Luis Royo, and Jennifer Healy. Anything that evokes emotion, inspires me. In the end, I look at the colors, textures, general appeal to me, too many things to mention here. Lol!. THE RIFF ROCK MUSIC SPOTLIGHT

In our commitment to all things artistic, we have launched a new division, The Riff! The Riff will cover the best in rock music in Second Life! Our first spotlight is on Wild Angels Rock Club: KM: Thank you for being our first interview for our new section, The Rift, which aims to discuss rock music clubs, djs, and more in Second Life! So tell our readers about Wild Angels; how long has the club existed in Second Life? Why was it created? SATORI: We, at WILD ANGELS, are thrilled to be a part of this. Its very exciting and thank you for making us a part of this! Wild Angels was started by CJ TORVA. The club was originally started in February of 2014 as a hangout for friends with a few random shifts scattered throughout the week. The primary focus of the club was just a place for people to gather and have fun. As Cj has stated previously, it wasn't originally planned to be what it has become. More and more patrons started coming, interest in the club started to grow, applications started flowing in....in some ways it seems like it was PAGE 108 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — AUGUST 2016

Wild Angels grew more and more, so rapidly in fact, we quickly outgrew the old sim we were on. Patrons we complaining they couldn't get on sim and even getting the next scheduled staff in for their shift became an issue at times! This was when it was decided that it was time to make a move to a much larger sim, the location we currently occupy. KM: And what is your role at Wild Angels? SATORI: I am fortunate be both a DJ and Host along with being the Staff Manager/Trainer. Basically, my face pops up all over the club for a multitude reasons! KM: What are the club hours? What types of rock music can one find at Wild Angels? SATORI: Wild Angels is open daily from 8AM SLT - 12AM SLT and are working to expand our hours even further, the end goal is being able to offer our patrons a full 24 hour

We also are about to kick off the return of the WILD ANGELS concert series. We run a vote board in the club with six bands on it. We open the board for patrons to vote throughout the week and the band with the highest number of votes becomes the featured concert the following week. Of course, in addition to our regular events, we also have lucky chairs, trivia and a weekly raffle. As you can see, we have things happening all the time!

I think my best advice would be know your patrons and be engaging. As a DJ, you have the ability to connect with patrons on several levels which I find enhance the experience for everyone and that make the job so rewarding. My relationships with the people that join us at Wild Angels make each and every shift so enjoyable. Oh the Ocean! Rocky coasts, sandy shores, salt marshes with wild grasses, the sea is enthralling, with a music all its own. The sound of the surf and of the gulls and other water birds is so tranquil, soothing. And the ever present tang of the moist, salty air that you feel on your skin, smell,

CREATOR’S SPOTLIGHT

CREATOR’S SPOTLIGHT: LA COUPOLE BY MAVEN HOMES WRITER: REVEN ROSCA PHOTOGRAPHY: CAIN MAVEN

Cain Maven, of Maven Homes and Quantum Luxury Homes, kindly offered Kultivate magazine an exclusive preview of his new house, released this summer. While very different from what I have seen from his hands before, “La Coupole” is also unmistakably Mavenesque. La Coupole doesn’t only have several of the features that define Maven homes. It also carries Maven’s fingerprints in itself: The way it’s modeled, the elegant perfection in his texturing, and some surprising twists. The name itself bears evidence of such. KM: What was your inspiration for La Coupole? CAIN: Architecture, like many forms of creativity, is the art of politely stealing the ideas of others. Every iteration of architecture borrows and extends from the masters of the past. Unlike more common forms of theft, there’s no shame in this – it’s how the discipline of creating inhabitable or symbolic structures has evolved over the millennia. Of course, some have PAGE 160 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — AUGUST 2016

been more instrumental than others. In what we like to call Western civilizations, the ancient Greeks undoubtedly deserve much credit. They invented the classical orders, which to this day are significant pillars – bad pun intended – of our architectural traditions. Then the stealing began. Well, not right away – the Italian Renaissance didn’t kick off until the 14th century or so – but then the Italians took the Greek principles and ran with them, adding their own twists and flavors. Shortly after which the French got into the game, embellishing with some sorely needed elegance and lightness, followed by the English, who true to form decided everything should be dark and dreary. (For example, try to picture a bright and happy English library and your head will explode.) To cap off this wave of neoclassicism, the newly minted American nation realized that they by definition had absolutely no traditions of their own and so set out to copy the splendor of the

THE EDGE FASHION SPOTLIGHT: MARCUS LEFEVRE WRITER: STAVOROS GRACEMOUNT PHOTOGRAPHY: MARCUS LEFEVRE

PAGE 204 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — AUGUST 2016

As a contributor to Kultivate I was given the honor of interviewing a friend and colleague. Marcus LeFevre is more than just a friend though, he's known as the man behind the Miss SL Organization. He's also currently running auditions for the Mr. SL Pageant, that I took part in last year myself. So sitting in my Kultivate office, I waited for the slim built blond man to come into the room. It's a different capacity when it comes to interviewing someone that you know on a personal level. So I hope that I was able to give you all an unbiased view of the man behind the machine that is Miss SL Organization.

you, Marcus as a person? ᴍᴀʀᴄᴜs ʟᴇғᴇᴠʀᴇ: I’d have bet that we have met before that, but you refer to the meeting where your husband, you, Ponchi and I discussed a stage build... I hope the time on mainland didn`t leave to much of impression on you.

I don’t really know what to say about, but that MISS SL Organization is not about me at all, hence there's not much to say...Just that, I like to learn things and try to improve each time I do something... Maybe that’s why I felt comfortable with creating MISS SL Organization back then. Sometimes I have the feeling that people see me in some extraordinary position I’ve had to Mr. Sтäväros Ğrăçємσûηт: I hope admit myself, that even I believe that you enjoyed your morning coffee. I sometimes... But you and I know am prepared to ask you some ques- what happens when we turn the PC tions, please feel free here. year?" ᴍᴀʀᴄᴜs ʟᴇғᴇᴠʀᴇ: The MR SL com petition last year, in which you have been yourself, was an extremely valuable lesson to me, as has been all of our journeys so far...My hope is, that I can increase the sophistication in the challenges this year. To finish with more than just one winner, but a number of candidates who have a wealth of experience, that bring them forward. Also, inspiring for our male clothing designers, to create things other than the casual. For the community to bear witness flawless entertainment for mind, soul and heart. Mr. Sтäväros Ğrăçємσûηт: I completely agree! From that first conversation that we had, up until this point, What do you think is the greatest lesson you have learned in the running of your organization? ᴍᴀʀᴄᴜs ʟᴇғᴇᴠʀᴇ: That's a tough question, I’ve learned so many things...For the good side... I've learned that I can trust more people than I thought I could. For the not so good side... I shouldn’t trust just everyone.

something we all hold close to heart, I can definitely agree with you. What do you think the worst experiences are that you have had in the creation and running of Miss SL Organization? ᴍᴀʀᴄᴜs ʟᴇғᴇᴠʀᴇ: The worst experience was to trust a circle of persons blindly and to loose a lot of credibility and trust over it... As important as trust is to me, it’s equally important that I have the people’s trust in kind. To lose the Fashion Kingdom back then was the worst result of my own actions... I’ve lost about 200+ sims back then as estate director, but it was caused by something out of my control. I was not the only one to lose. The horrible mess around the Fashion Kingdom was a life-time experience for myself, telling me: a) Not to follow people blindly, just because they appear to shine... b) To remain on my own path... I think that’s the most kind way I can express it.

Mr. Sтäväros Ğrăçємσûηт: I can definitely understand where you are coming from. I think we all in our way have experienced Mr. Sтäväros Ğrăçємσûηт: Trust is disappointments that were our of

“All in all, I think a lot of us have perceptions of people that are in the public eye of Second Life. I can understand that solitude that comes along with some of that publicity, whether it's good or bad. Sometimes it can be invasive, but at the end of the day, we are all humans behind our avatars. The MISS SL Organization strives to make our Second Lives a better place. There is nothing wrong from the example they are attempting to set for the rest of us to see. “
