360o photography is becoming increasingly popular thanks to the growing interest in virtual reality headsets and more inventive uses of the gyroscopic capabilities in mobile devices. As such, it should come as no surprise that people have been trying to develop capabilities for taking such photographs in Second Life - including Linden Lab.

If you simply want to be able to take “native” shots through the viewer and upload them for sharing with friends, then the 360o snapshot viewer will likely be the ideal tool for you. Similarly, providing the Lab retains the ability for users to download completed 360o photos captured through the viewer, those who enjoy the art of post processing will be equally well served. As long as they do nothing to break the 2:1 PAR of a photo processing it and avoid cropping / trimming, then there is no reason why images captured and stitched using the 360o snapshot viewer cannot be pulled into a graphics application and processed as required, prior to uploading to Flickr et al.

So again, this might give some cause to go grab a HUD and get started with 360o photography, while it may give others pause to wait and see what happens with the viewer.
For my part, I do tend to switch between the IOL Camera Panoramic, the VR Creations Photosphere and the 360o snapshot viewer according to need and am happy with all three. KM: So tell us how did you discover Second Life? SPOOKY: First I would like to thank you for considering me for this opportunity. It is quite an honor. I initially was involved in another virtual world and had heard of Second Life. One day the client in said virtual world wasn't working, and my girlfriend and I discussed going together because she had already been there years ago. That was a whole fiasco. My computer was pretty crappy and we couldn't find each other. Nothing was rendered correctly, so felt a bit like a bad trip...I didn't get why a box was stuck to me as I went to add some clothing, the avatars I saw were creepy, grey robotic looking things looming in the distance and I kept crashing, so I gave up. Later on down the road I got a better computer. Again, the client where I was, was not cooperating, so I gave SL another go. This time I was totally enthralled with the graphics. I found my way out of the Noob lands and onto some decently put together sims, discovered the Windlights and was floored by the depth and integrity of the camera when I finally figured that PAGE 66 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — NOVEMBER 2016
out! From there I was hooked… KM: And how did you first get into Second Life photography? SPOOKY:As I mentioned I was involved in another virtual world, and had already developed a passion for taking pictures there. I wanted to breathe life...a soul, into an avatar through images if I could. When I got to second life and discovered the Windlights and the camera's potential via Firestorm. I was challenged by it's complexity and the exceptional graphics and all the possibilities it presented. KM: You have many interesting subjects and scenes with your photography! What are your inspirations for an image? SPOOKY: I like this quote a lot...and it kind of sums it up... “The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web. ”― Pablo Picasso Everything is inspiration, and well firstly, there are some amazing designers on SL. I see some of their creations and am floored by their brilliance and
INSIDE LOOK and attention to detail. Stunning sims and other peoples creativity sparks ideas. There are some awe inspiring artists on SL and on Flickr, and they incite me to always try harder, do something new...push boundaries. Being involved in digital photography has caused me to teach myself photoshop, and I am always wanting to learn something more. Definitely emotions are the catalyst for most things that will tie a song lyric, a line from a poem...a scene from a show, graphic novel, or a character that strikes a chord with me...music that goes beneath the surface, with intelligent and soul searching lyrics ; the existential flora and fauna, so to speak. As far as artists go... Tim Burton, Dave Mckean, Dali...visual poets like Rimbaud and Baudelaire, the surrealists are some of the biggest contenders for my attention.
Sometimes I check to see where my friends have been on the home feed on the website profile page, or click over to trending see if I can find some obscure, magic place. And when I am feeling particularly adventurous, I type in random words in the client search thing in 'places', and see where it takes me.
KM: I notice that your images often have a hint of darkness to them at times. Is this your persona or you simply love spooky images? SPOOKY: Interesting question. Sorry, another quote. I am big on quotes... “I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness, will find banks full of roses under my cypresses.� ― Friedrich Nietzsche I don't know that it's a persona. I have always had a dark bent as far as aesthetics...but I am actually a pretty gentle person, with a KM: How do you find your locations screaming conscience. than my share of them. There is an integral honesty though, when you accept that we all have a little darkness, secret struggles...depression. And the world...the world has a lot of darkness. I grapple with the darkness I see around me, and I notice that some of the biggest monsters have the shiniest veneers. I do enjoy creating macabre characters and scenes, sometimes subtly symbolizing situations in my life, and emotions churning beneath the surface. But often it's just for fun. Everyday is Halloween. I think it's cool when you can evoke real emotion from an image, without the consequences. It's a secret dream to be working on movie sets, and being involved in costume design, fx and creating fantastical atmospheres. Tucked away in a corner of a region called Battlestar and rising from calm waters are two galleries of modern, open design. They are the respective homes for art by Nessuno Myoo and Kicca Igaly.

I was so excited to hear the inner workings of this new writer’s mind and to know what drove him to write the way he did because ever since I met him he had me so intrigued from the very first three lines.

Outer Garden SLURL: http:// maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/ Outer%20Garden/23/57/2504 When I travel for this column, I’m always on the lookout for great wintery locations to take photos especially for my annual holiday card. So I was happy to stumble across Outer Garden. Its stark white landscape is so beautiful and perfect to use as a background for photos. The creator, Bisou Dexler, has also included some interactive pieces which have both couples and singles poses for you to use. Bisou Dexler opened Outer Garden in 2015 and it’s been through several seasonal changes since that time. In fact, during the weeks I went to visit and take photographs some of the structures were removed making way for new installations.

The main parcel has a little glass greenhouse, an elegant bedroom scene, a canopied daybed and several crescent moons with poses. Fairy lights are dotted about for special lighting effects. KM: Zuri's Jewelry Creations has been a staple in SL for many years! Please tell our readers how did you first discover SL and why did you decide to get into jewelry and clothing making? ZURI: Second Life made me discover a new way of expressing my creativity. What started as a game, experimenting to make pretty things to wear, turned into an inspiration outlet. KM: What are your inspirations for your pieces? You make a variety of jewelry from earrings to necklaces, to tiaras. ZURI: Beauty! Zuri means "beautiful" in Swahili, and it's beauty what inspires me for the pieces I create. Whether it's casual, vintage, formal, or fantasy, I contribute to make ladies and gentlemen of SL beautiful.
ZURI: Oh yes, our Live Gems were always an essential part of my success. I want to replicate the Real Life experience of shopping in a luxurious jewelry store. Am I proportional.... Warning this is not for non human avatar types. There are a lot of differences when it comes to proportions in Second Life and in real life. A common misconception in Second Life is scaling your form to real life height is proportional. This is not true. Nor is the truth that you have to be over 8 feet tall to model.
