Welcome to our October 2016 issue! As you can see, Eleseren and I are ready for Halloween and we hope you are too!

Why am I choosing to ignore it? The reasons are simple. These people who support and conduct such attacks anonymously simply are not worth my time. I have too much to spend my time and energy on. Managing Kultivate and our various events and galleries, takes up a great deal of my Second Life time and why should I bother with anonymous criticism? So if you are subject to such behavior yourself, simply ignore it. Eventually the harassers will find someone else to try and tear down.

In this issue we feature artist Sandi Benelli, photographer Amy Beebee, Potomac Homes Owner & Creator, Winter Loxely, The Wanderlust Bench Art Park, birds in Landscapes by Ilyra Chardin, live performer Ceci Dover, and Veruca Tammas covers the Sarawak Sim. Eleseren Brianna brings you a profile feature on designer and model Honey Bender and we have a special segment on the art of charity I would like to thank the contributors in Second Life. who have worked hard to put this issue together and a very special thank I have noticed that as the seasons you to all of our interviewees, who change in both real life and Second took time out of their busy schedule to Life, so do the personalities of people. answer questions we put for to them. I have had to address Very special thank you to Eleseren, for such behavior myself, in regards to the putting up with my Johnisms... things I do in Second Life and I have decided to just ignore the negative JOHN connotations, the malicious gossip and Publisher & Editor In Chief lies, and the flat out ignorant commentary about myself. Our RL father died with Parkinson's 12 years ago and exactly 1 year later our mom, was diagnosed with it. 7 Years ago my brother introduced us both to SL. Within a few month our RL mom (Fran Seranade in SL) noticed she identified so strongly with her avatar, that she could feel her muscles strengthen even without doing RL exercise. The physical benefits were so pronounced that I knew we needed to start a support group within SL, raise donation for research in SL and connect with researchers who are studying the benefits of SL for people with Parkinson's. This particular event is in it's 4th year within Second Life. KM: How can a person get involved with your charity? I did some research to find a charity that was about early screening and detection procedures. So when I found the NBCF early on in my own personal treatment process I knew I had to do something to give back to them since they were there with tons of information while I was going through diagnosis and treatment myself. When I saw they had a program to set up donation websites and would endorse fundraisers, as well as having a 98% approval rating on the charity rating websites, I knew this was the right fit. Everyone did the other very well known charities for breast cancer, and they really aren't rated that highly. So it was time to do one that was.

this year, we will be moving on as a team - Models Giving Back - to support some other charity events already working on things for the rest of 2016. Rock Your Rack is our culminating event and my entire team needs a rest after we finish. The monthly REVAMPED shopping event is also our event, and monthly donations are made to the NBCF through that event as well. 1/2 of the booth rental fees each month goes to the NBCF. KM

VOYAGES WITH VEE

Finding a place to explore and write about is always the greatest challenge for me. This latest sim was not one that I went looking for, it appeared to me in the form of a building contest. I participate in several events at Dreams and in August one of the challenges was to create a backdrop for a “selfie”. At the end of the challenge we all go around to each of the builds and judge the work of our competitors and that’s when I saw Sarawak! One of the contestants has a huge affinity for sheep, she’s from New Zealand, and part of her build was a photo of her in Sarawak posed among the sheep.

but also several available buildings, a boathouse, cabins, gazebo, hobbit house, a Dutch inspired windmill, and medieval tower. The sim was created with a great deal of whimsy scattered about, little woodland creatures, dragons, and of course those sheep. Surrounded by water, it’s perfect for boating and the boathouse has containers for you to obtain and canoe and oars just for that purpose. You can also rez a fishing pole from the dock but it’s not a Seven Seas location.

Take your time to explore all the buildings, I especially liked sitting in the rocking chair outside one of the cabins watching the The photo was so good I just had waterwheel churn the waves. So to see what else Sarawak had to relaxing just rocking and taking in offer. It’s an enchanting place to the surroundings. CREATOR’S SPOTLIGHT

WINTER: My partner Max and I opened Potomac in June of 2012, with only two homes ready and no furniture or accessories. We had this huge sim and it looked so empty at first! But over the years it has filled in quite a bit. Potomac Signature Homes got its name from the many afternoons I spent when I was (much) younger wandering the towpath by the Potomac River in Maryland. KM: What's new for Potomac homes in 2016? WINTER: Animated skeletons for

Halloween, new group gifts, and new original mesh items, including our annual limited edition home for Christmas that won't be released until closer to the holiday. I just love the holidays and the changing of the seasons. I'm really looking forward to the Scare Me Silly event in October. KM: Does Potomac homes exist in any other grids? WINTER: I thought of bringing Potomac to Inworldz, and initially purchased a region there and built a version of Potomac's Echo Mountain Lodge, but I found that

THE EDGE SPOTLIGHT: HONEY BENDER WRITER: ELESEREN BRIANNA PHOTOGRAPHY: HONEY BENDER

Honey Bender is an exceptional and multi talented creative talent in several fields in SL, Art, Fashion and with a background as a top Model too. The Edge took the chance to grab her for a quick interview. Eleseren: Hi Honey, I am so happy you agreed to let me interview you for the Edge. You wear many creative hats in SL. Can you tell me about them? Honey: Hello there, yes I think if you like to create and you are given a magnificent multi media platform like Second Life it is hard to limit yourself. Photography and design has always been my primary loves both in RL and SL. But modeling has given me the opportunity to communicate my visions to a broader audience - so I wouldn't have wanted to go without that part of my life here. Eleseren: What fires you creatively as a person? what are your real passions when it comes to what you produce as a designer and artist? Honey: I think the one source of inspiration that dominates my PAGE 208 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — October 2016

I love music and I love movies/music videos, and I can design a whole collection only from listening to one line from one song - like I did with Faster Pussycat's "Moonage Daydream"collection back in 2009. I always play loud music when I work. Eleseren: I love your work as a Designer - as my Inventory proves! Can you tell me about your Fashion Brands Bender and Faster Pussycat, what areas of Fashion you enjoy, and why you decided to have two Brands. Honey: Well Faster Pussycat and the male brand Velvet Elvis was started in 2008 - by myself, Coeur Auer and PoosyKat LittleBoots. Our first runway show was a punk rock show and then a xmas show - with models like Herradura Baar, Wicca Merlin, Mimmi Boa , Poptart Lilliehook, Leandra Breen and RicoRacer Flux, on the runway - what a blast.
