KM: Thanks for agreeing to an interview with Kultivate Magazine! Tell our readers how you first discovered Second Life. SHEBA: One morning, just over 8 years ago, after being shown Second Life for the first time the evening before, I woke with an excited feeling that I had been introduced to something amazing! I asked my partner to show me once again, this Second Life. I then asked him to order me a PC with a large screen which I barely knew how to use. I read heaps of literature and bought lots of books on SL to learn about it and have been fascinated by it ever since.
take. Then I thought I would like to exhibit, donate and participate in all this myself, so I approached different gallery owners showed them my artworks, which they seemed to like, and I was happily on my way to being part of the virtual art world. KM: Tell our readers about your style of art. SHEBA: The artworks I paint are called Mandalas. Contemporary Mandalas. My mandalas generally are symmetrical, geometrical works with a focus on the center. While the circle is the fundamental attribute of the mandala representing completeness or wholeness the center too is important and that is where I put a powerful or universal symbol, talisman or icon that can be meditated or focused on. I paint them in RL on canvas or paper in mixed media, I use mediums such as gouache, acrylics, metallic paints, oil pastels etc. I use brushes, drafting equipment and drafting pens.
KM: And what made you to create art in Second Life? SHEBA: Well at first I started attending SL art openings and art auctions for good causes like raising money for cancer research, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, and for kids in developing countries etc. Then I started making a concerted effort to begin meeting artists who were doing this work, as this is my area of greatest interest, and being a RL artist it KM: So why mandala art? Do you seemed a natural progression to create this type of art in real life? PAGE 62 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — SEPTEMBER 2016

SHEBA: I find mandalas really very interesting and intricate to paint and the connotations of the mandala being a sacred symbol of the universe and representing the peaceful path in life, interests me greatly, so I like to paint and promote this side of them and
also promote a little peace on planet earth. Yes I am a mandala artist in RL, and bring my paintings into SL. I don't use computers or graphic arts programs to produce my mandalas, I do all my work by hand. I sketch my ideas first in a
sketch pad, and when I'm happy with my design I then transfer it onto canvas or paper and then begin painting it by hand. KM: Can you tell our readers about mandala art? Particularly the origins of mandala art. SHEBA: Mandalas have existed on this planet for thousands of years in their many forms and they have usually been known as mystical symbols of the universe. The enclosing circle of the mandala represents the cosmos and the square or rectangular forms within the circle represent earthbound matter. Carl Jung brought the mandala to the attention of modern western society through his use of the mandala for healing practices, the first of which he painted in 1916. Mandalas can be used for meditation, contemplation, healing or just for pure visual pleasure. The mandala is especially prevalent in Buddhist, Hindu and Tibetan societies and to a lesser degree in Celtic, Islamic and Native North American Indian cultures.
KM: Do you have any current or PAGE 64 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — SEPTEMBER 2016

KM: Katy you have been in Second Life a long time! Tell us what made you first log into Second Life? KATY: After moving back to England in 2009, having lived in Germany for many years, I was stuck in the middle of the countryside trawling the internet for a new job. My partner had already been on SL for some years and he suggested I try out SL to alleviate the boredom between job searches. I logged on and I was immediately hooked. It was a totally foreign experience to me as I really wasn't into computers for leisure activities. (No, really. To me computers were only for work and maybe the odd game of Tetris.) I think I must have spent the first 3 weeks simply trying on clothes in the Ladies' Dressing Room on Newbie Island. KM: And your business was primarily full perm sculpts and now its mostly full perm mesh. What made you decide to go into the full perm business? KATY: I have always been very creative in RL. I have always drawn and painted and have even had a PAGE 162 KULTIVATE MAGAZINE — SEPTEMBER 2016
few exhibitions of my water colors. I also sew and used to design and make some of my own clothes and soft furnishings. And then there's interior design - it's a huge love of mine. My creativity was given a new and very rewarding outlet in Second Life. I loved taking apart modifiable freebie houses I got on SL and then I started examining freebie furniture too. I took the next step and started making prim furniture and building houses. I gave away what I made to friends and they encouraged me, even suggesting I should start selling what I made. I was kindly given a free store in a new mall friends had set up in return for my being the mall manager. It was around this time I became more aware of sculpties and the fact that I would need sculpties to make furniture. So, having absolutely no Lindens to my name, I started looking for where I could obtain free building materials: sculptie maps, textures, animations and scripts. The Midnight Mania for Creators Group, run by Sophie Katsu, was

KM: AIM is comprised of many businesses and brands! Do you mind listing all of your brands and companies for our readers? BONIEFACIO: Hello there, I just want to make it clear to everyone that even though I have a lot of businesses, not all businesses are connected or depending of one of another. Amazing Impressions Modeling that takes care of all the fashion shows. The we have ModeLS magazine, that will try to give people updates about the fashion industry. And no its not only for AIM agency, ModeLS magazine is open to any event, charity event, club, sim, builder, photographer, designer, blogger, game and fashion show out there. Not many people see that ModeLS magazine is an organization on its own. And then I started also Amazing in Motion Productions for all Live broadcast and video needs and once again this company is not connected to AIM Agency. companies? BONIEFACIO: I started with AIM agency back in 2013 after I was a COO of another company that decided one day to kick all of the models out of the group. We had the first edition of Earth hour show coming up so I was like torn between should I do this show or shouldn’t. And then someone whispered in my ears, “why don’t you start an own agency and give all the models a chance to continue under your leadership”. So here we went, I had been organizing already several shows and well this was not a big step then to start my own business. We are growing every day and have great models and a great team. If you like more information you can find us on www.aimagency.net
When I did see that there was a lack of exposure of photographers, bloggers, pose artists, events and so on I started to think like, hey why can’t I create a magazine. KM: Does AIM in exist in any other grids? Do you have plans to expand? BONIEFACIO: So far AIM only exists in Second Life. Who knows where it can go to, only time will tell. With the right resources and people that like to help we can go a long way !
KM: What are some of the hardest aspects of owning a business in Second Life? Any tips do ! for new business owners in Second Life? BONIEFACIO: The hardest aspect is always that others out there not take you serious as a person, as a model. And on top of that, I have to admit, I am flattered to see that some people out there try to do the same idea’s or do the same concepts that we do with AIM. Cause I feel that when people try to copy you or get inspiration of the things you do, you are doing
KM: What can we expect to see from AIM for the remainder of 2016? What about in 2017? BONIEFACIO: Everyone can look at AIM’s calendar on the website www.aimagency.net. We hope that we will get many events to join aim and we are looking forward to another fashion week with Kultivate Magazine and lets not forget all our annual shows that we do ! In 2017 we hope to get more new designers to get into fashion shows and if God will lets us do better every time. KM
