CONNECTING MARCH. 2017
HIGHLIGHTS
Kansas Union Gallery Spring Senior Showcase For the past 5 years, SUA’s Fine Arts Committee has provided an opportunity, though an open call, for senior artists across KU’s campus to showcase their work in the Kansas Union Gallery. These exhibitions provide the unique experience of preparing and hanging a solo exhibition and are immensely popular with KU students, faculty, and staff. Last spring the gallery was visited by more than 4,500 in large part due to the excitement surrounding these senior exhibitions. For senior show and artist information, visit kansasuniongallery.org.
JEN O’CONNOR ELECTED TO ICBA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Jen O’Connor elected to the ICBA Board of Directors Jen O’Connor was recently elected to the Independent College Bookstore Association’s (ICBA) national board of directors. Since its inception in 1927, ICBA continues to be the only professional cooperative dedicated exclusively to institutional stores. After spending 17 years with Target in store operations, Jen made the jump to the College Bookstore industry in August 2014 as the Assistant Director of Operations for the KU Bookstores. Jen was selected through a national search as the new Director of KU Bookstores in May 2015. Under Jen’s leadership the bookstore has implemented student account charging through the bursar, revamped social media and increased student employee involvement through increased leadership and learning outcome opportunities. “Jen O’Connor brings the same strong leadership to the ICBA that has advanced the KU Bookstore. Colleagues have recognized her abilities by placing her on the ICBA Board of Directors. Jen’s presence at this critical industry nexus promises good outcomes for bookstores and, ultimately, students.” David Mucci-Director KU Memorial Union

On April 12 and 13, during the Student Senate elections the student body will vote to undertake a historic revitalization to the Kansas Union. Jayhawks have gathered here since 1926 and annually we have 1.8 visitors to the building. The proposed fee is $50 a semester starting in fall 2019 and will continue the Union’s ability to provide student leadership, activities, retail operations, and connections critical for personal development and growth. Even with the proposed increase of $50, the Union will remain the lowest level of student fee funding in the state. KJHK’s 366
The station’s multimedia recording studio and learning lab – expanded its capabilities this winter with the help of a generous donation through a KU Endowment donor. The philanthropy funded an expansion of the performance and lab space, along with a fully outfitted control room for audio tracking and mixdown. Along with the renovation of the space, the donation allowed for the acquisition of additional computers and audio/visual equipment. The space is now attracting higher-profile acts, such as Split Lip Rayfield, as well as providing an even better experience for KJHK students and guest artists alike. The Live @ KJHK YouTube channel has received over 635,000 views since launching in September 2012 and enjoys over 1,500 subscribers to the channel. KJHK’s in-studio sessions can be viewed at www.youtube.com/KJHKLive.
