The year 2022 becomes a proud year for Kumon Vietnam when we have found the first graduates of the English Program. Let’s listen to the sharing of Nguyen Huynh Gia Bao - one of those outstanding faces - to understand more about the journey to conquer Kumon.

Starting a new journey

When coming to Kumon, Gia Bao is already an 8th grader. Starting with D level, he clearly understands that, with poor pronunciation and unstable grammar, this beginning will help a lot. The first levels are very easy for him, he can easily complete 10 worksheets per day. Unstable knowledge is reviewed, pronunciation is improved and knowledge gaps are gradually filled. After three years of learning at Kumon, in September 2022, Bao became one of the first faces to complete the Kumon English Program.

When the challenge begins, stick to the goal

When asked about the challenges at Kumon, Bao recalled the challenging summer at the end of Grade 9. At that time, he had to concentrate on studying for the entrance exam for Grade 10 and just had to complete Kumon’s homework. There was really a time when he was tired and wanted to stop; but thanks to the encouragement of friends, family, and most of all, he told himself: “When I have tried, I will try harder”, from then on Gia Bao continued his journey to conquer Kumon.

He started to plan carefully, allocating time properly. Kumon’s homework would be completed before school work, weekends would be spent preparing for next week. The Instructors at Kumon also supported him in a timely manner. The exercise was reduced to 5 sheets, whenever he needed help, the

Instructors were there. Thanks to that, his journey at Kumon was not interrupted. All his efforts paid off when Bao was able to enter Grade 10 smoothly and became one of the first faces to complete the English Program. Recalling his feelings when he was announced to have graduated, he smiled proudly and shared, “At that time, I breathed a sigh of relief, all my efforts have been rewarded for so long.”

The secret to success

Kumon English Program is designed with increasing difficulty for each level. To be able to pass the final levels is a process of trying. For Bao, the secret to good study is to persevere in doing homework every day, and not be afraid to practice to master the grammar forms and understand the lesson better. For vocabulary, he chooses to look up the dictionary when he encounters a word he doesn’t understand. And another secret of Bao’s own is trust in the Instructors at Kumon. For him, it is not important to learn English with Vietnamese or native Instructors. He shared: “Every teacher has their own advantages, let’s try to determine what you need and the method is suitable for your goals?” And when asked about advice for fellow students studying at Kumon, Bao sincerely shared: “Always be consistent with your goals, if you are tired or under pressure, you can take a rest for a while and then continue to step forward.”

The journey in Kumon has given Bao a lot of motivation, he is challenging himself with self-study IELTS. Confidently, perseverance and passion will help Bao go further in his education. Kumon will always follow him every step of the way. Be confident, and be the best.
