Personal Statement The start of my journey on urban design is a little bit twisted than most people but never too late. Visual Design, Environmental Design, Economics and Management, are all useful pre-steps for future exploration. My strong interest in urban design comes from my second internship experience. Since China is a huge design lab which is highly market-driven, some artists think that it causes the issues of marketdriven art creation. Such an economic model motivates designers to find new solutions to make their projects more profitable. The large scale, mix-use, connected green open space projects are attracting attention and are expected to moderate the increasing conflict between the environment quality and city development. I am curious about the relationship between people and the built environment, especially in those high-density cities. Urban design may be the new lens I choose for this time. Although people don’t often realize, urban open spaces are usually playing important rolls of telling the unique history of a city. Whether it is a green belt along the river, commercial or industrial districts, or even everyday streetscapes. By proper design, they will keep evolving with the city itself and help to reclaim the urban river for ecological, recreational and economic benefit for the city. To be more specific, I want to explore more about urban agriculture, developing a more bold approach to urban development that celebrates the agricultural, social, and ecological heritage of the city. In recent years, with great policy support, such research and projects are getting funds from government and public attention. I hope to join this effort to look for the indigenous wisdom and their philosophy of symbiosis with nature and bring them back to design a new paradigm of urban living. Huanggang Village is my first experiment. This village is in the rural and undeveloped areas of China. Younger profession loss and industrial pollution are not their headaches because of the poor highway access, but the growing population still puts great pressure on the local ecosystems. As a representative of China's traditional family farming for over 2500 years, this village has a comprehensive understanding of the ecological synergy between various species, which has created a unique agricultural mode l- the rice-fish-duck symbiosis system- a highly efficient way of co-production with biological processes at different stages on the same site. My proposal is about creatively integrated this indigenous agricultural model with pollution control to speed up the degradation of black water while applying the ferment to agricultural production. After the initial bio-retention, the organic part will be efficiently transported into the farmland through a network of channels. The permeable slope help fertilize the existing poor soil and provides essential nutrients for the nationally well-known high-quality rice which only available in this area. What's more, this new ecological production model has public education value and will become a tourist destination, creating further opportunities for economic development and innovation. A verdant, connected, and functional landscape network of agricultural plots and eco-corridors ensure the recharge of the region’s aquifer, while promoting walking and biking within the village. The idea of retaining the logic of internal operation but with creative modern interpretation is significantly important here. The use of native species like Silurus Asotus can also strengthen the ecological and cultural identity. New microclimate are created by implementing planting strategies with waterbodies, which also contribute to reconnecting the existing village fabric of the surrounding area, and supports a more sustainable regional food network. Everyone longs for peace, but not everyone can live in a peace era. What the urban form would be resilient during the war? What infrastructure could be designed to protect the safety of urban residents? In addition to ecological value, landscapes is also about design the interface for humans and space interaction, which requires designers to observe human behaviors and how they interact with real space. It is easy to imagine our daily life, but a great challenge to think about how we act during a war. The second project in my portfolio was focus on such a condition. It is an open space reconstruction project in Syria and the mission is to provide safe shelter for refugees. By discussing the unusual movement behavior mode when people feel stress and unsafe, such as lying flat, kneeling and bending actions to avoid witness and physical harm, we designed the responsive architectural and landscape interface to protect them. The height of the rock wall has been adjusted to umbrella the daily needs of the refugees, including supply trading and religious needs. The design is fully based on accurate prospecting of the surrounding environment and urban fabric, which would allow refugees to evacuate quickly and safely, as the structure is precisely assembled with surrounding safe escape routes. In the coming peace era, we are hoping the project could also function as a memorial landscape, an educational public space, which would bring the visitor back to the war history in slowing down their steps and experience collective contemplation. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to bring my knowledge and insights from the other two profession field to the urban design world. And I am looking forward to doing more than just designing the space. During my first internship, I found that in the Chinese market, the value of many open space projects cannot be revealed and seen by the public and the developer. I started to attend some economy and management courses to expand my toolbox, trying to respond to such complex issues. I will start my own studio as a true first step in my professional career, maybe after several years of experience in design cooperatives. In addition to design, what I want to be engaged more is to design strategies that could improve the economic model of a design project as a consultant. My goal is to revitalize the blocks by integrating mix use and mix income levels to generate economic benefits by the project itself, through deep analysis during the pre-design phase, operation and maintenance, public media and social service, to give the city what it really needs.

Politics—Urban Design Designing how to intervene in political relations in areas with political tensions, bridging public splits, and playing a positive role in restoring public life Since the end of the Syrian civil war in 2016, all parties have entered a truce, and post-war reconstruction is imminent. Here, I would like to discuss how urban design can participate in the political environment and how to ease tensions in public life. This project is the front line of political expression, providing a stage for human right fighters to make their voice and wish for peace heard, anyone who attacks this place will be regarded as a representative of violence intention. ◄◄INTRODUCTION
The project site is located in Huanggang Village, Liping County, Southeast Guizhou Yi Autonomous Prefecture. The village is a traditional minority village located in the interior of China. During the 800-year development of the village, the village has always maintained inheriting the unique national culture and national customs of this ethnic group, even in the turbulent times of historical turmoil, still living an independent life, like the Taohuayuan isolated from Tao Yuanming. But with the development of material and social, some problems that were not taken seriously in the past have gradually become factors that constrain the development of the village.

Natural disaster—Urban Design The great role that design play in combating climate change and natural disasters
With the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, many villages are faced with the secondary disaster like debris flow, threatening the lives of residents. The site lies in the valley and it is surrounded by mountains, facing the threat from the river and slope. Our project is called Midas Touch, because the stone is one of the main part of debris flow, which brings great damage to villages. However, it's a natural material which can be used in many aspects. Such as the stone material, sediment and decoration industry. We expect to use the power of landscape to change disasters into wealth. ABOVE THE CITY 上海奉贤区南桥镇口袋公园景观设计 Landscape design of pocket park in South Town of Shanghai,Fengxian District
Landscape design of pocket park in South Town of Shanghai, Fengxian District Project time: Oct.2017 project type: Competition Nominated: 30/1000
设计说明 DAESIGN SPECIFICATION
Nanqiao town, fengxian district, Shanghai, faces the problems of lack of energy, public facilities and low utilization of public space. Urban pocket park is an important part of urban public space and the direct expression of urban vitality. As the most dynamic and promising life of the city, children are a direct source of urban vitality. This programme aims to stimulate urban vitality by releasing the vitality of children and carrying outvarious activities to influence the city. This gr oup chooses No.15 site as the design site. On the one hand, it is adjacent to the kindergarten, but it is not directly in conflict with the main traffic stream line. The environment is quiet and the site is less affected by the traffic, and the children are protected by the safety of the activities. On the other hand, the site near by the residence community, directly connects with the place where resident lives, has extensive resident foundation and good traffic location condition, residence around here can enjoy the service which the pocket park provide better. "Above the city", as the theme of this plan, with children as the main service object, through the perspective of children's children's needs, make plenty of fun mini space, beautify the environment, activate residents atmosphere, the activation of efficient urban vitality, the construction of new urban vitality portal. To children as a cut, but not in the service of children, resting olds, waiting parents, passing travellers are hidden service objects, our design will not only show the beautiful scenery of the occurrence of the town, but also show vibrant town of occurrence of the cultural relics, point to reach, realize the maximization of the value of the pocket park.
