AKNOWLEDGMENT During studying master degree, it some proofs to me until This thesis on the process. It needs a lot of patience and determination to do the project effectively. Moreover, I cannot complete this project without support from many people. I am very deepest grateful to my advisors Lorenzo Bini who advice me great ways to do this project. He is the one who understands me and gives straightforward advice. So, This project can work in a positive way to success. And another professor is Luca poncellini who gives me a good advice and inspires me to work more effectively. The important of my supporters is my family who financially support. First, my mother Ramloh Keetasopon, my super hero who always calls to cheer me up every day whenever I am worried or happy, she never leave me even we are far away. Big sister Zundear Keetasopon and her four children. They always make me smile, happy all time. Never let me feel pressured and stressed. the next is my second sister Pimwa Benjakhan. She is my main support throughout the course. She guide me whatever that the book never taught me. How to think and practice to succeed in my study. last, my father and brother who guide me what I ignored it or forget to think to be carefully. I thank my friends. My best friend Even though they do not understand what I’m doing my project but they never left me alone, ask and support me encouragement in lovely ways, and the important close friend Nahridzah Mahjubuh Shiber who is my counselor in all matters during study, many problems faced in each day. She is on my side to through out the problems. I would like to thank you my husband Muhamed Fahti InAbdulmabuh Noaman is encouraged. He is a amazing battery that make me not discourage in doing everything to be success. He always cheer me on tired days and help me as much as he cans. And finally a little specail person in my heart. Thanks to my baby is in my womb now that makes me feel not weak and stronger without any action. But he is the only one person that makes me want to have a good future and to be success in life, family and job. Alhamdulillah, Thanks God for bringing me to this point and helps me in every situation. love

ABSTRACT Today, the urban population has a great deal of problems due to the economy, traffic and crime. These problems cause they get accumulate stress which effects in problems between family, friends and society. Especially, Bangkok city (the capital of Thailand). People are living in Bangkok have stress problems. Mainly due to economic, occupation, financial security, traffic and lack of stress treatment. It is not treated properly cause they face stress collectors that affects the body, mind and life. From AU Polls shown Stress statistics Bangkok people that Bangkok people get High stress because of economy 45.81% followed by health 36.34%, envioronment 29.31% and job 27.2%, In addition, Thai people do not have enough rest. It was found that Bangkok people have not enough rest 39.42% because of work, traveling, environment and crime at 40.97%, 39.93%, 7.17% and 4.67% respectively. Most people decide to relax to go shopping in the mall or sleep at home. This is not the good solution to solve the problem. I realized that this problem should solve the correct solution. In order for people in Bangkok to have a better high quality life in every way, they can do the best way for themselve : physical and mind. The solution : build the stress therapy center with water called Thermae Bangkok. Usage of interior architecture to solve problems. As a result, the user experience the improve emotion well and relaxation as well as physical. “Water is the basic nature that every human being in routine. The benefits of water are abundant as well as water can also help to treat human stress. This is the example that people use water for relax the body such as massage or aqua theraphy , the steam bath, the body scrub, Herb drink and the important is the water at each temperature makes a difference affect to the body. Keep the body relaxed. Make the body feel fresh. Research and development center in germany researched that hot and cold water for treatment such as whirlpool, hydrotherapy. so, water can treat the body better or get of sickness. So I see the importance of this project can contribute to Thai people in Bangkok. The interior architecture must be based on case studies about construction, the techniques of renovating system construction ,Interior construction systems, and Interior design for emotional on human. The user can enjoy and solved this problem with the stress therapy center with water.

Analysis of architectural elements such as size, shape, edge, lines, rhythm and voulumn, that all are important in studying and devolopment to design the the volumn of each unit in this project : Thermae Bangkok. The results of the analysis are case study and methodology to create space that affects users the most efficacy. The analysis in this category: dimension of perception analyzes the architectural elements of case studies to know which space affects the user in terms of relaxation and security. The next is the analysis of relationship of perception. It is important because the results of the analysis will determine the program of this project. Analysis of the relationship between human and space and the relationship between human and human in interior space that analyzes issues of activity, number, and relationships. In order to know the requirements and arrangment to scope the program design in each unit.

CONNECTION OF PERCEPTION CIRCULATION IN SPACE AND CORRIDOR

In the interior space...... the sensory perception is invisible and it’s a very important part of to create space for this project because perception of users to space that will have a direct effect on them to reduce stress and relaxation within the atmosphere. Because of many elements, stimuli and neurosis will directly affect the user. In this case study analysis, it is possible to know the issue is possible and good method to create the interior elements. Moreover, the last issue that will be analyzed is the connection of perception, because the circulation is important in connection between space, also inside of space. It is a continuation of the story that user would enjoy it. Ciculation analysis is something that should not be ignored. Whether it is a matter of distance, barrier and safety. The architect’s interview that “Light is the Key. To me "Light" is she. In Architecture, her beauty can only be expressed through exactitude and precision of form and space that we create with an intention to invite her to dance. Her beauty can not be expressed by an unintentional act or a fluke. Yet, her beauty and power remains mysterious, remains unknown as rainbow. “Light” know no past, she is the present-like “Love, Creativity and Freedom” 83

THERMAE : BANGKOK ANALYSIS

From the diagram analysis was found that the design of the bathhouse might meditate all the elements which are extremely important. Whether the architectural elements, the perception of interior space, the layout organization, the relationship between human and space. It also considers the sensory perception of interior space that the more effective as well. These are particularly important in the design of the interior space in the bathhouse. I analized the building of the bathhouse of each culture worldwide including : The Roman bath : Forum Bath in Pompei, Italy The Turish bath: Kalic Ali Pasa Hamam in Istanbul, Turkey The Japanese bath: Kosugi-yu Sento in Suginami, Japan The Russian bath: Sanduny Banya in Moscow, Russia The Swedish bath: Therme Vals in Vals, Switzerland The Thai bath: Barai Spa in Huahin, Thailand Each of bathhouse’s unique design possibilities that time, influenced the construction technology, the cultural location, vernacular architecture as a result, the interior space is completely different In this section, I conclude that the diagram analysis could be useful for example in design of project: Thermae Bangkok. In each section of content

shape

The study found that every shapes and sizes, stability and security. It is extremely important that affected users on their activities in the interior space. The shape should not undermine their safety. The boundary of space efficiency is shown in the rectangle shape. In the meantime they need to relax. So, the shape should be rounded, more or less. By the way, if the shapes has a different of overhead and more clearly. It makes them feel uncomfortable. It should reduce the edge that cuts so as not to destroy their security. In terms of size, there is no fixed limit. It should be designed to suit the program and the number of user.

98

THERMAE : BANGKOK ANALYSIS

volumn

analysis of voulmn is obviously extremely influential to user, in particular because the space is three dimensional perception,it is not just only the plane. From that analysis I found every volumes are strong and stable, but there are differences in terms of density because of the real activites of user certain low-volume and over high-volume,For example if the density of volume is too much, It would result to users feel not uncomfortable and not relax much. Moreover if there is the voulmn with certain space and dimension such as the volume of the caldarium in Forum baths or the volume of sicaklik in Kalik Ali Pasa Hamam. they make bather safe and relaxing well. The distribution of volume, it is interesting and can be deployed in a design.

rhythm

In addition to the architectural elements. The egde and rhythm that appear in interior architecture result in a change in perception dimensions because the rhythm can increase and decrease perception of positive space. For example, the vertical lines give a sense of height, elegance, stability, strength, a symbol of integrity. But in interior space where has much of density of vertical lines. It will result in the necessary areas not relaxed. On the other hand, horizontal lines give Horizontal lines gives the impression of a smooth, wide, peaceful, relaxing, there are much horizontal lines, it will will result in not feeling safeand lack confidence. In interior design should meditate the balance of the edge, lines, the rhythm of the line or shapes that appear in space. The analysis found that rhythms that make you feel relaxed and secure. The best solution is the rhythm regular But not too dense and not in proportion to the monotonous moreover, It should be somewhat empty to feel more relaxed. Meanwhile The non-appearance of edge and rhythm, making it lifeless space, movement and the interior architecture is completely lack of charm

THERMAE : BANGKOK ANALYSIS

The analysis of human sensory perception of the interior space is very good. I could know how the design techniques that affect on human’s feeling in term of a relaxation and security. Architectural aesthetics can also be recognized. All interior space had design methodology cause me to understand clearly. Sensory Perception

sensorial perception

103

THERMAE : BANGKOK ANALYSIS

Sensorial perception is an analysis of the perception of open or closed space and the boundary of space. Of course, the interior space is closed space. By the way, the intensity is high depend on the surfaces and windows.

104

sensory perception

tactile

hearing

offactory

Otherwise, the interesting issue is boundary of space because human can percept the atmosphere of space that limited or freedom. If it is limited makes user feels compressed and not relaxed as it should. but there is solution to decrease space more freedom to design some surface not hardness. In spite of that, the space is not very independent. In conclusion, Hearing and offactory perception are effect user in term of relaxation such as the sound of water, aroma of flowers or essential oils. The tactile perception is choices materials because in the bathhouse, All parts of the body will touch the surface of material. So, Should be thoughtful to choose materials that create a new feeling and experience for user.

THERMAE : BANGKOK ANALYSIS

sight

sensory perception

In sight perception, I analyze in terms of light, which is very influenced by the architecture. Because most of bathhouse gets the natural light more than the artificial light. I think the natural light can effects well in terms of human relaxation. Moreover, the brightness of light depends on the activities of that space such as the steam room, It used dim light and not very bright and much contrast. On the other hand, natural light might be at the right time during the day because some time of day create a relaxing atmosphere for the user. Besides, the light should not through directly to the user. The window should be at the top of plane or the ceiling. It should not be in the same level of sight. The light on floor should not high density would create the space for aesthetics.

The functions are divided into 6 main groups, which are divided according to the program of this project. Each of the main functions are sub-functions. They are like small units which spread over the space. In the relationship of function, it will be the connection between these subunits together in any way. These subunits have different shapes, volumn, size and windows. It will be experiment in the next step. There are 6 main functions: YOGA FUNCTION MASSAGE FUNCTION SHOWER STEAM FUNCTION BATHS FUNCTION GENERAL FUNCTION

function relationship

The changing room is the main function to distribute user to others function Garden is the center to connect functions that need nature.

Because of the water system in building, should keep them nearby to easy for water circulation and repairment in future.

The function relationship, I consider the appropriateness of the system: water, heating, and electric is the first priority, the next is to manage circulation of users of this project and the last is the relationship and needs between functions.

This building is on Thanon Ratchadamnoen Klang where the main road in center of Bangkok city. Most of the time, there are many car always drive pass this building cause the sound problem to this but there many tree in front of the building and long distance betwwen building and road. So, I decrease the sound into interior of space. The blue is the main entrance and the western of building get sunlight in afternoon time, so the windows and door should less number. and wind flow through in the building from shouthern direction.

In the design, the feeling that user could percept when they are walking between functions, how to manage the natural light into each unit. and the last one the bring the concept into interior space followed functions. The important points should consider: o THE SIZE o THE VOLUMN o THE NATURAL AND ARTIFICAL LIGHT o THE MANAGE INDOOR GARDEN o THE SYSTEM OF BUILDING

The combination of Thai elements and the materialism From an analysis of bathhouse, it was found that the textures, egdes, and lines of the material are of the great importance to human perception. In this design, I would like to choose materials abandoned its color So human can recognize the tactile and beauty of materialism. Thai elements is hidden in architectural elements and interior decoration. Patterns are reduced to not be discomfort and disturbance to people’s feelings..

This part shows the materials and shape of each unit in project. Because after analysis interior space in bathhouse around world, I found the important design is the human perception about volumn, lines, materials and light. All should be consider in same time. Following the concept I would like to skip the colorful of material to see the beauty and shade affect from light that show on materlism. The puspose of thermae Bangkok is how the architecture and interior can decrease the stress while increase the relaxation to customers.

Thermae Bangkok : the stress therapy center with water is designed to treat stress by using water treatments. There are programs for customers who need treatment, relaxation and beauty. For example, pool bath, steam bath, massage, or even yoga. To reduce the stress they face throughout all day. Because most of Bangkok people want to relax but they solve in wrong solution , that why. I have designed an interior architecture that can meet the needs of function and the human perception, How to design space to make them more relaxed. Because the architectural element influences the human perception very much. The surface or texture of the material and light are the main variables that make the perception of space change. I have studied and analyzed from the bathhouse in various cultures around the world, it known that interior space is an important role in make relaxation feeling and safe. It’s not just high quality service. And I hope so. The architectural design in this project can be useful and solve the problem of people who are stressed out. Moreover, the more important point is to work with the existing construction of the this building, which I must understand the weakness and strength of the building. How to work with and the knowledge about systems used to build the bathhouse.
