Minimum space and maximum comfort. GROHE POPUP turns this contradiction into a clever bathroom concept while reacting to the needs of a growing population. Inspired by Chinese culture this foldable bath provides hygiene, wellness and extra space on demand. student team project . 4th term + Clara Fessler, Marian Massegg 4 months . mar 2014 – jun 2014 in cooperation with

Chun Li, 26, single Moved from the country to Chengdu. Works as an administrative staff member and has a monthly income of 4000 짜. Believes that with hard work she can support herself and her family. Wants to settle down in Chengdu and get married soon. Saves half of her income for an apartment of her own.
Cultural heritage and tradition have always been of high significance in Chinese society. Very important to keep in mind when designing for this target group!
Paper and the art of paperfolding originated in China. In order to achieve similar aesthetics and functionality we chose the paper-like polyethylene fibre Tyvek as the main material.
After an extensive research phase we tested dimensions and ergonomics. For a better understandig of various mechanisms we created simple prototypes.
Once we set the basic options and possibilities, we started visualising the ideas to find a fitting formal language and to generate an overall picture of our concept.
By pulling the lamp’s cord the luminance can be dimmed to a faint mood lighting. The energy saving mode reminds you of the time spent under the shower by transitioning from red to blue light.
The foldable bathtub appears and disappears on demand. Light, soft materials (cork shrink-wrapped in Tyvek) and the angled back rest guarantee optimal ergonomics.
Inspired by traditional fans this adaptable and flexible shelf provides a space saving storage solution. It also doubles as a towel holder when its Tyvek cover is removed.
Saving space and resources: a tap, a showerhead and a rainshower combined in one product. The easy height adjustment and a fan-like setup enable it. The bamboo-inspired shower faucet features an intuitive handling. Sliding the control ring up and down regulates the temperature, turning it controls the water volume.
Similarly to the bath tub, the sink can be folded when you are in need of some additional space.
The paravent works as a room divider and a shower screen. The integrated LED strips turn it into a luminous element, creating a light and shadow play just as in a thick bamboo forest on a sunny day.
These 6 individual products constitute an interdependent system. This makes it possible to turn a 1,5m2 room into a fully functional yet adaptable bathroom.

We made a short animation movie for the final presentation. By embedding our concept into this little story we managed to get our audience emotionally involved!

hot glue guns are among the most used tools, yet they are often of poor quality and unhandy
a hot glue gun should: + rest securely + work efficiently + no glue dripping
+ easy to use + help you to realise your projects
an improved hot gluing device for precision work and surface application
The corded glue pen works similarly to a conventional hot glue gun. When inserted into the bigger part and set to “surface mode, the glue is pushed onto the now heated roller and can be spread fast and evenly on a surface.

The drawn and animated short film illustrates one of Illuminata’s songs from their upcoming album and will be featured during live performances and on their official YouTube channel. freelance project ongoing . since jul 2014 commissioned by
