Alain PIERRE has always liked acoustic guitars, especially nylon strings, but also the twelve-string guitar (aka ‘folk’ guitar). In his personal approach of jazz, he uses classical guitar techniques on the twelve steel strings, which is definitely one of the key features of his style. No wonder that Alain is particularly fond of the luxuriant acoustic jazz of the 70’s, best represented, among others, by the ECM label. His compositions and playing arise from these influences. Leading his own projects allows him to present his compositions. He founded his own label Spinach Pie Records.

The most unreliable music since 1999
The band led by composer /clarinettist Peter Vermeersch is and remains Belgium’s most original and most daring ‘big band’. Not in the traditional sense of the word, but simply because it consists of fourteen musicians. The influences are manifold in their far from traditional ‘big band’ music. Although the word ‘eclectic’ gives them the creeps, it is difficult to describe this exuberant music any other way.
Fred Wilbo (Fred Wilbaux) has played with a lot of bands for the last 30 years. He is appreciated and recognized as a specialist of solo piano performances. In 2015, he founded a new trio with Jef Scheepers on double bass and Tom De Wulf on drums. He has recorded 3 CDs to his name and several others as a sideman.

Released in 2015, Simplexity - Joachim Caffonnette’s debut album - is the result of both a 5-year long complicity on stage and the freeze frame on an creative process in constant evolution. Caffonnette manages to make complex harmonies sound perfectly natural, with the support of a very dynamic rhythm section, powerful melodies and well-shaped solos. His pieces reveal a deep knowledge of jazz standards and early 1900’s classical music. His work reminds one of an architect’s plans, sometimes complex but nevertheless leading to a crystal-clear result.
Is it Afro funk, psychedelic Ethiopian impro, ethno jazz or trance music? Does it matter? Brussels-based YOKAI plays its own version of music from the global underground, bringing dancing grooves and cosmic vibes to their audiences.

Margaux Vranken is a pianist, a composer and a singer.With a mixed and complete musical training (classical and jazz), Margaux is carrying out several ongoing projects. She released an EP in November 2015 with her project PINTO, which is touring in Germany in May 2016. She is currently playing with a new acoustic trio (piano/ vocals, bass, drums) and will record an album in November 2016.
LABtrio are three musicians with strong personalities, endowed with a refreshing and adventurous approach to music. The trio’s acoustic universe conceals an urban jazz that flirts with electronic, underground and hip-hop cultures.The trio has a rich repertoire at its hands, mainly consisting of own compositions striding to surprise the audience.

Founded in 2004 by Michel Van Achter, HOMERECORDS.BE is an independent record label that produces original, innovative and contemporary music ranging between different influences and styles, from traditional, world and classical to jazz and folk. All its projects are dedicated to original songwriting and individual approaches with both an excellence of its sound recordings and the great quality of its artists.
W.E.R.F. began an adventure in the year 1993 that – against all initial expectations – until today plays an essential role in Belgian jazz history. Over the past two decades it offered opportunities to Belgian jazz talent. Several very young jazz musicians have thus become established names in the jazz landscape. A glance at the almost endless list of musicians who already appeared on the label reads like an encyclopaedic overview of Belgian jazz between 1993-2016. A scene filled with creative ingenuity and guts, experiment and foundation.
Located in Liège Belgium, homerecords.be provides for the artists all the essential tools (recording studio, sleeping facilities, publishing and promotion office) to succeed in the creative and business aspects of the music industry. Since 12 years 150 albums were released on homerecords.be

Festival International Jazz à Verviers
In 2017 ‘Leuven Jazz’ celebrates the 5th edition of its annual festival. What makes ‘Leuven Jazz’ such a success: plenty of international stars, a healthy dose of local talent as well as a wide range of jazz-related activities (from jazz movies and expos to jazz literature).This ensures that the festival is accessible to a wide audience, from experienced jazz aficionados to curious newcomers.
The international festival Jazz in Verviers aims at promoting jazz as a diverse musical style that can appeal to a large and diverse public of connoisseurs and curious people. The organisation is run by a volunteer team of five jazz fans which scheduled more than 80 high-quality concerts in 10 years’ time.

Handelsbeurs is an exciting concert venue presenting and commissioning a broad range of music going from classical, contemporary music to jazz, indie rock and pop plus some world music. It organises the Istanbul Ekspres festival - a festival focusing on the Istanbul music scene taking place every year in May. Handelsbeurs is housed in an old building and has a beautiful hall with a capacity of 380 seats or 750 standing places and a nice foyer.
Gent Jazz Festival (July in Ghent) and Jazz Middelheim (August in Antwerp) are Jazz & Muziek’s two main summer festivals. In addition, it organises a limited club series in Ghent throughout the year.

Let’s Art In the Théâtre Molière in Brussels. Throughout the season, they organise concerts in Sart-Risbart in different venues and in Le Rideau Rouge.be, a cosy club in Lasne, a village some 30 kilometer south of Brussels.

Vrijstaat O. // De Werf (Ostend // Bruges) Vrijstaat O. is an arts centre with residence in Ostend (Belgian Coast, 30 km from Bruges). It presents jazz concerts in a club with seaside view & every two years (next edition November 2017) it organises organise the festival STORM! DE WERF is an arts centre, located in Bruges. It organises concerts, a biennial festival, Jazz Brugge.The centre has its own record label. De Werf exists since more than 20 years.

JAZZ.Brussels By stimulating the joined synergy and mutual cooperation between the key actors of the Brussels jazz scene, the aim of JAZZ.brussels is to support, encourage and shine the spotlight on the capital’s jazz happenings.To that end, the JAZZ.brussels develops various communication tools and activities.The ultimate goal is to contribute, in conjunction with the Brussels-Capital Region, to the promotion of Brussels and of its jazz scene both within and beyond its borders.

JazzLab Series is a network that promotes the Belgian jazz scene by organising concert tours with the aid of 20+ partners in the country (concert halls, clubs, cultural centres,…). Every month JazzLab offers tours throughout the country and abroad. Since 2012 it is the project coordinator of Criss Cross Europe, a collaborative network organising tours for young jazz musicians from seven participating European countries. JazzLab also organises events for the exchange of expertise and networking (Jazz Forum) and co-organises The Belgian Jazz Meeting, a weekend of showcases for an international public of programmers.
Muziekmozaïek vzw supports and inspires folk and jazz musicians in Flanders, Belgium and abroad. Musicians, venues and fans can contact the organisation for all kinds of advice. Muziekmozaïek organises various events & activities.To name but a few: international contests (BE-Jazz), academies, publications, a magazine (Jazzmozaïek), workshops, lectures and so on.

Flanders Arts Institute is a non-profit organization for the support of visual arts, music and performing arts in Flanders. FAI does research, supports practices of artists and organizations, collects and distributes information and expertise on and for the arts in Flanders, supports policy-making and facilitates long-term international relations and exchange.
Wallonie-Bruxelles Musiques (W.B.M.) was created in 1984 to help artists, producers and publishers from the French-speaking community of Wallonia and Brussels to make their mark in the musical cultural industry; in all kinds of music.
Activities in the field of jazz are: to coordinate the Belgian presence at Jazzahead, to invite music industry professionals at major events (e.g. Gent Jazz, Jazz Brugge, ...), to coordinate the Belgian Jazz Meeting (showcasefestival) and the Belgian Jazz#Forum (conference, network), to develop a Belgian Jazz Directory and database. FAI is a board member of the Europe Jazz Network.

The agency is co-managed by Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) and the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. Since then, it has developed its work around different axes : • Supporting their presence in music markets, both for recorded sound and the performing arts.These include events such as: CLASSICAL:NEXT, WOMEX, BABEL MED, JAZZAHEAD ... • Supporting the presence of artists in the major festivals and international showcase events that can lead to major breakthroughs. • Developping two programmes to support professionals from Wallonia & Brussels: aid in promoting albums released in markets outside Belgium and tour support for artists when a record is released or for showcases intended for professionals; • welcoming foreign professionals at major music events in Wallonia and Brussels • Organising promotional operations around specific sectors of musical activity. • Creating international promotional tools • Developping an information policy: web site (www.wbm.be), newsletters, … • Participating in international networks : EJN (European Jazz Network), ETEP (European Talent Exchange Program) + Re :New/New :Aud
