ABOUT ME
My name is Kevin Fabián Velandia Farfán; A Colombian citizen currently living and studying in Brisbane. I am an Architect graduated from the “Universidad Piloto de Colombia” in 2014. I am a person who is pasionate about design, arts and photography, reason why I also undertook a Diploma in Photography from the “Escuela de Cine y Fotografía Zona Cinco” in Colombia; and a seminar of Interior Design delivered by the “Universidad Pontificia Javeriana de Colombia”. After my graduation as an Architect I have been involved in a important number of projects of architecture and interior design in different cities in Colombia, mainly in the Capital, Bogotá. As an additional rol in my work, I had to supervise and project manage the construction site of different projects, from Interior design projects to Construction of new buildings. In 2017 I decided to travel to Australia to improve my competencies in the English language, and to acquire additional perspectives of how architecture and interior design is developed and practised in this part of the world. The next phase of my journey is to focus on Interior Architecture, design and decoration, which is the branch of architecture that I like the most.

ISOMETRIC - FINAL DESIGN
This bespoke design integrates the clean lines of the contemporary design with the style and materiality characteristic of the Mid-century Modern design, into one. This bookcase was conceived with the intention of being a piece of art that can be placed in the middle of the space without being invasive. For the design of this bookcase, thorough research was undertaken regarding the materials, sizes, methods of protection for rare books and how to keep them safe from the surrounding environment and direct light. With this unique piece, we wanted to translate Michael’s personality into a sophisticated, elegant and bold piece of furniture.

The three above shown sketches were designed based on the client brief and the concept generator. Each of the designs depicts in a different way the interpretation of the clear and contemporary lines and the organic curves that our client likes.

The colour palette was created based on the concept generator that was selected by the client during the client meeting.
DESIGN PROCESS
Once the best option was selected, the following step was to re-draw the option with more detail, based on the original sketch. Once the final drawing was made, it was possible to play around with the colour of the design, in order to make it more harmonious with the rest of the design and to make it match with the Concept generator.

ACCENT COLOUR OPTIONS Once again the concept generator is a key part of the colour selection; in this case, we are going to select the accent colour which will be extracted from one of the images. The idea is that the accent colour integrates the totality of the colours in a harmonious way, creating a symbiotic interaction among colours.

URBAN BIOPHILIA
The University of Canberra (UC) is a young and innovative institution that was created as a new way for the students of the future to acquire formal knowledge from a different perspective, breaking boundaries, and encouraging them to have a curious mentallity and desire for always thinking outside the box. The UC wants to expand their reach to a national basis, and part of this big process is to formalise its position in the massive and exuberant region of Queensland, where the university has currently some presence in partnership with other high profile institutions; but the UC mentality is bold, and that's why it wants to consolidate their presence creating their first own installation in the Capital of the region, Brisbane. Inspired by the young and innovative and sustainable emphasis that rule the University, we want to create in the new Student Hub of the Faculty of Arts and Design, a bold and creative design that breaks boundaries, integrates the natural elements into space, and that works as a catalytic element that invites the users to be more in contact with their natural surroundings. Based on that, we found inspiration in the Biophilia hypothesis, which is the idea that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life; and in this design, we want to integrate the outdoors into the indoors to create a strong link between the final users, the interior design, and nature. This design features a series of organic shapes and curved circulations that invite the users the walk along with space, discovering the hidden details and exploring the textures, colours and inner spaces that configure the space, and discovering the beauty of the inner "urban jungle"; The colour palette is based on the blue tones of the UC and the red and Cyan of the Faculty of Arts, which mix together to create a vibrant and dynamic contrast.
