Height: 6-15 ft Weight: 150-580 lbs Temperament: Vile, Ravenous, Ruthless Background: Facts about wendigos vary

wildly since very few have seen one and survived. Not only are wendigos exceptionally malicious creatures, but they are always hungry, and have developed quite a taste for humans. And what they lack in intelligence they more than make up for in brute strength, the largest being strong enough to knock over trees and bash through walls and doorways. Thankfully the wendigo only lives in very remote, unpopulated areas, so surprise encounters with them are very rare. Reports have typically come from areas in Canada that receive year-round snow, and most reports have come from the coastal forests of British Columbia. A few have been spotted as far north as Juneau, Alaska. It is recommended that only experienced trackers with proper protection attempt to find a wendigo.

Height: 6.5-10 ft Weight: 400-1000 lbs Temperament: Peaceful, friendly, shy Background: More commonly known by

the name ‘Bigfoot,’ the sasquatch is one of the most well known cryptids in North America. Its shaggy, huggable exterior and quiet demeanor have made it a popular character in the media. Multiple films, television shows, and documentaries have featured the legendary creature. Its appearance, which is that of a gorilla crossbred with a teddy bear, makes it a favorite of children as well. Although a relatively large animal, the sasquatch is an expert at remaining unseen.Your best chance at finding one is to set up camp in a densely forested, uninhabited region in the north western United States. Spend as much time out in the open as possible, and make slow, quiet movements. If any sasquatch are present, their curiousity will get the best of them, and they will make their presence known.

Height: 1-2ft Weight: up to 150lbs Temperament: Intelligent, mischievous Background: The jackalope has been

tracked around the world, from the antlered version in the midwestern United States to the single horned version seen in Asia. Most people have found them facinating because they’re adorable and compact, and the potential of turning them into household pets has high appeal. What people usually don’t realize is that jackalopes are actually jerks. Jackalopes are exceptional mimics, and have a fondness for human food and whiskey. They have been known to mimic speech to lure unwary travelers away in order to raid their camps, and if corned, the jackalopes can viciously attack. It is recommended that only the most steadfast enthusiast should seek out these unpredictable creatures, and if you encounter one you should remain at a distance of at least 20 feet.

the voice of the forest

Height: 3.5-5 ft (at the shoulder) Weight: 250-800 lbs Temperament: Gruff, Offstandish, Loud Background: Little is known about the

Ozark Howler, as very few have ever been seen. They have been described as looking like a cross between a bear and a large cat, with huge, promient horns and shaggy fur. They have a distinct, bellowing roar similar to an eagle or an elk’s bugle. For all their size and ferocity they are all show, and there has never been an attack on humans reported.

Ozark Howlers have been spotted in various dense forests in the United States, including Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma. To have the best chance of finding one, set up camp in a remote, heavily treed area in the fall. Check nearby trunks for large gouge marks around 4-5ft high, which are the hallmarks of the howler’s horns. And keep a keen ear out for their distinctive cry, which should help lead you to the location of their den.

Guardian spirit of the north

Height: 18-20 ft Weight: 2850-4000 lbs Temperament: Strong, reserved, aloof Background: According to Inuit folklore,

the legendary amarok is a giant white wolf that roams the North American tundra. Honored as a protective spirit by various tribes, the amarok is seen as a guardian of children. Various tales exist that also describe the enormous beast as devouring unwary hunters that were foolish enough to go out alone at night. This strange duality in personality has often been debated. The amarok is notoriously secretive, and is rarely seen by those who seek it. It has been said that one will only show itself to those in need, and will otherwise choose to remain hidden in the snow drifts, perfectly camoflauged by its pure white coat. If you wish to track one, your best option is to befriend a small indigenous tribe and stay in their village for several weeks. The dedicated enthusiast may just be rewarded by a clandestine visit from the mysterious cryptid.
