Year by year I began to understand what was happening, why and how everything worked together to create such wonderful sounds. I made friends, some of whom I am still very close with. Each season brought with it new and interesting experiences with various works. I remember bragging to some of my friends at school about my first experience with a symphony. “It’s 10 pages long!” I would tell them, knowing little that in the future, I would be playing pieces like Stravinsky’s Firebird and Mozart’s Requiem. — Victoria Melik, violin

I believe that my experience with the KWSYO has, through the exceptional tutelage of the conductors and teachers, contributed to my success in being a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada the last two years. Thank you KWSYO! — Thomas Beard, cello My years of playing in the Youth Orchestra have been filled with wonderful memories and musical highlights. Playing in the side-by-side concerts with the KW Symphony were memorable learning opportunities, and they were lots of fun. No amount of practise or lesson time could offer the same benefits of playing beside a professional orchestral musician, with a conductor like Edwin Outwater. — Ella Weber, violin
