PROJECT: WORKSHOP

ARCHITECTURE


The site is located at Byumba in Northern province,outside the town of byumba.The site is on terraced hill with a view in North over the valley, forest in east which is part of the project site. Design requirements are carpentry workshop with space large enough or 4carpenters at time, Welding workshop with space enough for 2 welders at time, Metal working workshop with space for 4 metal workers to fabricate, assemble and repairs objects, artist studio with space for at least 3 artists to work on painting, sculpture or any other discipline,gallery of 30m2 minimum and toilets

CONCEPT AND DESIGN STRATEGIES The concept is connecting a building to forest to form a courtyard and to allow view over the valley(in North) for people in courtyard ( p u b l i c s p a c e )

The courtyard is used as public space with circulation, landscape small can teen where people can sit enjoying view of the landscape. The upper part of build ing is stepping to maximize view of landscape. Apart from landscape the rest of the courtyard is paved by stones which

The upper part has opened stairs so that there light from them in workshops.

The ground floor is formed by a courtyard with differ ent activities,workshops (welding, carpentry and metal working workshop) and toilets within courtyard

The upper part (Exhibition) is built by bamboo with transi tion forom closed to opened as you move the North(view over valley) and view in the courtyaincrease as as openings increase. The upper part is supported by many columns to interpret the connection to the forest (transition).

The upper part of builing is stepping, wall of bamboo that slide so that the entranis created according to the user.Circulation in the courtyard that connect the upper part to the ground floor.
