The big day is almost here. In just a few short days, students will be hitting a major milestone. Graduation. Whether you’ll be walking across the stage and receiving your diploma on Saturday or will just be attending the picnics and parties afterward, you’re going to need something to wear. The question is, what is appropriate attire for graduation? You’re going to want to wear something that can be taken from the graduation ceremony to the after party/after picnic/lunch/dinner/where ever you’ll be headed to celebrate the big day. My suggestion: A sundress. You can’t go wrong with a classic, yet stylish sundress. Luckily, sundresses are filling the racks in every store so they won’t be hard to find. All that you need to do is decide on a style that you like and will be willing to wear all day. Remember that graduation is a time for friends, family, reminiscing on the good times and of course, looking good in the millions of pictures you know will be taken throughout the entire day—both at the ceremony and at the after-events. With that being said, you’ll want to dress to impress both your parents and your peers—so conservative, yet stylish. Here are some examples that will look great on anyone for the big day.

FOOT NOTE
When it comes to shoes for graduation, you have a few things to think about. If you’re the one graduating, remember that you’ll be walking across a stage to receive your diploma. Make sure you wear a shoe that you’re comfortable walking in. Regardless of if you decide to wear stilettos, wedges or flats, make sure your shoes are semidressy. You don’t want to be too casual as
graduation is slightly formal. You’re going through a right of passage so make sure you dress the part. Also, if you’re going somewhere after graduation, think about the environment that you’ll be in. If it’s a backyard picnic, stilettos may not be a good idea in the grass. So if you need to, bring an extra pair of flats with you in your purse or simply change before you go to the after party

Songs help set the mood for upcoming holiday
A
song has the power to take a listener down memory lane and revisit the past. There seems to be a song associated with almost every mood, memory and season. Summertime is quickly approaching and school will be out for the summer allowing students to take part in the summertime rituals we all know and love. Many people can think of a song that takes them back to a specific summer. Artists have been able to compose songs that illustrate the sizzling season. So, what makes a song a summer anthem? A summer anthem needs to capture the essence of summer. Summertime brings freedom, relaxation and fun to the forefront of everyone’s mind. Activities including friends, family, water and the outdoors fill everyone’s agenda. The song needs to be upbeat to capture the desire to have fun and enjoy one’s self. Songs of summer need to be simple to illustrate the freedom and easy-going state of mind. The messages of summertime anthems can vary. It can be about the season itself
such as “Summertime,” by Kenny Chesney. It can be a personal story about one’s summer activities like Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long.” It could also tell a story about summer lovin’ like “Summer Nights,” from the hit movie, Grease. There are a few artists who are well known for their summer tunes. The Beach Boys, whose name really says it all, is well known for their love of sunshine, surfing and the summer atmosphere. Songs like “California Girls,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “I Get Around,” fall under their “sunshine pop” genre of music and frequent the charts of the all time greatest summertime music. Jimmy Buffett is an artist who believes in taking full advantage of summer and warm weather everywhere, regardless of the season. His music is all about the relaxation and recreation of summer. Songs like “Margaritaville,” and “Cheeseburger In Paradise” are evidence of the island escapism sound he creates that screams summertime. Kenny Chesney is a country artist that
cranks out the summer jams every summer. “Summertime,” “Anything but Mine” and “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems,” have all spent their time on top of the charts during the summer months. Chesney, like Buffett, expresses the carefree, easygoing attitude and state of mind of summer. There are new summer anthems every year. Some of my favorites starting with the oldest includes, “MmmBop” by Hanson, “Summer Girls,” by LFO, Kenny Chesney’s “Summertime,” “All Summer Long,” by Kid Rock and “A Pocket Full Of Sunshine, by Natasha Bedingfield. When a song consists of the aforementioned components and is deemed a summer anthem, listeners everywhere will hear the beats of summer wafting out of car windows and into the warm summer air. Who knows what summer anthems the Summer of 2010 has in store for us, but I think Brad Paisley has kicked the warm season off with his new hit, “Water.” We’ll have to wait and see who joins him in the Top 10 of 2010.
